Douglass Hands Lady Rams First Conference Loss

Joaquin Rams Ballpark, Tuesday, March 27, 2018 –

A 5-4 hitting advantage, and a 1-10 error outing, helped the visiting Douglass Lady Indians hand the Joaquin Lady Rams their first District 22 2A loss this season, by a 6-2 score. The loss broke a 6-game winning streak for Joaquin and brought their season mark to 10-5. They are 7-1 in conference play and are atop the leader board.

Two hits and a throwing error, in the top of the first inning, gave Douglass an early 1-0 advantage.

Lead-off hitter, Ebbie McCann, got on base with an infield hit for Joaquin in the bottom of the first inning but was picked off. The Lady Rams only saw three batters reach base and headed to the second frame trailing 1-0.

An error and a double by Lady Indian C. Hogan helped Douglass gain a 2-0 advantage in the top of the second inning.

Joaquin pulled to within 1-2 in the bottom of the second frame when Molly Mason led off the inning with a single to leftfield and was later sent home after a bases loaded walk.

A lead-off walk, a double and an infield hit by Douglass allowed the Lady Indians to extend their lead to 5-1 in the third inning. Lady Rams’ pitcher Chloe Mason struck out three straight batters to end the frame and limit the damage.

The bottom half of the third inning saw only three Lady Rams reach the plate as they were set down 1-2-3 on two strike outs and a ground out.

Two errors in the top of the sixth inning helped the Lady Indians stay alive long enough to add a run and extend their lead to 6-1.

Annalyn DeChamplain drew a walk in the bottom of the seventh inning and scored on an infield hit by McCann, but this would prove to be the final score of the contest.

Defensively, Joaquins’ Chloe Mason struck out nine Lady Indian batters during the loss.

The Lady Rams will travel to Wells High School for a 4 p.m. game on Friday, March 30, 2018.
