Rev. Maurice Lout, 87, Lifelong resident of Center, passed away Monday April 30, 2007 at Shelby Regional Medical in Center.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday May 3, 2007 at Mangum Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Oaklawn Memorial Park. Visitation will start Tuesday evening and continue Wednesday and until service time on Thursday.

Mr. Claude Lipka, age 93 of Orange passed away Friday, April 6, 2007 in Alameda, CA.

Full Military Memorial Graveside Service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2007 at Old Home Cemetery.

He was born July 1, 1913 to Edward and Tessie Lipka. He served in the U.S. Navy.

Verlee Pullin Barham, age: 91 of Fort Worth, formerly of Huxley, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2007 in Fort Worth, TX.

Services will be 11:00 am Wednesday, May 2, 2007 at the Toledo Bend Baptist Church in Huxley with Bro. Russ Atwood officiating, burial will follow at Wimberly Cemetery in Huxley.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Mangum Funeral Home.

She was born April 2, 1916 in Kilbourne, LA to parents, Jesse & Lula Bankston Pullin. She owned and operated a florist for many years. She was a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 903, in Joaquin. She was a member of the Toledo Bend Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Walker Barham.

Lorine Daw, 87, passed away Friday, April 27, 2007. She was a long time resident of the Haslam area, where she and her late husband of 42 years, Burk Daw, had a Skelly Service station during the late 40’s and early 50’s. Mrs. Daw was very active in this business. She was the last of the original thirteen service station owners on the Haslam Strip.

Mrs. Daw was born on October 29, 1919 to Julius Levet (J.L.) and Bernice McGee Blount of Shelby County. She was 87 years young. Mrs. Daw had been in Pine Grove Nursing Home for the past several years.

She was a 50-year-plus member of the Joaquin Chapter of The Eastern Star and was the last of the original members of the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Joaquin, where she and her late husband, Burk, and his brother, Waymon and wife Euna helped organize the church back in the early 50’s.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, April 29, 2007 at Watson and Sons Funeral Home in Center with Randy Smith and Joe Walker officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Daw, John E. Brandt, Ricky Daw, Stephen A. Brandt, Roger Daw and Matthew Brandt. Honorary pallbearer will be Logan Dewayne Daw.

She is also survived by a host of friends and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ruth Hughes, 66, of Timpson passed away Thursday, April 26, 2007 in Nacogdoches. She was born November 10, 1940 in Joaquin, Texas to James Harper and Neva Buckner Harper. Mrs. Hughes was a homemaker, mother and grandmother.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday April 28, 2007 at Jackson Cemetery in Joaquin with Frankie Desoto officiating.

He was born March 8, 1913 in Nacogdoches to Samuel Jackson Weatherly and Clemmie Mae Tarver. He was a construction welder and worked in ship yard during WWII. He was a Masonic Lodge member. He attended the Appleby Church of Christ

Richard Thomas Black, 57, of Houston passed away Monday, April 23, 2007 at his home. He was born September 19, 1949 in Houston to James Harold Black and Laura Maybelle Davis Black. Richard was of the Baptist Faith.

Following cremation, the family will have a private memorial service at Old Salem Cemetery in Shelby County.

Survivors Include: Parents, James and Paula Black of Palestine, Brother, James Black of Deer Park and Brother, Ronald Lee Black of Deer Park.

C.E. Carlton, 89 of San Leon passed away Monday, April 23, 2007 at UTMB in Galveston.

Caely was a homemaker and a student. She loved scrapbooking. Caely was a member of the Governor's Program on Abstinence of Louisiana and a volunteer spokesperson on Cystic Fibrosis. She attended Central Baptist Church in Center.

J.W. Hall, 75, of Center passed away Sunday, April 15, 2007 at Shelby Regional Medical Center. He was born June 17, 1931 in Woodsboro to Johnny Hall and Odetus Marsh Hall. Mr. Hall served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a member of Hurst Street Church of Christ.

