This Week in Shelby County Football

Week 7 for Shelby County varsity football teams will see all but one team play district contest. Tenaha will face a non-conference Christian parochial team after a forfeit by Mount Enterprise High School.

The Center Roughriders are 1-5 and have a 1-1 mark in District 9 4A-I play. Last week they lost a conference game, at home to the Palestine Wildcats, by a 42-21 margin. This Friday they will travel to Chapel Hill for their third district game with the Bulldogs (3-3, 0-2). The Bulldogs lost to Kilgore, on the road, last week by a 42-35 score. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. on Friday October 13, 2017.

The Joaquin Rams have recently enjoyed a bye week after defeating the Hawkin Hawks , in a home non-conference game, 56-0 for Homecoming at JHS. Joaquin is now 4-1 and has won four straight games. They will travel to Alto this week for their first District 11 2A-1 game. The Yellowjackets are 2-4, 0-0. Alto last lost at home to the Rusk Eagles by a 43-21 margin. The Rams and ‘Jackets will kick off at Yellowjackets’ Stadium at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, October 13, 2017.

The Shelbyville Dragons won a non-conference game on the road over All Saints Episcopal Academy by a lopsided 48-10 score. Shelbyville is now 1-4 and will head into their first District 11 2A-1 game. The Dragons will face San Augustine at Wolves Stadium on Friday, October 13, 2017, at 7:30 p.m. The Wolves are 5-0 and last beat the Overton Mustangs 56-0 on the road in a non-conference event.

The Tenaha Tigers will play on Saturday, October 14, 2017. They will kick off with Houston KIPP Northeast TCAL Academy (1-2) at 6 p.m. They last beat West Sabine on the road by a 65-0 score. The Tigers are 5-0 (1-0 in District 11 2A-2) and they received a forfeit this week from Mount Enterprise High School who could not field a team this week due to injuries.

The Timpson Bears are 4-1. They will travel to Wortham High School( 4-1) for their first District 11 2A-1 game on Friday, October 13, 2017 at 7 p.m. Timpson beat Lovelady, on the road, 20-14 two weeks ago. Wortham last lost to Granger, on the road, by a 41-34 score.
