Joaquin Senior Day’za Lane Signs Track Scholarship with Texas College

Wednesday, February 21, 2018, Joaquin High School –

Joaquin Senior Day’za Lane signed a college letter of intent to participate in track and study at Texas College, in Tyler Texas.

Joaquin students, friends, family, and press, were in attendance at the ceremony held in Ram’s Gymnasium and headed by JHS Girl’s Athletic Director Stephen McCann.

McCann said, “Any time we can see a Joaquin student sign a letter to further their education is a good day. Every year Day’za pours her heart into athletics. She does everything that is asked of her summertime, fall, or springtime. Her hard work in the classroom, gym, and in the field, has made her an opportunity to further her education.”

Lane will major in Biology at Texas College next fall. She chose the school because of the close location to her home and the many opportunities they offer. She will be looking to compete in the 400 Meter, and 200 Meter, races in the college’s racing events.

Day’za said, “I will miss Joaquin, and Joaquin High School, but I am looking forward to moving on to Texas College and competing for the school and Coach Murphy next fall.”

During her time at Joaquin she has competed in track and basketball, as well as other school events.

Dayza's mother, Shelly Bass, and her brother, Lorenzo Lane, were on hand to celebrate the signing event. Lorenzo is also a student at Joaquin High School.
