November 13, 2020 – Texas Transportation Commissioners on Thursday approved more than $524.8 million in new construction projects statewide, with more than $13 million approved for the Lufkin District.
July 30, 2020 - Crews will begin an overlay project Monday, August 3 in Shelby County on SH 87 and motorists are urged to stay alert for traffic control that will be in place.
The work will begin just south of SL 500 in Center and will continue southbound on SH 87 throughout the week, weather permitting. As work moves along the 1.5 mile work zone, there will be moving equipment and workers throughout the project.
June 24, 2020 – A progress/partnering meeting was held in Nacogdoches on Tuesday regarding the Nacogdoches Direct Connector construction project. Those attending included TxDOT engineers, Longview Bridge and Road officials, utility companies, sub-contractor representatives and other stakeholders.
The $86.1 million construction project is progressing well as weather permits and engineers listed several things that have been done in recent days and discussed plans for coming weeks. Recently completed work includes:
June 2, 2020 – The 2020 Hurricane Season began Monday, June 1 and will end November 30. Motorists and residents should prepare now for possible weather emergencies that could occur during this time.
The nine-county Lufkin District stands ready in the event of a hurricane or evacuation to keep all roads clear and open. Residents should also plan and familiarize themselves with best practices in a possible hurricane event. Those best practices include:

June 1, 2020 - Texas Transportation Commissioners held a meeting by telephone Thursday approving more than $731 million in new construction projects for the state, including a $4.8 million project for the Lufkin District.
May 19, 2020 - A railroad crossing in Shelby County will be closed Wednesday, May 20th, as crews work to repair and upgrade the road base.
The Union Pacific Railroad crossing on FM 2787 will be closed through the day as concrete and limestone are placed in both lanes on the south side of the tracks. Traffic control will be set near the crossing. Motorists should plan to detour around the work zone on FM 139 or choose alternate routes.
May 7, 2020 - Beginning Thursday, May 7, Oncor Electric Delivery and Higher Power Electrical LLC will begin removing existing overhead electric lines that cross US 59 South and the southwest area of SL 224. There will be nine locations of work throughout the day that will result in traffic stops and delays of about 15 minutes at each stop. Work is expected to be completed in one extended work day. This work was originally scheduled last week, but was rescheduled because of demands on Oncor due to weather conditions.
March 18, 2020 Lufkin – Work will continue with many construction and maintenance projects throughout the nine-county Lufkin District in coming days. Motorists should prepare for delays, reduce speed and respect all work zone traffic control in place as they travel through a work zone. Stay alert for workers and moving equipment.

March 5, 2020 Lufkin – Jamie Chapman was a 20-year-old college student when he made the fateful decision to drive after drinking at a party. He slammed into a tree and suffered a traumatic brain injury. Although he survived the crash, it left him physically debilitated.
February 28, 2020 Lufkin – Texas Transportation Commissioners on Thursday approved more than $351.3 million in new construction projects statewide, with $8.4 million approved for San Augustine County. Also approved for the Lufkin District was a $1.1 million maintenance project in Trinity County.
