Rams Thrash Homefield Tigers, Stay On Top of District

Tenaha, Cole DePriest Ballpark. March 31, 2017 – The Joaquin Rams Varsity Baseball Team left no doubt when they defeated the home town Tenaha Tigers by a convincing 24-4 score. They are on top of District 23 2A with a 7-0 record. Woden is in second place with a 6-1 mark. Shelbyville holds third place with a 5-2 standing and Gary is in fourth place with a 4-3 district mark.

The Rams gained a 7-0 run lead, in the top of the first inning, and steadily increased their lead throughout the contest. Joaquin led 15-0 in the second frame, 19-0 in the third, and 23-0 by the end of the fourth.

The Tigers scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning but it was too late to avoid the enforcement of the conferences’ ten-run-rule.
 

Junior Joaquin lead-off hitter, Kase Yates started the game with a homer over the left field wall which gave JHS a 1-0 lead just four pitches into the contest.

Senior Rams pitching ace Brock Lawson left the game, at the conclusion of the third inning, after striking out eight Tiger batters and allowing only one hit. Tenaha had six hits total during the game.

The Rams had 14 hits during the contest and reached on 12 free bases. Joaquin loaded the bases five times.
 

The Rams will next host Martinsville High School (0-7), on Tuesday, April 4 at 6 p.m. MHS is the only winless team in the conference.

Tenaha (1-6) will host Mount Enterprise (2-5) at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday April 4.
