April 21, 2023 - The Shelby County Veterans Service Office will host an informational presentation covering the newly enacted PACT ACT on Monday, May 8th, 2023, at 6:00pm in the Agri-Life Extension Office meeting room located at 266 Nacogdoches Street, Center, TX.
Topics to be discussed include the PACT ACT and possible benefits available to Gulf War Era, Post 9-11, Vietnam Era Veterans, and their surviving spouses.

September 23, 2022 - The National Association of Counties and National Association of County Veteran Service Officers are urging counties across the country to light government facilities and other buildings in green the week of Veterans Day to show support for military veterans.
“By shining a green light, county governments and our residents will let veterans know that they are seen, appreciated and supported,” the organizations said on the Operation Green Light website.
July 3, 2019 - To honor over half a million Texans who served in Vietnam, a special Texas limited edition 'Vietnam War 50th Commemoration: A Time to Honor,' stories of Service, Duty, and Sacrifice is available to them, compliments of Governor Greg Abbott.
June 25, 2018 - The Shelby County Veterans Service Office will administer a $20,000.00 grant awarded by Texas Veterans Commission’s Fund for Veterans Assistance. The grant funds will reimburse drivers who transport Veterans or their family members who are qualified to use VA medical facilities, to and from medical appointments at Overton Brooks VAMC, Charles Wilson OPC, Longview TX CBOC, or Michael E DeBakey in Houston. Drivers cannot be related to the Veteran. Veterans who qualify for reimbursement of travel by VA are not eligible to use this grant.
March 21, 2017 - Shelby County Veterans Service Office would like to announce this months free legal clinic for Veterans. The clinic will be on held Tuesday, March 21st from 10:00am-2:00pm.
The legal clinic is offered by Lone Star Legal Aid and is held from 10:00-2:00 every 3rd Tuesday of the month at the Historic Courthouse.
