Roughriders Defeat Bulldogs 4-1, Remain Undefeated in Conference

The Center Roughriders Varsity Baseball Team defeated the Carthage Bulldogs, for the third time this season, to remain undefeated in District 16 4A. The ‘Riders enjoyed the win, during their Senior Night game, and they are now 18-5-1. The team stands at 11-0 in conference action. They have clinched the district title as all other teams have at least three loses. Coach Kelly Spann and his staff will be preparing the team to go into the postseason as the #1 seed from District 16 where they will face a #4 seed from neighboring District 15.

Carthage jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after Callahan Baldree walked and was later able to score on a Noah Anderson double to right field. The one run Bulldog lead held up until the bottom of the fourth inning.

Center scored all four of their runs in a rally in the fourth frame.  Center tied the game at 1-1 when Alejandro Flores singled to right-centerfield and drove in Tyler Fountain who had reached base on a fielder’s choice. Flores and Christian Lee, who reached base on a walk, where later driven home when Logan Mitchell hit a towering homer over the leftfield wall. This gave Center a 4-1 lead which held up for the remainder of the contest.

Defensively Tyler Fountain and Jaxon Covington teamed up for 11 strike outs on the night for the Roughriders, while they only allowed four Bulldogs to hit safely. They only gave up three walks to Carthage.

Center had four hits, walked four times and they were struck out seven times.

The ‘Riders will head to Rusk High School on Friday, April 27, 2018 for a 7 p.m. game with the Eagles. Rusk is 5-5 in district play and 10-9 overall. They beat Henderson 6-4 on Friday night.
