Roughriders Get First District Win Over Henderson Lions

The Center Roughriders Varsity Basketball Team got their first District 16 4A-2 win, at home, with a 72-67 win over the Henderson Lions on Friday. The win moved the #1 ranked Roughriders, coached by Hiram Harrison, to 23-1 for the season. Center is currently on a 16-game winning streak.

The ‘Riders used 9 points, during the first period, by Kaleb Parks to jump out to an early 23-8 lead.

Henderson bounced back by outscoring Center 20-8 in the second quarter to cut the Roughriders’ lead to five points at halftime. Center went into the locker room ahead 33-28 at the midway intermission.

Jaterious Evans exploded for 15 points during the third period to help CHS extend their lead to 54-47 going into the final stanza.

The fourth quarter would see the Lions outscore the ‘Riders 20-18 but still trail by five points at game’s end.

Henderson now has a 0-1 conference mark. Their overall record stands a 4-14.

Center was led by Jaterious Evans 33 points, teammate Kaleb Parks had 23, Jeremiah Hightower 8, Jayden Hicks, 5, and Jakavian Calhoun chipped in three points.

Henderson was led by Daterrious Hart with 25 points.

The Roughriders will travel to Tatum High School next Friday, January 19, 2018, for another conference game. JV action will begin at 5 p.m. and Varsity play will follow around 7 p.m.
