January 31, 2019 - The fourth week of session has been a busy one as Senate Finance continues to meet every day to hear from every agency in the State. This week we have heard from agencies such as the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement, Texas Supreme Court, the Department of Motor Vehicles and the Texas Department of Agriculture.

May 4, 2017 - In classrooms at schools and colleges across Texas, students are counting down the days until they can start their summer vacation. In an almost identical countdown, legislators are marking the days left until the end of session. As I write this, we have 25 days left in the 85th Legislative Session.
March 9, 2017 - This Sunday begins daylight savings time. The Legislature is taking this very literally as we 'spring forward' into high gear with committee hearings and moving bills off the Senate floor.

February 16, 2017 - The Speaker of the House recently announced member assignments for House committees. Now that both chambers have their organizational processes in place and bills are being referred, we are getting down to business.

January 26, 2017 - This week, the Lieutenant Governor began referring bills to committee and we will soon begin to hear them in committee. The legislative process kills more bills than it passes, which I consider a good thing.
January 19, 2017 - Here in Austin, the Legislature has ended our second week of session. We are off the starting block and continue to pick up the pace for the long race ahead. During this time, as more bills are filed and the members have a chance to meet with each other, many of the issues which will define the course of the coming months begin to appear.

October 15, 2015 - On November 3rd, Texans will have the opportunity to make a critical investment in our state’s economic future and the safety of the traveling public by supporting Proposition 7. This measure will provide much needed funding for our aging and congested transportation system.
The average Texan spends nearly 50 hours each year idling in traffic, costing over $1,000 in lost productivity and wasted fuel. With more than 1,000 new people making Texas their home every day, commutes are expected to grow longer.
