Thein Headed to Wyoming to Play Soccer at Gillette

July 5, 2017. Center, Texas

Aung Thein, a recent graduate of Center High School, has accepted a scholarship to play soccer for the Gillette College Pronghorns Men's Soccer team. Coach Saber Garcia announced Tuesday, “We are happy to announce that Aung Thein will be joining the Pronghorns this season. Thein played striker for Center last season and scored over 40 goals in his Junior year alone. Aung can turn on a dime and has a rocket leg. We look forward to seeing him do it in the Pronghorn Blue. Welcome Aung! ."

Gillette College, established in 1969, is a 2-year community college in Gillette, Wyoming. The college is operated by the Northern Wyoming Community College District. The college offers Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees, as well as certificate and applied science programs that prepare students for skilled trades such as welding and industrial electricity. In June, the college was granted a $250,000 grant for a new soccer field near their Pronghorn Center at a special Campbell County School District board meeting. This will be the inaugural season for a completely new men’s soccer team at Gillette College.

Thein played a big part in Centers’ success last season as well. The CHS Roughriders team won the District 19 4A title and went all the way to the Regional Finals before being beaten by Washington High in overtime by a 2-1 margin.
