Lady Tigers Overtake Lady Rams, Move Conference Mark to 6-1

Joaquin Rams Gymnasium, January 17, 2017 –

The Tenaha Lady Tigers Basketball Team gained a 11-0 lead, during the first period of Tuesday’s District 22 2A contest with the hometown Joaquin Lady Rams. Lady Ram Erica Davis ended the Joaquin scoring drought with a 3-pointer with 1:42 left in the opening stanza. The Lady Tigers took a 14-3 lead into the start of the second period of play.

Jaden Washington scored a bucket for the Lady Tigers at the start of the second quarter but Davis answered for Joaquin just moments later. This put the score at 16-5 with 6:44 left before halftime. The Lady Tigers ultimately outscored Joaquin 12-10, during the second frame, and THS took a 26-13 lead into the locker room at the midway intermission.

Eboni Adams hit a 3-point bomb to start the third period and pulled JHS to within ten points of Tenaha at 16-26. Tenahas’ Bianca Davison got hot and scored ten points during the third frame and helped THS outpace Joaquin 16-8. This helped the Lady Tigers take a 42-21 scoring advantage into the final period of play.

The Lady Rams outscored Tenaha 9-7 in the final quarter but it was too-little-too-late as Tenaha took away the 49-30 win. Tenaha now stands at 6-1 in conference action. Joaquin is still in contention for a playoff spot as well, they stand at 4-3 in league competition.

Joaquin players who scored were, Erica Davis with 9, Desere Cooper 7, Day’za Lane 6, Eboni Adams 5, and Hana Bonner with 3 points. Tenaha was led by Arlicia Roland with 19, Bianca Davison 17, Shayla Parks 11, and Jaden Washington scored 2 points.

Tenaha will host the San Augustine Wolves on Friday, January 20. Junior Varsity action will begin at 4:30 p.m. with Varsity games to follow.

Joaquin will travel to Shelbyville on Friday. Varsity Girl’s play is slated for 6:30 p.m.
