The visiting Joaquin Rams varsity football team left Shelbyville Dragons Field, on Friday, after taking a 31-0 victory, and their second District 11 2A-1 win. Joaquin now boosts their record to 6-1, 2-0 in conference play. They have won six straight games after losing narrowly to Tenaha in their season opener.

Shelbyville, a Shelby County rival, falls to 1-6, 0-2.

Ram Kase Yates got JHS on the board with a 7-yard run with 7:02 left in the opening quarter of play. The Rams led 6-0 after a failed extra point attempt.

Shelbyville was unsuccessful getting anything going on their first two drives and Joaquin capitalized, once again, when Yates added another score on a run from three yards out with 1:28 left in the opening stanza. Teammate Tre Burns added a 2-point conversion run to put Joaquin ahead by a 14-0 margin.

With 11:49 left in the third quarter, Ram Hunter Gates scored on a 63-yard run and Joaquin led 20-0.

Shelbyville had good position with a kick return to their 42-yard line to start their first possession of the second half but their opening drive stalled in the red zone later in the third stanza.

Rams kicker Jesus Bravo kicked a 35-yard field goal with 1:55 left in the third period which gave JHS a 23-0 lead.

The final scores of the contest were made when Trey Wilkerson scored on a quarterback keeper from 14 yards out to give Joaquin a 29-0 advantage, and Trenton Ramsey scored on a run for the 2-point conversion. This brought the final score to 31-0 with less than three minutes left in the contest.

Joaquin outpaced the Dragons 18-5 on first downs. Rushing the Rams held a 349-41 yard advantage. JHS was 2/3 passing for 45 yards. Shelbyville passed for 17 yards, completing two of five attempts. Both teams were assessed 45 yards in penalties.
