Nelva Bowers, age 73, of Lubbock, Texas, died Monday, October 29, 2007, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas. Graveside service will be at Dunn Cemetery at 2:00 PM Friday, November 2, 2007. Interment will be at Dunn Cemetery in Dunn, Texas, under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home, Snyder, Texas.

She was born October 12, 1934 at Center Texas to the late John Henry Allen and Lanora Ann (Squires) Allen. She was married to Charles Oscar Bowers on December 27, 1952. in Texas and he preceded her in death on November 13, 2000.

She is survived by her:

One daughter, Norma (Bowers) Hereford of Lubbock, Texas

One son, Charles R. Bowers of Spearman, Texas

Two Grandchildren: Cassie Marie Bowers of Spearman, Texas and Charles O. Hereford of Fort Drum, NY

W.B. “Buddy” Harrison, 84, of Tenaha, passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2007 in a Nacogdoches hospital. He was born March 11, 1923 in Tenaha to Wiley Braxton Harrison, Sr. and Maude Lee Corley Harrison. Mr. Harrison was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church in Tenaha. He was a member of the Sons of the Republic of Texas, a lifetime member of the Sandy Creek Hunting Club, and a member of the American Legion Post 520. He was a Yellow Dog Democrat.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, November 2, 2007 at the First United Methodist Church in Tenaha with Rev. Jim Bradley officiating. Interment will follow at Corley Harrison Cemetery in Tenaha. Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Thursday, November 1, 2007 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center.

Margaret R. Taylor, 75, of Center, passed away Monday, October 29, 2007 at Pine Grove Nursing Home in Center. She was born July 22, 1932 in Pennsylvania. Margaret was a member of South Oak Grove Assembly of God in Stanley, Louisiana.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, October 31, 2007 at Johnson Cemetery in Joaquin with Bro. Mike Rodgers officiating.

David Watts Prince was born in Nacogdoches, Texas on March 13, 1940 and died in Nacogdoches, Texas on October 27, 2007 after a long struggle with pulmonary fibrosis. He grew up in Center, Texas and graduated from Center High School in 1958. He was active in Boy Scouts and attained the ranks of Eagle Scout and the Silver Award in Explorer Scouts.

He received his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Texas in Austin. While there, he was an active member of APO, a service fraternity.

He studied architecture at the University of Houston and was a licensed professional architect. He worked for several Houston architectural firms before becoming Manager of Construction for Don Mullins Real Estate. From there, he started his own architectural and construction firm, Prince & Associates. In the early 1980’s, he co-founded Triarch Industries, a specialty paint manufacturer and was its president for fifteen years. He then went into a joint venture real estate development with Victor Botrie of Appaloosa Land Company before retiring to Nacogdoches from Houston.

David enjoyed inventing and building things, cooking gourmet meals, travel, and spending time with his family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Kathryn Prince of Center.

Alfredo Gonzalez, 55, of Tenaha, passed away Saturday, October 27, 2007 at Shelby Regional Medical Center. He was born March 8, 1952 in Guanajuato, Mexico to Pablo Gonzalez and Eufracia Morales Gonzalez. Mr. Gonzalez worked in maintenance at Ameritech in Center.

Rev. Kenneth Logsdon, 84 of Jewett, Ohio, died in Steubenville, Ohio on Wednesday, October 24, 2007 due to a lengthy heart condition.

Rev. Logsdon was a member of the Harrison Hills United Pentecostal Church in Jewett, Ohio, a member of the Hopedale American Legion; the NRA; and was an ordained minister with United Pentecostal Church International and began preaching in 1961. He was retired from GTE in 1978 after 28 years and served in the U.S. Navy, Pacific Theater during World War II. He was currently working at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz, Ohio.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Logsdon, with whom he celebrated 60 years of marriage on Friday prior to his death, 4 sons including Norman Logsdon and wife Susan of Center, 8 grandchildren including Landon Logsdon and Ashton Logsdon of Center, and 5 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Harrison Hills United Pentecostal Church with Rev. J. Hugh Rose officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Gardens Cemetery, Jewett, Ohio.

Vicky Lynn Williams, age 57, of Denton, Texas funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Friday, October 26, 2007 at Taylor Funeral Home Chapel, Timpson, Texas, with Bro. Sammy Eldredge officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Timpson, Texas.

Vicky passed away Monday, October 22nd in Denton, Texas.

