This Week in Shelby County Football

October 21, 2016 – Last week three of our county varsity football teams won their district games, while two lost on the road.

The Center Roughriders lost at Carthage by a 42-16 score. This was Center’s first District 9 4A-1 loss and dropped their conference mark to 3-1. The ‘Riders overall mark stands at 5-3. They will host the Henderson Lions tonight at 7:30 p.m. Henderson suffered their first district loss, in a 28-26 setback to a visiting Kilgore Bulldog team last week. This was Henderson’s first loss, their record stands at 6-1 this season.

The Joaquin Rams boosted their District 11 2A-1 mark to 2-0 with a 29-18 win over, cross-county rival, Shelbyville High School. The Rams overall record now stands at 5-2. They will travel to Carlisle tonight for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff with the Indians. Carlisle has an unblemished 7-0 record and beat Alto 28-7 on the road last week.

Shelbyville stands at 1-6 overall and is 0-2 in District 11 2A-1 action. They will host the Cushing Bearkats at 7:30 p.m. tonight, at Dragons Stadium. Cushing lost at home to San Augustine last week by a 54-7 margin. The Bearkats are 0-2 in conference play and 2-5 overall.

Tenaha brought their District 11 2A-2 mark to 7-0 with a 74-0 thrashing of Wortham High School. The Tigers are 2-0 in league play. Saturday is homecoming for the Tigers and they will host the Grapeland Sandies at 6 p.m. The Sandies are 3-4 overall and fell to 0-2, in the conference, after suffering a 26-12 loss to the Timpson Bears at home last week. Timpson is now 2-0 in District 11 2A-2 action. They host the Overton Mustangs tonight at 7:00 p.m. Overton is 5-2 with a 2-0 conference standing. They beat Mount Enterprise 65-8, at Mustangs Stadium, last Friday.
