Dragons Defeat Rams in Senior Night Finale

Last Monday, the Shelbyville Dragons defeated the visiting Joaquin Rams Varsity Basketball Team by a 63-50 score. The game was Shelbyville’s Senior Night and the team’s final regular season game.Senior students Constance Moore, Ryan Bailey, Mac Wheeler, Kyle Tindol, Ty Fox, and Reece Stroud were announced as senior honorees in a ceremony held before the game’s tipoff.

The game was close in the first period until Shelbyville went on a 7-0 scoring run which gave them a 17-9 advantage going into the second quarter. H’Leighton McClelland and Cole Ferguson each scored five points to help the Dragons gain a 33-24 lead by the halftime intermission.

The Dragons outscored the Rams 14-9 during the third stanza and Shelbyville built a 47-33 lead going into the fourth period.

Joaquin scored 17 points while allowing the Dragon 16 points during the final period but, SHS was able to hang on for the 13-point win.

Shelbyville finished the regular season with an 11-1 District 22 2A mark. They have at least a share of the conference title depending on results from Tenaha’s final district contest. They were led by Jakevion Buckley with 17 points. Jordan Boykins added 16 points to the Dragons tally, Cole Ferguson 15, Ryan Bailey 7, H'Leighton McClelland 5, Kolby Parker 2, and Kyle Tindol scored one point.

Joaquin was led by Connor Bragg 12 points, Tray Wilkerson 12, Ellie Huerta 12, Nick Matthews 8, and Lorenzo Lane scored six.

The Dragons will next play class 3A Groesbeck (18-13) at Frankston High School in a Playoff Preview game which is on Friday, February 16, 2018 at 1 p.m.