Born in Denton, Texas on October 23, 1949, she was the daughter of Robert L. and Lena (Bogue) Williams. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Timpson and life member of Ladies Auxillary VFW Post 2205, Denton.

Survivors include her sisters Jean Mason of Denton, Texas and Julene Smith of Ballinger, Texas.

She was preceded in death by parents Robert and Lena Williams, nephew Mike Mason, and niece Cindy Lou Smith.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 25, 2007 from 6 until 8 PM at Taylor Funeral Home.

Rickey Warren, 49, of Logansport, La., funeral services will be Wednesday, October 24, 2007, at 10 AM in the Rose-Neath Logansport Chapel, Logansport, La. Burialwill follow at O.E.Price Cemetery, Logansport, La.

Mr. Warren was born in Center, Texas to the late Billie and June Warren on August 12, 1958 and passed away in Mansfield, La. on October 22, 2007. He was member of the DeSoto Fire District #1 where he was Asst. Fire Chief.

Mr. Warren leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 27 years, Lona Warren, son Joseph "Jody" Warren, and brother Billie R. Warren and wife Debora and a host of nieces and nephews.

Cecil R. Perrin, Jr., 56, of Joaquin, passed away Friday, October 19, 2007 at Overton Brooks Medical Center in Shreveport. He liked riding motorcycles, fishing, and listening to country and gospel music. As a member of Willow Grove Community Church, he loved his church and his Lord.

Per his wishes, Mr. Perrin has been cremated. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm, Saturday, October 27, 2007 at Willow Grove Community Church in Joaquin.

Ola Mae Harris, 98, of Center passed away Thursday, October 18, 2007 at Shelby Regional Medical Center. Ms. Harris was born December 23, 1908 in Logansport, Louisiana to Samuel Anderson and Zella Bell Stephens Anderson. She was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church.

J.A. “Alburn” Gray, 91, of Joaquin, passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2007 at a center nursing home. He was born June 22, 1916 to Johnnie Wesley Gray and Elvira Adams Gray. Mr. Gray owned Gray’s Jot ‘Em Down Store. He was a member of Joaquin Masonic Lodge #856 and the Joaquin Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mr. Gray was a member of Lone Cedar Missionary Baptist Church.

Mary Alice Smithhart Chevalier, age 77 of Joaquin passed away Saturday in Palestine.

Mary Alice Smithhart Chevalier was born November 3, 1929 to Auzy Willard Smithhart and Berth Cox Smithhart. Ms. Chevalier was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Joaquin and also a member of the Daughters American Revolution.

Services will be held 10 AM, Tuesday, October 16, 2007 at the First United Methodist Church in Joaquin with Rev. Randy Smith officiating interment will follow at the Johnson Cemetery.

Ms. Chevalier is survived by: Daughters: Denise Ray and husband, Don of Palestine and Donna Chevalier of Longmont, Colorado.
Son: Steve Chevalier of Joaquin.
14 Grandchildren and 11 Great Grandchildren.
Brothers: Bob Smithhart and wife Marilyn of Nacogdoches and A.W.(Teeny) Smithhart of Kilgore.

Ms. Chevalier was preceded in death by: Husband: Robert Aubrey Chevalier and Sons: Joseph Aubrey Chevalier and Robert David Chevailer.

Pallbearers will be: Chris Sprayberry, Dwayne Ray, Dan Jones, Robert Chevalie, Brian Gage, Joe Ray, Jeff Chevailer and Fasill Chevailer Kousiotas, John Austin Chevalier and Ethan Chevalier.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Glenn Oates, Rickey Smith, Herschel Thomas and Martin Jetton.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 PM Monday, October 15, 2007 at Watson and Sons Funeral Home.

Sandra Bacon Trala, age 63, of Timpson, Texas, services will be held 3 PM, Sunday, October 14, 2007, at Woodlawn Christian Church., Timpson. Officiating will be Fred Bacon and Bro. Roy Platt with interment to follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Timpson. Mrs. Trala passed away in Houston, Texas, October 10, 2007. She was born in Palestine, Texas, on March 9, 1944, the daughter of the late Fred and Marguerite (Douthit) Bacon.

Sandra was raised in Palestine, Texas and graduated from Palestine High School. She attended Dallas Christian College where she met Butch Trala, and they married on November 09, 1963 in Palestine. Butch and Sandra moved to Timpson in 1971 and were charter memebers of Woodlawn Chirtian Church. Sandra served her church as youth director, church pianist, was actively involved in Women's Ministries, and started Angel Food Ministry. She loved floral arranging and crafts, but most of all she loved being "Granny".

