Leonard C. Hughes, 73, of Timpson, Texas passed away on August 17, 2017 in Carthage surrounded by family. He was born on December 23, 1943 in the Waterman Community to Robert Cleave Hughes and Gertie Dee Renfro. Funeral services for Mr. Hughes will be at 3:00 PM on Sunday, August 20, 2017 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with Bro. Eric Pledger officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery. A visitation will be from 6PM to 8PM on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Taylor Funeral Home in Timpson.
Born and raised in the Waterman Community, Shelby County, Texas, Leonard attended Timpson High School, graduating class of 1962. A few years later, Mr. Hughes was drafted into the United States Army where he proudly served his country for two years. Leonard married the love of his life, Rena Barrett Hughes, May 20, 1967 and the two have spent over 50 wonderful years together before his passing. Leonard enjoyed the precious time he spent with family, whether it was on the lake teaching young ones to ski, or camping. He was definitely a very personable, outgoing, warm and welcoming kind of person. Leonard absolutely loved people and would always find the good in everyone. He was that kind of person that would look past the bad and always have something good to say. Leonard attended Bethel Baptist Church in Clayton, Texas.

Brothers: Charles Joe Hughes
Grandson: Granger Keith Hughes
Numerous nieces and nephews
A host of family and friends and family that will miss him dearly.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and brother Robert Ray Hughes.
