June 6, 2019 - Farmers, ranchers and timber growers, have you filed a productivity appraisal with the Shelby County Appraisal District office? Under Texas law, agricultural producers are allowed to pay property taxes based on the productivity value of their land rather than on the market value. May 22, 2019 - Property owners who disagree with the Shelby County Appraisal District’s appraisal of their property for local taxes or for any other action that adversely affects them may protest their property value to the appraisal district’s Appraisal Review Board (ARB).
A property owner must file a written notice of protest before Jun 13th or within 30 days after the appraisal district mails the taxpayer a notice of appraised value, whichever is later. The ARB will begin hearing taxpayer protests on July 10th.

April 2, 2019 - If you own tangible personal property that is used to produce income, then a rendition must be filed with the Shelby County Appraisal District by April 15th. Property owners who need more time to file their renditions may file a written request with the chief appraiser on or before April 15th to receive an automatic extension to May 15th or the next business day. The chief appraiser may also grant an additional 15 days after the postponed deadline, if necessary.