Survivors include: husband William "Butch" Trala of Timpson; son Stanley Trala of Timpson; daughters Tammy T. Sparks and husband Tommy of Timpson and Tersa T. Burns and husband Larry of Timpson; brother Jerry F. Bacon and wife Martha of Dallas; sisters Shirley B. Vannoy and husband George of Livingston and Barbara B. Solieau and husband Robley of Palestine, 5 grandchildren; Kimberlee Sparks Gaona and husband Lupe, Jason Bridges Sparks, Elizabeth Kaye Burns, Allison Marguerite Burns and Halie Grace Burns.

Mrs. Trala was preceded in death by her parents and brother Bobby Earl Bacon.

Pallbearers are Jason Sparks, Lupe Gaona, Conner Lies, Steven Soileau, Brian Soileau and Jeremy Soileau. Honorary pallbearers are Tommy Sparks, Larry Burns, Paul David Trala, Bill Mohr, Khris Mohr and George Weaver.

Eloy McDonald, 76, of Garrison, services will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the First Assembly of God Chuch in Timpson, Texas on Saturday, October 13, 2007. Interment will follow at Cold Springs Cemetery in Garrison. Visitation will be held from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Friday, October 12, 2007 at Garrison Funeral Home.

Mr. McDonald passed away on Wednesday, October 10, 2007 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

He was born on November 1, 1930 in Garrison, Texas to Ollie Dee McDonald and Maude Smith McDonald. He had been a member of First Assembly of God in Timpson since 1945. He owned and operated Eloy’s Miscellaneous Sales and was a self -employed logging contractor.

Roy Crain, 61,of Center, passed away Wednesday October 10, 2007 at Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday October 13, 2007 at Mangum Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Charles Boster officiating. The family will receive friends starting at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel until service time. His wishes were to be cremated.

He was born August 25, 1946 to Garlon Roy and Clara Mae (Aydelott) Crain. He was a retired Register Nurse and Paramedic. He worked in Center for the hospital as well as several local ambulance services, & nursing homes. He attended the Lone Star Baptist Church.

Judge Lenard M. Anstead, 95, Athens, formerly of Tenaha, died Saturday, September 29, 2007 in Athens.

He was born June 19, 1912 in Hillsboro to the late Wiley Henry, Sr. and Ollie Elizabeth Stoker Anstead. In 1914 Lenard moved to Crosby County with his parents.

He graduated from Ralls High School in 1932, and was a long time member and deacon of First Baptist Church. Ansteads business interest in Ralls included owning and operating service stations, a Western Auto Store and co-owner of the Dodge & Plymouth dealership with his late brother J.R. Anstead.

After a six year residency in Kerrville where he owned and operated a tourist court, Lenard moved to Tenaha, the birthplace of his late wife Autrie Peddy Anstead.

Judge Anstead served as Justice of the Peace for Shelby County Precinct 4 for 15 years and Municipal Judge for the City of Tenaha 16 years. He was a member of Tenaha Business Men’s Club and was recipient of their Citizen of the Year Award in 1987. In 2003 he was honored with the Community Builders Award by the Tenaha Masonic Lodge No. 737 A.F. & A.M. He was recognized for 34 years of loving devotion and ministry as a deacon of First Baptist Church, Tenaha. He formerly served as a City Councilman for Tenaha and was active in the local chapter of AARP. He moved to Athens in 2006 to be near his children.

Survivors include a son, Lenard W. Anstead, Athens, daughter, Jan Brown and husband Bobby, Wylie, grandson, Chad Brown, Grand Prairie, great granddaughter, Lexi Brown, Grand Prairie, brothers, Ulric Anstead, Abilene, Wiley H. Anstead, Jr., Ralls, sister, Oleta B. Lorenzen, Ralls, three nephews, five nieces and a host of friends.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 2, 2007 at First Baptist Church, Tenaha with Rev. Russ Atwood officiating. Burial will follow at Ramah Cemetery under the direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home of Athens.

Family will receive friends from noon until services time.

Billy Banks Samford, 74, of Tenaha, passed away Sunday, September 30, 2007 at a Longview hospital. He was born May 12, 1933 in Shelbyville to Duke Perkins Samford and Annie Mae Pratt DeJohn Samford. Mr. Samford served in the US Army from 1954-1956. He was a life member of the D.A.V., and attended Ramah Missionary Baptist Church.
