Tigers Pound Hometown Rams 94-36

The Tenaha Tigers Varsity Basketball Team (4-0) headed east on Tuesday for a District 22 2A game and a cross-county rivalry game with The Joaquin Rams (2-2).

Joaquin’s Eleazor Huerta hit a 3-point bucket which gave Joaquin an early lead but the Rams found themselves trailing 17-4 by the midway point of the first period and 31-6 by the end of the opening period. Tenaha's Hayden Jenkins and La Darrius Garrett each hit two 3-pointers during the first quarter.

A speedy Tenaha defensive press stole the ball nine times in the second period and gave the Tigers the opportunity to enjoy a 21-9 scoring advantage during the second frame. THS led 52-15 at the midway break.

Tenaha's Juarmez Brock and Cody Foshee scored seven points each and the Tigers outpaced JHS once again in the third period, by a 26-13 margin. Tenaha went up by 50 points at 78-28.

Foshee exploded for ten fourth-quarter points, while the THS defense held the Joaquin team to just eight points. Tenaha outscored the Rams once again16-8 during the final stanza. The Tigers took the conference win by a 94-36 final score.

Joaquin’s Justin Hooper scored 14 points, Eleazor Huerta 10, Tray Wilkerson 6, Nick Matthews 3, Peyton Martinez 2, and JaKendric Smith scored one point.

Cody Foshee led the Tigers with 23 points, JaQualin Franks had 15, Hayden Jenkins13, Trai Gardner 10, Jay Lloyd 8, Juarmez Brock 7, LaDarrius Garrett 6, and TK Gardner scored two points.

Tenaha now stands at 5-0 in district competition and will travel to San Augustine, on Friday, January 20. Junior Varsity will tip off at 4:30 p.m. and Varsity play will follow.

Joaquin has a 2-3 conference mark and will travel to Shelbyville on Friday, January 20. Varsity Boys' conference play is slated for 7:30 p.m.
