John Nathan Hughes, 80, of Jasper, TX passed away Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at his residence. A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Center, TX. The family will greet friends immediately following the service.

Mr. Hughes was born on May 12, 1937 in Center, TX, to Jewell Theron Hughes and Thelma Lydia Gathright Hughes. John started working early in life at a cafe, gas station, and a family owned furniture store. In 1959 he became a police officer and in 1961 a Constable and then in 1967 he was appointed Police Chief. He resigned in 1974 to go to work with Hughes Security in Port Arthur, TX. In 1986 he purchased Hughes Security and continued there until 2001, when he retired and moved to Jasper, TX.

Johnny enjoyed riding his golf cart over his ten acres and feeding the fish in the pond. He loved his dogs riding around with him through the neighborhood to visit with all the neighbors and giving rides to the neighborhood kids. Johnny was loved by so many people. His family and friends looked to him when they needed advice or just some encouraging words. His love for the Lord and his family could be seen in all that he did. Johnny's passion was to support his brother, Rev. Bob Hughes' mission work in the Philippines.
