Funeral services for Stacy Allen Clepper, 46, of Timpson, TX, were held Saturday, December 26, 2008, at 2:00 PM in Taylor Funeral Home, Timpson, with Bro Leroy Bowley officiating. Graveside service will be at 1:00 PM, Monday, December 29, in Field Store Cemetery, Waller, TX. Mr. Clepper passed away December 23, 2008, in Nacogdoches, Texas.

Stacy was born in Pasadena, Texas on October 30, 1962, the son of Delbert Gene Clepper and Dena Clepper Bradshaw. He was a heavy equipment operator for Courtney Construction.

Stacy is survived by his wife, Angela Clepper; father, Delbert Gene Clepper and wife Pat of Timpson; mother, Dena Bradshaw and husband W.L. of Canton, Texas; a daughter, Emily Brooke McCrary of Nacogdoches, Texas; two sons Jason Blake Clepper of Laredo, Texas, Luke Elliott Clepper of Nacogdoches, Texas; a stepson, Jacob Aaron Tarpley of Centerville, Texas; two sisters, Shelley Richey of Round Top, Texas, Susan Wassermann of Brenham, Texas; two brothers, Edward Gene Clepper of Timpson, Texas, Cody Ellison of Dallas, Texas; a step sister, Toni Jackson of Center, Texas; a step brother, Doye Wayne Cantrell of Timpson, Texas; his grandmother, Marie Izard f Waller, Texas.

He is preceded by a son, Derrick Allen Clepper and stepsister Lisa Cantrell.


Verlene Sumstine, 87, of Center, passed away Monday December 29, 2008 at Shelby Regional Medical Center.

Graveside Service will be 4:00 p.m. Wednesday December 31, 2008 at White Rock Cemetery with Bro. Ed McRae officiating.
No visitation is planned at this time.

She was born October 20, 1921 to George Walter and Samantha (Renfro) Hendricks.

Margie Crawford, 86, of Center, passed away Monday, December 29, 2008 at Green Acres Nursing Center. She was born July 4, 1922 in Panola County to Bertis Stoker and Zeffie Springer Stoker. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW. Ms. Crawford loved to garden, knit and fish.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Tuesday, December 30 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, December 31 at Oaklawn Memorial Park with Rev. Greg Megill.

Edna V. Andrews, age 89 of Keatchie, LA, formerly of Huxley, passed away Monday, Dec. 29, 2008 in Shreveport, LA.

J.D. Windham, 66, of Glendale, AZ., passed away December 4, 2008 at his home following a 19 month struggle with cancer.

Born December 30, 1941 in Center, Texas to P.R. and Ruby (Jordon) Windham, who preceded him as well as 2 sisters.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968. J.D. spent the majority of his working years driving trucks out of the Houston area. Moving to Arizona in the early 1980's and ending with his retirement from the U.S. Postal Service in 2004. J.D. had a passion for the excitement of a wager of any nature, either from raising and racing thoroughbreds, to a sports pool or a casino excursion, all of the above were shared and enjoyed by many friends and co workers.

J.D. is survived by his wife Betty; 5 children: Jason (Micaela) Special Granddaughter Alyssa, Phoenix;

Rick and family, Houston, Tx.
Kim Delaney and family, Las Vegas, NV.

Memorial services for J.D. were held at 11: am Saturday, December 13 at Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary, 7924 N. 59th Ave, Glendale, AZ.

There will be a memorial service on Tuesday, December 30 at 11:00 AM, at North Jericho cemetery in Center.

The family request no flowers, but memorials can be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ. 85014 or the American Cancer Society.

Thomas Lymn, age 83 of Center passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2008 at his home in the Neuville Community.

Services will be 10:00 am, Saturday, December 27, 2008 at Mangum Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Cliff Hughes officiating. Burial will follow at McClelland Cemetery in Shelbyville with Military Graveside Service under the direction of the Local VFW Post 8904.

Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Friday, December 26, 2008 at Mangum Funeral Home.