Ross "Woody" Lonergan , 49, of Joaquin, passed away Sunday, April 15, 2007 at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital. He was born November 24, 1957 in Chandler, Arizona to James Cecil Lonergan and Pat Vernable Lonergan. Mr. Lonergan was retired from AT&T where he worked as a communication technician. He service in the US Navy and the Air National Guard.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at Watson and Sons Funeral Home in Center with Frank McCardy officiating. Interment will follow at Neuville Cemetery in Shelby County.

Addie Cameron, 84, of Joaquin, went to be with her lord on Saturday April 14, 2007. She passed away at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday April 17, 2007 at Mangum Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. R.L. Coudrain and Bro. Hollis Bass officiating, burial will follow at Deadwood Cemetery in Panola County.

Visitation will be Monday April 16, 2007 after 11 a.m. at Mangum Funeral Home.

Ms. Cameron was born July 29, 1922 to Allie and Sally Adams Carter. She married Leslie E. Cameron on October 13, 1942. Ms. Cameron was of the Pentecostal faith and very active in church till her health brought her down. She loved her lord and going to church. She also loved helping others anyway she could. Ms. Cameron also enjoyed fishing and if she was a getting a bite she would sit there all day long. That’s just how much she loved her fishing. She was dearly loved and will forever be missed. Grandma would not want us to feel sorry for her, for she has gone on to a better place. God’s Smiling face waits for her at Heaven’s Gates. But just know we will always carry her precious memories in our hearts.

She is preceded in death by her parents Allie and Sally Carter, husband Leslie E. Cameron and Brothers and Sisters.

Lorene Foster, 90, of Center passed away Thursday, April 13, 2007 at Nacogdoches Medical Center. She was born June 5, 1916 in Center to Herbert Hughes and Lillie Mae Turner Hughes. Mrs. Foster was an avid art lover. She painted oil still life, oil paintings of children and young people, and did wild bird woodcarvings.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, April 15, 2007 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. Interment will follow at Short Cemetery in Center.

Bobby Patrick Barbee, 53, of Shelbyville, passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2007. He was born April 12, 1953 in the Short Community of Shelby County to Archie Barbee and Faye Deason Barbee. Mr. Barbee was a member of Spann’s Chapel Missionary Baptist and the Texas Logging Council.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, April 13, 2007 at Watson & Sons Chapel in Center with Bro. Carrol Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Short Cemetery in Shelby County.

Martha Sue Crayne Billingsley, 73, of Tatum, was born January 7, 1934 in Prescott, Nevada Co., AR. to Charley Crayne and Lena Russell Crayne. She passed away April 7, 2007 in her home in Tatum after a lengthy illness. A Memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements for cremation are by East Texas Funeral Home of Longview. William “Billy” McNeese, age 77 of Huxley “Harvey’s Landing” passed away Monday April 9, 2007 at the V.A. Hospital in Shreveport, LA.

Services will be:
1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 12, 2007 at Mangum Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Gordon Vaughn officiating. Burial will follow at Wimberly Cemetery in Huxley.
Viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, family will have visitation from 5:00 pm until 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Mangum Funeral Home.

He was born December 11, 1929 in Dallas, Texas to parents, William Oscar McNeese and Irene Furlow McNeese who precede him in death. He was a butcher, baker and chef for many years in the Military and in the Dallas area. He owned and operated several restaurants in this area.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1948 until 1951. He is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret McNeese.

Mary Louise Griggs was born on June 6, 1921 in Waxahachie, Texas and died April 9, 2007 in Center, Texas. She married G.W. Griggs in 1946 and was a devoted Baptist preacher’s wife until his death in 2001. Until recently, she was active in her Sunday School and church at Neuville Baptist.

She is survived by three daughters, eight grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.

