Roughriders beat Mabank In Area, Head to Regional Quarterfinals

The Center Roughriders Varsity Basketball Team beat Mabank’s Panthers, by a 58-38 margin, in the Area round of the UIL playoffs played at Tyler Junior College last Friday.

Center took a 14-5 lead by the end of the first period and held the Panthers to just 19 points in the first half. Center went into the start of the third quarter with a 32-19 lead.

The Roughriders outpaced the Panthers 13-8 in the third period and led 45-27 going into the fourth and final quarter of play. The ‘Riders were once again able to outscore Mabank (13-11 points) in the final stanza to take the twenty-point win.

Leading Center was Jaterious Evans with 19 points, Octavius Evans 14, Kyle Parks 8, Jamarh Johnson 6, Jamonie Nash 6, Reggie Daniels 4, and Kameron Elmer scored one point.

This win gives Center High School a 31-4 record, the Area title and sends the Roughriders to the Regional Quarterfinal round to face the Pleasant Grove Hawks, on Tuesday February 28 at 6 p.m.