He was born May 24, 1925 in New York City to Parents, Thomas Lymn, Sr. and Elizabeth Ann Moffett Lymn.

He was a Submarine Sailor and served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Croaker. He was an Electrical Engineer and worked for Sheffield Steel in Houston for 15 years. He also worked for Holly Farms – Tyson for 18 years. He was a member of McClelland Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his Parents, Thomas & Ann Lymn, infant Daughter, and Brother, John Lymn.

Robert Harlon Wagstaff, 88, of Bronson died December 23, 2008, in Newton, Texas. He was born October 9, 1920, in Shelby County to Richard and Pearl Permenter Wagstaff, the seventy of nine children. He had been a resident of Sabine County for forty-one years.

Robert attended various schools in Shelby County and graduated from Tenaha High School in 1939. He immediately enrolled at Stephen F. Austin State Teachers College. On November 4, 1942, he volunteered for the Army Air Corps. He trained in Las Vegas at AAF Gunnery School (Spec Sperry Turrets). He was assigned as a tail gunner on a B26 Martin Marauder and flew 56 missions over Europe from bases in England, France and Belgium. He attained the rank of Staff Sgt. and was discharged on July 7, 1945. IN the fall of 1945, he returned to Stephen F. Austin and earned his degree.

He worked 39 years as a teacher, coach and administrator in the public schools of Texas. He was employed by Brazosport ISD in Freeport for 11 years, Lufkin ISD for 10 years and West Sabine ISD for 18 years. During his tenure at Brazosport, he earned his Master’s Degree from the University of Houston. He retired as superintendent at West Sabine ISD in 1985.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Bettye Bragg Wagstaff of Bronson, daughter Lou Ann Wagstaff of Whitehouse, a granddaughter Cory and her husband Rob Blackmon, great grandchildren Caylor Brynn Balckmon, Brock Wagstaff Blackmon and Tyler Robert Blackmon all of Brownsboro, TX, a sister Neta Hanna of Jacksonville, brothers-in-law Winfred Wright of Port Neches and Hollis McMullen of Quitman, TX and many nieces and nephews.

Robert was preceded in death by his son, Jon Robert Wagstaff.

Visitation will be from 5:00PM until 8:00PM in the Starr Funeral Home, 510 Starr St, Hemphill, TX.

Funeral services will be at 11:00AM, Saturday, December 27, 2008, in the Starr funeral Home chapel with Bro. Gene Samford officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery in Center, TX.

Harold Loyd McDonald, age 84 of Center, passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2008 in Shreveport, LA.

Services will be 2 pm, Sunday, December 28, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church in Center with Rev. Greg Megill officiating. Military graveside service will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center under the direction of the VFW post 8904. Visitation will be Saturday evening from 4 pm until 8 pm at Mangum Funeral Home.
He was born October 2, 1924 in Burleson, Texas to Father, J. D. McDonald & Mother, Bessie Garrettt McDonald.

He graduated from Burleson High School and Texas Wesleyan College in Fort Worth. He served in the United States Navy during WW II in the Asia, Pacific Theatre as a Lieutenant JG. He was officer in charge LCT 816.

After his military service and graduation, he went to work for Universal Mills in Fort Worth, Texas. In 1954 he and his family moved to Center, Texas for Universal Mills and set up Red Chain Feed. In 1956 he purchased Red Chain Feed which later became Southern Broilers. He was proud to be part of the group of entrepreneurs and friends who pioneered and developed the poultry business in East Texas. He loved fishing, hunting, and picking the guitar and singing with his friends. He was active working with Boy Scouts and Explorer Scouts in Center with his sons and many other boys. He taught Sunday School and lead MYF at the First Methodist Church in Center for many years. Also he was a Lay speaker & leader at the church. He was past President of the Center Chamber of Commerce, member of the Center Lions Club and a Mason. He also was a member of the original Center Hunting Club. In raising his boys he instilled in them responsibility and hard work ethics. He was a firm believer in education and assured that his boys were educated. He always told his family that he loved them.

He is preceded in death by wife of 57 years, Alice Marie Moss McDonald and Son, Mark McDonald.

