Garvis Childress Jones

Garvis Childress Jones, 78, of Joaquin, Texas, passed away on February 10, 2018 in Huxley. She was born on January 21, 1940 in Center to Thomas Russell Childress and Lera Nina Scruggs.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM on Monday, February 12, 2018 at Mangum Funeral Home with Bro. David Long and Bro. Luke Garrett officiating. Interment will follow at Jackson Cemetery. A visitation will be from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Mangum Funeral Home.

Garvis grew up in Joaquin and graduated with the class of 1959 from Joaquin High School. She went on to become an administrative assistant over the years for Joaquin ISD, Texas State Bank, Farmers State Bank in Center, and Fairchild Price Law Firm.

Garvis was a woman that radiated life, love and joy to her family, friends, and anyone who had the pleasure to meet her. She loved to bake and you could always smell the sweet savors flowing from her kitchen. More than anything, she treasured the moments spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were the light of her life. Her heart was full when she was surrounded by family enjoying the laughter and making memories together.

She was a member of Jackson Missionary Baptist Church in Joaquin and was very active in the Ladies Sunday School Class.

Jon Jones and wife, Kinsey of Huxley
Jared Jones and wife, Madison of Joaquin
Samantha Jones of Lake Charles, Louisiana
Sarah Lavergne and husband, Jacob of Lake Charles, Louisiana

Great-grandchildren: Landry and Bowen Balkcom, Judson Jones, and Lakyn Jones

Special family friend, Linda Jansen

And numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Lera Childress; two brothers, Harold Childress and Buddy Childress; and one sister, Diane Lassiter.

Pallbearers are Josh Childress, Darren Childress, David Childress, Michael Childress, Kyle Ivey, Luke Garrett and Lamar Kovar.
Honorary pallbearers are Louie Bushiey, Delwin Johnson, Darren Lassiter, Drake Jansen, and Joel Childress.
