November 16, 2020 - Grace and peace from our brother Jesus, Amen. Sunday was the 32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time. Next Sunday is the last Sunday on the Christian calendar: Christ the King Sunday. To refer to someone in olden times as a king was to show honor and respect. We Americans fought a war for independence from a king, so we see honor and respect in people governing themselves. If it were up to me I would call Sunday Christ Our Savior and Friend Sunday, but that’s just me.

November 9, 2020 - Grace and peace from our brother Jesus, Amen. Sunday we celebrated Veterans Day a little early. We are so thankful for all those men and women who answered the call and put themselves in harm’s way. Wednesday, November 11th is Veterans Day, but we wanted to honor all those who served in our congregation and around the world.

November 2, 2020 - Grace and peace from our brother Jesus, Amen. Sunday was All Saints Day. This important and vital Sunday is the day Christians remember all those souls in the local church who died this past year, and all those who helped the church and us as individuals grow to become what we are. It is a day to remember the past, rejoice in the present, and anticipate the future.

October 26, 2020 - Grace and peace from our brother Jesus, Amen. Sunday was the 29th Sunday in Ordinary Time. We had a good rain in Joaquin Friday, and Saturday morning was nice and cool. My two dog companions, Gunter and Sam, along with our grand-dog Stella, went to the park with me Saturday morning. They had such a good time running and chasing each other. The cool morning air also put an extra step into my walking.

October 18, 2020 - Grace and peace from our brother Jesus, Amen. Sunday was the 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time. We had some beautiful fall days this past week! I am starting my article on Saturday, when it is 45 degrees at morning dog-walking time. The house felt cold to me when I got up, but I am not ready to turn the heater on. I bundled up for the walk, and the dogs really seemed to have fun running and chasing each other at the park.

October 12, 2020 - Grace and peace from our brother Jesus, Amen. Sunday was the 27th Sunday in Ordinary Time. Sunday morning began with sunshine and nice temperatures. Our prayers certainly go out to those south of us who suffered through a second hurricane in the last six weeks. This year, 2020, is one that we will long remember—for many wrong reasons. Maybe we can just put an asterisk next to it in the record books and move on.

October 5, 2020 - Grace and peace from our brother Jesus, Amen. Sunday was World Communion Sunday. Christians from all around the world joined together in a Service of Communion and Remembrance. Paxton Methodist participated in this worldwide Christian event but with safety precautions in place. We are all masked, and I use hand sanitizer before offering Communion. Everyone stays seated while I bring each person a small Ziploc bag containing a sealed juice and a wafer; then I make another turn around to retrieve the packaging.

News from Paxton Methodist, Sept. 28

September 28, 2020 - Grace and peace from our brother Jesus, Amen. Sunday was the twenty-sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time. We got rain and the promise of fall-like temperatures this week. I went last Sunday to Dallas and visited with my daughter and son. Megan and her faithful dog Stella then returned the favor and spent a few days with us. Our two dogs really like Stella, and Stella enjoys running around our big fenced-in yard. Megan and Sue were able to visit family in Nacogdoches, including Grandma Dixie in assisted living.

September 14, 2020 - Grace and peace from our brother Jesus, Amen. Sunday was the twenty-fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time. It seems like just the other day Hurricane Laura was threatening the coast of Louisiana and the Gulf. Now we are watching Sally, hoping for the best for our neighbors to the south of us. I sure was disappointed that the promised “cold front” didn’t quite make it to our area. But the mornings have been pleasant, even though we are still in that summer weather pattern in Texas.