Shikimi "Kim" Stone, age 77, of Huxley passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2008 at her residence. She was born March 26, 1931 in Nagasaki Province of Japan. She was the second daughter of seven children. Mrs. Stone was a homemaker.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, Sunday, December 28, 2008 at Watson & Sons Chapel in Center.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, December 29, 2008 at Wimberly Chapel with Rev. Jack Forbis officiating. Interment will follow at Wimberly Cemetery in Shelby County.

Michael Jones, age 61 of Center, passed away Monday, December 22, 2008 at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital. He was born September 29, 1947 in Freeport to William Bryan Jones and Martha Cleo Hortman Jones. Mike was a branch manager for Dealer's Electrical in Lufkin. He served in the Army during Vietnam and was of the Baptist faith.

Visitation will be held from 5 PM to 8 PM, Monday, December 22 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Tuesday, December 23, at Watson & Sons Chapel. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park.

Mrs. Frankie Lee (Braley) Beard, 80, of Livingston, Texas services will be at 1:00 PM, Monday, December 22, 2008, in Taylor Funeral Home Chapel, Timpson.
Interment will follow in Cold Springs Cemetery, Garrison. Mrs. Beard passed away December 19, 2008, in Livingston, Texas.

Born in Hugo, Oklahoma, on May 21, 1928, Frankie was the daughter of the late Ernest and Grace (Carriger) Stevens. She was a graduate of Joaquin High School and was married to E.F. "Red" Beard Jr. on December 7, 1950.

Survivors include one son Ernest F. Beard III, of Splendora, Texas and 5 daughters, Kay Hall of Houston, Jean Salazar and husband John of Livingston, Mary Colvin and husband Ted of Livingston, Martha Beard and husband Randy of Dayton, Texas and Donna Robbins and husband Rick of Livingston. She is also survived by 9 Grandchildren: Miles Hall, Brian Blevens, Jennifer Salazar, John Salazar, Amanda Colvin, Jason Butts, Valerie Faulkner and Kobe Faulkner.

In addition to her parents, Frankie was preceded in death by husband E.F. "Red" Beard Jr. on September 03, 2004.

Visitation will begin at 9 AM on Monday, December 22, and continue until service time at 1 PM.

E.C. “Dock” Luman, 85, of Center, passed away December 20, 2008 at Green Acres Nursing Home.

Graveside Service 1:00 p.m. Sunday December 21, 2008 at Mt. Herman Cemetery. No Visitation is planned.

He was born January 16, 1923 to Joseph and Emma (Dixon) Luman. He served in the US Army Air Corps in England during WWII. He was awarded the GC, ETO, ATO, Victory and the Presidential Citation Ribbons. He previously resided at Bill’s Landing in Huxley where he made perch traps and sold them and continued doing this when he entered the nursing home. He had a passion for fishing and hunting.

Jimmy Wesley Metcalf, 68, of Center, passed away Friday, December 19, 2008 at Shelby Regional Medical Center.

Services will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, December 22, 2008 at Mangum Funeral Home Chapel with Masonic Services following at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Duncan Cemetery in Shelbyville. Visitation will be Sunday, December 21, 2008 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Mangum Funeral Home.

He was born July 17, 1940 in Longview to Albert W. and Mable Lengthy (Gary) Metcalf. He served in the US Marines. He graduated from Center High School in 1959. He worked for Brault Auto Paint and Supply. He was a member of the Sam Houston Masonic Lodge #32 in Shelbyville.

Pallbearers will be members of the Sam Houston Masonic Lodge #32 in Shelbyville.

James E. “Flip” Hagler, 83, of Shelbyville, passed away Wednesday December 17, 2008 at his home.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday December 20, 2008 at Mangum Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Marion Huckaby and Bro. Pat Windham officiating. A Masonic Service will follow in the chapel. Burial will follow at Antioch Cemetery in San Augustine County. Visitation will be Friday December 19, 2008 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Mangum Funeral Home.

