March 16, 2016 - Shelby County Sheriff Willis Blackwell reports that on Sunday, March 13, 2016 at approximately 1:33am, Patrol Deputy Christopher Benton was dispatched to an alarm call at Good Day's Liquor Store located at 5569 Highway 96 North, Center.

Suspects entered the building by knocking out a portion of cinder blocks at the back of the building. Surveillance video footage shows suspects involved in the burglary incident.

March 1, 2016 - The City of San Augustine Main Street Program invites artists to submit two or three dimensional artworks to be exhibited during the 2nd Annual “A Texas Treasure Heritage Festival”, Saturday, May 7, 2016, on the historic Courthouse Square, downtown San Augustine.  All works submitted must reflect the Exhibit’s overall theme; Western, Native American, historical, focusing on Texas and East Texas in particular.  This Exhibit is open to mixed media works (painting, photography, sculpture, pottery, jewelry, etc.). The City and event organizers reserve the right to decline any works that are deemed not in compliance with the theme and/or inappropriate for this family event.
 
The event organizers will take all precautions to protect work submitted for this Exhibit; however, the artist assumes all risks for any damage or loss.  The works should be “stabilized” (i.e., framed, matted or mounted on matte board, as applicable, etc.).  All work submitted must be the original work of the artist.  Be sure that your name and contact info accompany each piece and, if applicable, the title of the work, and the price if the work is offered for sale.  Sales will be completed only through the interested buyer contacting the artist to consummate the sale. 
 
All works should be mailed or delivered (between 9 AM and 4 PM) to the San Augustine County Chamber of Commerce’s office at 611 W. Columbia St., San Augustine, TX 75972 (phone 936-275-3610) no later than Wednesday, May 4th.   Works are to be picked up at the Chamber office beginning Tuesday, May 10 thru Friday, May 13.

Antwan Williams, 23, of Mansfield, La. is wanted for Simple Burglary/Felon Theft. Williams is described as a male, black. 5’8” tall and weighing 180lbs.

Coreen M. Burt, 43, of Mansfield, La. is wanted for Felony Probation Violation. Burt is described as a female, white 5’4” tall and weighing 170lbs.

January 13, 2016 - Sometime between Friday, January 8th and Saturday, January 9th unknown suspects went to Brookshire Brother, H&S Foods and Tec Co Gas Station located in Center, Texas. There they took three (3) Nacogdoches Daly Sentinel newspaper machines one (1) from each location. They then went to Shelbyville Log Cabin store and took a Light and Champion newspaper machine from that location.

Update: According to a press release issued by the Center Police Department, on Friday, January 8, 2016 Center Police Department Officers took a theft report from the Nacogdoches Daily Sentinel. They reported that three newspaper machines were stolen from three locations Brookshire Brothers, Tetco Gas Station and H&S Foods all in the City of Center.

Jeremy EdwardsTevin GarrettLater in the day, Detective Stephen Stroud was advised by Precinct 2 Constable Jamie Hagler that someone had stolen the newspaper stand from Shelbyville Grocery that belongs to the Light and Champion. On the same day, Stroud was advised that two newspaper stands were stolen out of the City of San Augustine that belong to the San Augustine Tribune.

Constable Hagler received a tip from an informant identifying one of the suspects as Tevin Garrett, 23, of Center, Texas. Constable Hagler and Stroud drove to the suspects address and were unable to locate the suspect but found evidence from thefts. Judge Margie Anderson, Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace, issued an arrest warrant for Theft on Garrett who was located and arrested later in the day.

Upon speaking with Garrett, he confessed and identified the other suspect as Jeremy Edwards, 35, of Center from Center and took Stroud, Constable Hagler, Shelby County Sheriff Investigators Dickerson and Windham to two locations where they dumped the six newspaper stands. One location was in a water filled creek off of FM 138 and the other was off the new overpass located on the new loop 500.

Investigators were able to recover four of the machines off of FM 138 late Thursday night with Sheriff’s Deputy Adam Renfro winching them out of the creek water. Investigators then went to suspect Jeremy Edwards residence where Investigator Dickerson arrested Edwards for a failure to appear warrant out of DeSoto Parish.

Upon interviewing Edwards he confessed to the thefts and was arrested for a theft warrant issued by Judge Anderson related to this case. On Friday, January 15, 2016 Shelby County Sheriffs Investigators Windham and Dickerson recovered the remaining two machines from under the overpass on the new loop 500.

January 13, 2016 - On Sunday, January 10, 2016 at approximately 11:35pm, an unknown suspect burglarized a building located on County Road 4620 in Tenaha, Texas.

The unknown suspect illegally appropriated the following property: a Briggs & Stratton HP Electric 15 HP / 8000 Watt Red/Black Generator, a Craftsman 16 inch chainsaw (black), a Husqvarna 18 inch chainsaw (orange/yellow). Surveillance video footage was captured of the suspect stealing the property.

January 13, 2016 - Center Crime Stoppers is seeking information on three individuals suspected of passing fake currency in Center. These suspects passed fake $100 bills at the Center Wal Mart on December 31, 2015.

January 5, 2016 - Center Crime Stoppers is seeking information on the whereabouts of Joshua Douglas Prewitt, 21, of Joaquin who has an active felony warrant. Mr. Prewitt is described as being a white male, 6'1” tall, and weighing 190 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.

January 4, 2016 - Shelby County Sheriff's Department Investigators are actively investigating several thefts and burglaries that were reported in the Joaquin area recently. Investigators are following up on all tips and information that is provided.

November 19, 2015 - Sometime between the dates of October 10, 2015 and November 4, 2015 suspect(s) unknown burglarized the residence of the late Shorty Goings located on County Road 2517 in Shelbyville, Texas.

Suspect(s) unknown illegally appropriated the following property: a 2003 Honda Rubicon, a 2006 Cub Cadet Zero Turn Lawnmower, Stihl weedeater, Echo gas blower, white microwave, Mr. Coffee coffee pot, a Craftsman tool cabinet (4 drawer), a Craftsman top chest (9 drawer), miscellaneous tools, an Orion telescope, (3) battery chargers, a Huskey air compressor, various pots/pans, kitchen items, rugs, cast iron dutch oven, along with several firearms.

Update: On Friday, November 13th, 2015 at 05:05pm, Derrek Monroe Hughes turned himself in at the Shelby County Sheriff's Department and was booked for the warrant of Theft of Livestock, Felony 3.
