Harry James Stansberry

Harry James Stansberry departed this life on Tuesday, March 6, 2018. A life began 68 years ago in Vicksburg, MS on September 11, 1949. This new life was born to HB Stansberry and Macel Lee Brock.

Harry was a graduate of East Liberty High School in Shelby County in 1968. He united in matrimony to Faye Dell Brittain shortly after graduation. To this union his first child was born, Patrick James Stansberry. Harry enlisted in the Army in 1969 until 1972 during Vietnam. After serving his country, he came back to Shelby County to reside and stated to work for the U.S. Postal Service, working as a clerk in Center, Texas. In 1978 he remarried, uniting with Doris M. Johnson and to this union three children were born, Leticia, Jason, and Brandon. Harry continued to work for the postal service and was later promoted as Postmaster in Shelbyville, Texas, making him the first African American Postmaster in Shelby County. He retired in 2004 after 30 plus years, going on to enjoy his leisure time doing things such as hunting, fishing, watching western re-runs, playing dominoes, and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Lorene Edwards and Margie Nell Edwards Ratcliff.

Funeral service was held Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Abundant Love Ministries, Center, Texas with Pastor Marlon Cloudy, Sr. eulogist. Interment is at Haley Bush Cemetery, San Augustine, Texas.

Pallbearers: Sam Sanders, Joe Belin, Reginald Patton, Vincent Nathan, Darryl Gray, Lentell Johnson, Larry Brinson, and Tommy Jackson
