Eula Frazier Haden: Graveside service for Eula Haden, age 98, of Timpson, Texas, will be at 10 AM, Saturday, November 1, 2008, in Weaver Cemetery, Timpson, with Bro. Douglas McDonald officiating. Mrs. Haden passed away October 30, 2008 in Center, Texas.

Born in Timpson, Texas, on October 22, 1910, Eula Frazier Haden was the daughter of the late Ike and Pearl(Culbertson) Frazier. She married C.D. "Moxie" Haden, and he preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and member of Highway Tabernacle.

Survivors include daughter Anne Haden Conway of Timpson, granddaughter Cheyanne Davis and husband Matt of Nacogdoches and great grandson Kainehn Davis. In addition to her parents and husband Moxie, she was preceded in death by 4 sisters and 2 brothers.

Taylor Funeral Home, Timpson is in charge of arrangements.


Ira Joe "Bert" Cartwright Lathan was born to the late Mae Cartwright and Elray "Joe" Lathan on May 13, 1966. He departed on October 26, 2008. He was a 1983 graduate of Shelbyville High School and a life long "shade tree" mechanic.

Services will be Saturday, November 1, 2008 at 11 AM at Bennett Chapel.

Carlos Byron Billingsley: Funeral services for Carlos Byron Billingsley, age 72, of Timpson, Texas will be at 2 PM, Friday, October 31, 2008, in Taylor Funeral Home Chapel, Timpson, with Bro. Dwayne Sowell officiating. Interment will follow in Shady Grove Cemetery, Timpson. Mr. Billingsley passed away October 30, 2008, surrounded by his family at his home in Timpson.

Born March 1, 1936, in Timpson, Carlos Byron Billingsley was the son of the late James Robert and Zella (Ramsey) Billingsley. He and Gwen hudson were married in the Wedgeworth Community of Shelby County on May 14, 1956. Byron worked as a mechanic for Brown & Root, Southern Pacific Railroad and CAPCO. He was a member of Timpson Church of Christ and trustee for Shady Grove Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife Gwen Hudson Billingsley of Timpson; daughter Beth Andrews and husband Pete of Timpson; sister Nina Ruth Hughes of Center, Texas; 2 grandchildren: Dana and Kylie Andrews of Timpson. In addition to his parents, Byron was preceded in death by his brother, Kenny Billinglsey.

Visitation will be Thursday, October 30, 6-8 PM at Taylor Funeral Home.

Vernon Wayne Johnson:
Services for Vernon Wayne Johnson, age 56, of Bullard, will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 1, 2008 in the chapel of Stewart Family Funeral Home with Neil McClendon and James Palmer officiating. Burial will follow at Bullard Cemetery in Bullard under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.

Mr. Johnson passed away on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at his home in Bullard. He was born on December 10, 1951 in Lufkin to Vernon and Georgia Johnson.
He attended Bethany College in Bethany, Oklahoma and graduated in 1972 from Nazarene Church Seminary in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Mr. Johnson was a certified Insurance Agent and worked for Sterling/AON Insurance Company as a salesman and then manager for five years. For four years, he was named Top Market Manager of Sterling Insurance and was a Round Table member for three consecutive years.

Mr. Johnson was a member of First Baptist Church in Neches and served as director of music.

Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by a brother, Dennis Ray Johnson.

He is survived by a loving family including his wife, Toni Johnson of Bullard; his parents, Vernon and Georgia Johnson of Stuart, Virginia; a son, Jeffrey Wayne Johnson and wife Wendy of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; two daughters, Nicole Clark and husband Chant, Natalie Jones and husband Brad, both of Center; a step-daughter, Tina Hardaway of Houston; two sisters, Branita (Pug) Beeson and husband Leon of Temple and Donna Kay Zabodyn and husband Jeff of Elon, North Carolina; a brother, Rodney Glen Johnson and wife Sherry of Burlington, North Carolina; sister-in-law, Robbie Johnson of Houston; grandchildren Cayden Johnson, Cole Clark, Christian Clark, Brook Sadler, Britney Sadler, Whitney Harrod, Kennedie Smith, and Breanna Jones; and nephews Lloyd Baldridge of Austin and Jeffery Zabodyn of Elon, North Carolina.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Oliver, Jimmy Batchelor, Jerry Smitherton, Todd Thoene, John Lageman, J.D. Hart, and Dan Bridges. Honorary pallbearers will be the male employees of Sterling Insurance.

Visitation is scheduled from 5:30-8:00 PM on Friday, October 31, 2008 at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, in Tyler.

Sharon Cockrell, 64, of Center, passed away Wednesday October 29, 2008 at Pine Grove Nursing Home.

