Lady Roughriders Blitzed By Vicious Tatum Eagles Defense

Center Roughriders Gymnasium, Friday, January 20, 2017 –

Thirty-Eight points by Lady Eagle Brianna Mitchell helped Tatum High School pull away from the hometown Center Lady Roughriders varsity basketball team. Tatum ultimately gained a convincing 87-30 District 16 4A win. The Lady Eagles now hold a 4-0 conference mark and are 25-0 overall. Center is 2-12 and 0-4 in district play.

The Lady Eagles got 12 points from Mitchell in the first period alone and gained a 24-6 lead by the end of the opening frame.

In the second quarter Taylor Nichols, Makayla Rankin, and Shanya Williams all hit buckets for Center but the Eagles still outpaced the Lady ‘Riders in route to taking a 45-14 lead into the locker room at the halftime intermission.

Taylor Nichols scored eight points in the third period but Center was unable to gain much ground. Tatum took a 65-24 advantage in to the final period of play. The Lady Eagle once again outscored CHS 22-6 to help gain the 57-point margin of victory.

Taylor Nichols led the Lady ‘Riders with 16 points, teammate Shaynya Williams scored 6, Anitra Harper, Makayla Hubbard, JaKayla Weathered, and Makayla Rankin, each had two points.

Center will host the Carthage Lady Bulldogs on Tuesday, January 24 with sub-varsity action beginning at 5 p.m., and varsity play following.
