Lady Rams Win Bi-District Game 1 over Lady Tigers 3-2

Jacksonville High School, Friday, April 27, 2018 –

(The Lady Rams softball season has come to an end after West Sabine defeated Joaquin 8-1 in Game 2, and 6-1 in Game 3. The Lady Tigers won the best-of-three game series, 2 games to 1, and will move on to the Regional Quarterfinal Round of the UIL Softball Playoffs.)

The Joaquin Lady Rams Varsity Softball Team opened up post-season play with a 3-2 win over the Latexo Lady Tigers. The game played out at Jacksonville High School’s Sports Complex. Joaquin is the first place representative of District 22 Class 2A. Latexo is the fourth place representative of District 21. The series is a best two-of-three game series with Game 2 being played at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Jacksonville High School. Game 3, if necessary will follow Game 2 at the same location. The winner of the series will face the winner of the District 23/24 playoff being played this weekend between West Sabine and Groveton High Schools.

Latexo jumped out quickly in Game 1 opening up the contest with three consecutive hits to open up the game. By the time the top half of the first frame was completed, the Lady Tigers had hit safely four times, and they took a 2-0 run lead before Chloee Mason was able to account for all three outs in the inning with strike outs. By game’s end she had struck out 16 Lady Tigers during the win.

Joaquin bounced back and tied the game at 2-2 when Abbie McCann led off the bottom half of the first inning. Kennedy Stanley got on later by walking later in the inning. The two base runners where later driven in by Chloee Mason with a two runs-batted-in double to left field.

The game remained tied at 2 runs apiece until Kennedy Stanley singled to left field, in the bottom of the fifth inning, and she was later driven home by a Chloee Mason single up the middle of the field. This gave the Lady Rams a 3-2 lead which held up for the remainder of the game.

Mason got the win pitching for Joaquin. She allowed three walks, struck out 16 batters and gave up eight hits. The Lady Rams committed three errors.

Gracie Zalesky took the loss for Latexo. She struck out 10 batters, walked one, and gave up one free base.

The Lady Rams’ season record now stands at 17-6. Latexo is 9-14.