Oldest daughter Nancy and her husband Ronnie Perry live in Center. Their boys and their families are Ron, Alicia, and Connor from Waxahachie, Texas. Steven, Amanda, and Keeley from Ft. Worth, Texas. Tim Perry and Chris Perry are from Center, Texas.

Middle daughter Debra and her husband James Carroll live in Joaquin , Texas . Their sons are Clint and wife Deslyn from Whitehouse, Texas and Clayton from Joaquin.

Youngest daughter Cathy and her husband Charles Conway live in Center, Texas . Their daughters, and their families are Mindy, Matt and Preston Peveto from Houston, Texas. Laura, Wes and Bethany Kilpatrick from Nacogdoches, Texas.

Mrs. Griggs is survived by daughter-in-law LaVerne from Azle, Texas, two sister-in-laws, Geneva Esselman and Berta Lane Esselman from Waxahachie, Texas and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Gene and Norma Terry also from Waxahachie. She also has many nieces and nephews. One special niece is Marilyn Harris from Lorena , Texas and best friend and telephone buddy Mrs. Chris Waller from the Neuville Community.

Services will be held by Bro. Marion Huckaby at Mangum Funeral Home at 2:00 Wednesday, April 11, 2007. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 10, 2007 from 5:00 until 9:00. Interment will be at Oaklawn Memorial Park.

Kelly Dean Stockton, 59, passed away Monday April 2, 2007 in his home in Dallas, Texas. He was born April 14, 1947 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was a graduate of Cascia Hall and Tulsa University in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Kelly was in the outdoor advertising business for over 35 years and especially enjoyed his affiliation with Texas Stadium over the years. He was a true sports enthusiast and an avid golfer. Kelly was a member of Signature Athletic Club and considered himself a born Oklahoma Sooner! To say Kelly spearheaded all parties and events is an understatement. Socially and professionally, Kelly was fun loving and the life of the party. He was considered a “true giver” and played Santa Claus year round!

Visitation will be at Sparkman/Dickey Funeral Home in Dallas on Wednesday April 4, 2007 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Funeral Services will be Thursday, April 5, 2007 at Sparkman/Dickey Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 4:30 pm April 5, 2007 at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center, Texas.

Kelly is survived by his wife of sixteen years, Monette; furry children Bacardi and Taz; brothers Tommy and wife Cindy of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Danny and wife Carolyn of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; in-laws Montie and Deck Jones and Keith and Amanda Wagnon of Center, Texas and seven nieces and nephews.

Kelly is preceded in death by his parents Dean and Genevieve Stockton.

Sallie Young Parker, 95, of Center, passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2007 at Shelby Regional Medical Center. Sallie Garrett Young was born on November 11, 1911 in Marshall, the daughter of Robert Hall Young and Bertha Love Heartstill Young.

Mrs. Parker was the widow of Heber C. Parker who owned and operated Parker Brothers Motor Company for many years. She moved to San Augustine when she was four years old and graduated from San Augustine High School in 1928. She attended T.W.U., then Texas Wesleyan College in Fort Worth for one year and was on the tennis team. Mrs. Parker worked nine years for R.C. Downs of San Augustine, cotton buyer and president of First National Bank. On April 9, 1939 she married Heber C. Parked and moved to Center. Sallie & Heber were the parents of two children, Nancy Lynn, born in 1942, and James Perry “Jimmy”, born in 1944. Sallie was a member of First United Methodist Church; a member of United Methodist Women; past treasurer, member and past president of the Women’s Reading Club and a former member and president of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, April 2, 2007 at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center with Rev. Greg Megill officiating.

Leta Fleming Lansford, 86, of Center, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2007 at Pine Grove Nursing Home in Center. She was born August 24, 1920 in Center to James C. Fleming and Ollie Campbell Fleming. Ms. Lansford retired after working for many years in the dietary department at Shelby General and Memorial Hospital. She was of the Nazarene faith.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, April 3, 2007 at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center with Rev. Eugene Doan officiating.
