Lady Bears Knock Off #24 Ranked Evadale Rebels 63-31

Zavalla High School, February 16, 2018 –

The unranked Timpson Lady Bears Varsity Basketball Team have advanced through the Area round of the UIL Playoffs after defeating the #24 Ranked Evadale Lady Rebels by a 63-31 score.

Three early 3-point buckets, by Lady Bears’ sophomore guard Laiton Braddock, and 3-pointers in the opening period by Sara Duke and Jasmine Rodgers, helped Timpson gain a 21-7 advantage by the end of the first quarter.  Braddock, McKenzie Burgay, and Ja’Karia Deckard, all chipped in five points apiece during the second period. This helped Timpson take a 37-13 lead into the locker room at the halftime intermission.

Evadale made up some ground by the end of the third frame after outscoring Timpson 12-10, and they pulled to within 47-25 going into the fourth period. Timpson returned the favor by holding the Lady Rebels to just three points in the final stanza while scoring 11 points offensively.

The Lady Rebels were led offensively by freshman guard Jaycee Campbell, the only Evadale player in double figures.

Scoring for Timpson was Laiton Braddock with 14 points, Jasmine Rodger 14, Brylee Behrens 10, Ja’Karia Deckard 9, McKenzie Burgay 7, Sara Duke 3, Claire Johnson 3, and Harlie Ware scored two points.

The Lady Rebels season comes to an end after they posted an unbeaten 8-0 District 24 2A mark and had a 29-9 overall mark for the season.

Timpson was the third place representative of District 22 2A and they are 25-9 overall and were 8-4 in conference action. They are under the direction of Athletic Director Kerry Therwanger, Head Coach Joshua Jourden, and assistant coaches;  Jerrod Campbell and Teresa Jourden.

The Lady Bears will play the winner of the Colmesneil Woden game in a regional quarterfinal contest to be announced later on.
