Mirabeau B Lamar Day, Father of Texas Education

January 25, 2024 - Tomorrow, January 26th is the first Texas Honor Day of the new calendar year and it honors Mirabeau B. Lamar who is recognized as the “Father of Texas Education.” On this date in 1839 the legislature of the Republic of Texas passed a law which set aside land of public schools and two universities. It was decades later that the public schools were established, but Lamar’s advocacy of the program earned him this recognition. A statement from one of his speeches to Congress, “a cultivated mind is the guardian genius of democracy” was used by Dr.

DRT’s William Carroll Crawford Chapter to Meet April 14th

April 9, 2018 - The William Carroll Crawford Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas will meet Saturday, April 14, at the Sam Samford Lodge in Center. Hostesses are Elizabeth Pate, Deidre Hughes, Sheri Hribal and Sarah Waller, all descendants of Elisha Berryman Adams and Nancy Collins. We will have a new member ceremony welcoming our newest members Laura Whiddon Shortell, JJ Ford, and Victoria Allen. Plans and needs for the 2018 DRT Convention in Addison in May will be shared. October DRT Meeting to Include New Member Installation, Christmas Market Update

October 9, 2017 - The William Carroll Crawford Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas will meet Saturday, October 14, at  10:00am at the Sam Samford Lodge in Center. The program will be a new member installation ceremony and the introduction of prospective members to the Chapter. The upcoming Pinecone and Mistletoe Christmas Market, to be held at the Windham Civic Center on November 3 - 4, will be the focus of the business portion of the meeting.

September DRT Honor Days

September 18, 2017 - September 18 is one of two days in September the Daughters of the Republic of Texas specify as Honor Days. This day is known as Texas Heroes Day. On this day the memory or the volunteer soldiers who died defending the Republic of Texas and establishing her independence are remembered. Join with the organization in honoring this group, as well as all the men and women of the military, both past and present.

Daughters of The Republic of Texas William Carrol Crawford Chapter April Meeting

March 28, 2017 - The April meeting of the William Carroll Crawford Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas has been changed to Saturday, April 1 (this Saturday) at 10AM at the Sam Samford Lodge in Center, The change was voted on at the March meeting, due to a conflict. We will elect and install Chapter Officers for the 2017-2019 term and make plans for the upcoming DRT Convention in Dallas.

August 24, 2015 - A Texas Patriot…someone who came to Texas or to the Republic of Texas before February 19, 1846. Is there one in your family tree? Get to know your Texas ancestors. This Friday, August 28, members of the William Carroll Crawford Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas will be at the First Ladies in Texas Building on the Courthouse square in Center from 1:00 to 4:00 to offer free research assistance in your quest for answers.