He was born January 8, 1925 in Center to Oliver and Emma Mae (Askew) Hagler. He served in the US Army during WWII. He was a carpenter in Shelby County for many years and he was a member of Palastine Church of Christ. Also he was a Life Endowed Member of the Shelbyville Sam Houston Lodge #32.

Pallbearers will be members of the Sam Houston Masonic Lodge #32.

Hersel Anthony, 86, of Vinton, Louisiana, passed away Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at the Memorial Hermann Baptist Orange Hospital. Funeral services will be at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, December 13, 2008 in the Chapel of Dorman Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be Hank Perkins, chaplain of the Veterans of Foreign War Post #2775 in Orange. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in Orange with Military Honors to be provided by the United States Army Honor Guard of Fort Polk, Louisiana. A gathering of family and friends will be from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.

Born on June 29, 1922 in Center, Texas to Simion and Eva Anthony, he moved to Orange after being honorably discharged from the United States Army in 1945 while serving during World War II, he then moved to Vinton, Louisiana in 1968 and remained there until his passing. The last of seven children, he enjoyed playing basketball as a young man and enjoyed watching baseball. Mr. Anthony worked for and retired from the Levingston Shipbuilding Company in Orange as an attendant in the tool room.

Preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Eula Bell Willis and his brothers, Louis Anthony, J. M. Anthony, Buck Anthony and John Anthony, those who will most cherish his memory are his loving wife of 65 years, Lillian (Hughes) Anthony of Vinton; his daughters, Dianne McKinney and her husband Richard of Orange and Sharron Ann Hickman and her husband Hollis of Orange; her grandsons, Jason Dean Ramsey and his wife Sharon of Apple Valley, Minnesota and Jeremy David Ramsey and wife Stephanie of Vinton; three great-grandchildren, Stormi Ramsey, Hannah Esponge and Sydney Ramsey.

Temple Olenick, age 90 of Joaquin passed away Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008.

She was born July 14, 1918 in Joaquin, Texas to Parents, Rev. Richard & Primrose (Cockrell) Bazer and she passed away peacefully at her home after a lengthy illness. She will be remembered for her wit, humor and love.

She was a Registered Nurse for many years and worked for Jasper Home Health, Mansfield Hospital, and St. Patricks Hospital in Lake Charles, La. After retirement she worked summers for Crystal Lake in Joaquin. She was a member of First Baptist Church Joaquin.

Richard Abner Whiddon, age 71, of Hideaway services are scheduled for 10 AM, Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at Hadeaway Lake Community Church. Richard Abner Whiddon, died on December 6 at his home in Hidaway surrounded by family and friends. He was born on December 31, 1936 and raised in Joaquin, Texas. He attended Stephen F. Austin College before entering the Army and serving three years. Because of his unique love of people, he was very successful in his life's career of insurance sales, training and management. He retired to Hideawy in 2000. He was active in the community with extra focus on the goals of the Hideaway Kiwanis Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents Cynthia Cockrell and Orren Cox Whiddon and son Allen Whiddon. A native of Shelbyville, TX., he has lived in Vidor since 1961, and was a retired machinist after 33 years with Ideco. Cecil served his country in the United States Army. Graveside services will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 6, 2008 at Del-Rose Cemetery in Vidor under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor. Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, December 5, 2008 at Memorial Funeral Home. Cecil is survived by his son Cecil W. Chambliss of Mauriceville, and James M. Mrs. Fitzgerald was born Jan. 26, 1942, in Texarkana, Texas, as a daughter of the late Carmen Fussell and Maxine (Mettauer) Fussell. She had worked as a bookkeeper in the grocery business for 30 years and was a member of the Baptist church.

Marvye “Lucy” Goodson Leggett, 74, of Shelbyville, passed away Sunday, November 30, 2008 at her home. She was born August 26, 1934 in Shelby County to Robert Cliff Goodson and Wilma Jane Yates Goodson.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, December 5 at Watson & Sons Chapel in Center with Rev. Edward McRae officiating. Interment will follow at Carroll Cemetery in Shelby County.
