Texas Shifts from COVID-19 Vaccine Allocation to Ordering

Sufficient supply means providers may order vaccine as needed

May 6, 2021 - The Texas Department of State Health Services will no longer allocate COVID-19 vaccine to providers on a weekly basis. Now that the supply of COVID-19 vaccine is regularly exceeding demand, DSHS will fill vaccine orders from providers as they come in and ship vaccine from the DSHS Pharmacy or place orders with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on a daily basis.

Texas to Receive More Than 1 Million COVID-19 Vaccine First Doses; Hope to Receive Johnson & Johnson Vaccine

March 7, 2021 - The 13th week of vaccine distribution starts March 8, 2021 and Shelby County has two provider on the list. Brookshire Brother's Pharmacy is allocated to receive a total of 100 Moderna vaccine doses. Hope Community Medicine is allocated to receive a total of 100 Johnson & Johnson vaccine doses which will be the first to arrive in the area and is a single dose vaccine.

Shelby County, a part of Public Health Region 4/5N, reports over the past week an additional 744 people have been vaccinated with at least one dose for a total of 2,095.

Shelby Co. to Receive 1,170 Doses; No Appointment - Vaccines Available at 4:45pm

March 5, 2021 Update: Auroconcepts anticipates it will have vaccines still available after it has given all of the vaccines to those who had an appointment. At 4:45pm today at the John D. Windham Civic Center, vaccines will be available on a first come first serve basis for health care workers, people 65 and older and those with medical conditions that put them at greater risk of hospitalization and death from COVID-19, teachers, school and child care personnel.

DSHS Reminds Public of Health Precautions Following Hurricane Laura

August 27, 2020 - The Texas Department of State Health Services is sharing health precautions as residents return to areas affected by Hurricane Laura. Because of the ongoing threat of COVID-19, residents should continue social distancing and wearing masks when interacting with people who don’t live in their household.

DSHS urges people to follow all local drinking water and other safety notices and throw out food that may have spoiled or been contaminated. Because of the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning, gasoline-powered generators should not be used indoors.
