January 15, 2024 - Over the week of January 7th through 13th the Joaquin Volunteer Fire Department responded to one call. Here’s a summary of the week’s events.

Tuesday evening at 6:38pm a call was received requesting the JVFD to provide mutual aid on a structure fire in Logansport. When the JVFD arrived on scene, much of the fire within the structure had been extinguished, so they assisted with efforts to save personal belongings from smoke and water damage. Multiple Fire Districts from DeSoto Parish were also on scene ensuring that the fire was put out.

Three other pages were received throughout the week, but were resolved shortly after, so no action was required by the JVFD.

In other news, the Joaquin VFD will be hosting a political rally for all the candidates running for public office in Shelby County on Saturday, January 27th in the Joaquin ISD cafeteria. The department will be serving hamburgers at 6pm and the rally will begin at 7pm. All candidates and people of the community are welcome to attend. Candidates will be given an opportunity to speak and following their speeches, there will be time for the community to ask questions. Each candidate is encouraged to bring a cake or baked good to auction off after their speech as well.

With that, this edition of the report will come to a close. The Joaquin Volunteer Fire Department hopes everyone has a great and safe week ahead.