Graveside Service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday October 31, 2008 at Ramah Cemetery in Tenaha with Chaplain Kathy Norrid officiating. Visitation will be Friday October 31, 2008 at Mangum Funeral Home from 9:00 a.m. until service.

She was born March 25, 1944 to Leonard Leslie Hicks Sr. and Uzetta May Culbert. She was of the Baptist faith.

Robbie (Jean) Mason, age 74, of Denton, Texas funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, November 1, 2008, in Taylor Funeral Home Chapel, Timpson, with Bro. Sammy Eldredge officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Timpson. Mrs. Mason passed away on October 29, 2008, in Denton, Texas.

Born August 10, 1934, in Timpson, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Robert L. and Lena (Bogue) Williams. She attended Denton Lab School and on January 5, 1953, she married Bob Mason in Decatur, Texas. She was co-owner of Bob Mason Service Station and a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband, Bob Mason of Denton, daughter, Delia Mason Weiss and husband Richard of Plano, sister-in-law, Molena Carson and husband Charles, nieces, Linda Schertz and husband Terrry, Cecile Carson, Betty Sue Cowsert and husband Gulley, Belinda Castillo and husband Robert, nephew, Tom Carson and wife Shelley, and a large number of great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by son, Mike Mason, 2 sisters, Julene Smith and Vicky Lynn Williams and brother, Gilbert Ray Williams.

Visitation will be Saturday, November 01, from 12:00 noon until service time at 2 PM.

Johnnie Everett Courmier, age 37 of Center, passed away early Sunday morning at Shelby Regional Hospital. Johnnie was a member of the Center Bible Fellowship.

Services will be held 2 PM, Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at Watson & Sons Chapel with Rev. Ron Luman officiating. Interment will be in the Lone Cedar Cemetery in Center.

Allen Joe Hicks, Funeral services for Mr. Allen Joe Hicks, age 51 of Carthage Texas, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Steven Hill officiating. Interment will follow in Old Prospect Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Mr. Hicks passed away on Sunday morning, October 26, 2008, in Tyler.

Allen Joe Hicks was born on April 27, 1957, in Dallas, Texas, the second son born to the marriage of A. J. and Jo Ann Johnson Hicks. He attended Carthage schools. He married Belinda Sheffer on July 3, 1982, in Marshall. In the late seventies and early eighties, Allen Joe worked for Carthage Muffler and Tire. In 1985, he established Allen Joe’s Muffler and Wrecker Service. For the past twelve years, he and his wife have owned the Corner Café in Deadwood and also Allen Joe and Sons Portable Buildings. Mr. Hicks was a member and past president of the Sons of the American Legion. He loved the outdoors, camping, hunting, and fishing. He lived most of his life in the Carthage area, was of the Baptist faith, and was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church. Allen Joe was a hard worker who loved his family dearly. He fought a hard battle with cancer for nearly two years. He was preceded in death by his father; two brothers, David Ray Hicks and Robert Lee Hicks; and one uncle, Bobby Wayne Johnson.

Mr. Hicks is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Belinda Sue Hicks of Carthage; mother, Jo Ann Hicks of Carthage; two sons, Aaron Hicks and wife Bobbie of Carthage and Allen Joe Hicks, Jr. and wife Shannon of Chapel Hill; one daughter, Lisa Kay Brinkman and husband Chris of Carthage; two brothers, Thomas Dale Hicks and wife Rebecca Kaye and Mark Hicks and wife Jamie all of Carthage; four grandchildren, Shelby Chevelle Meshelle, Maranda Katelynn Meshelle, Emilee Grace Hicks, and Bailee Madison Hicks; and three step-grandchildren, Trevor Yaste, and Hunter and Austin Burney; one uncle Vernon Johnson of Dallas; mother-in-law, Vida Decker of Greenwood; four sisters-in-law, Sharon Gunstream of Shreveport, Vickie Carter of Marshall, Lisa Spraberry and husband Terry of Marshall, and Johnette Decker of Greenwood; and two special life long friends, Larry Joe Davis and Charles Whitley. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends also survive Mr. Hicks.

Alice Clark Johnson, age 95, of Center, Texas, services will be at 10:30 AM, Saturday, October 25, 2008, in Taylor Funeral Home Chapel, Timpson, with Rev. Gordon Vaughn officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Shelby County, Texas. Mrs. Johnson passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2008 in Nacogdoches Medical Center.

Born November 29, 1912 in the Huber Community of Shelby County, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Cossie Lee and Cynthia Della (Ramsey) Clark. She was married to Hoyle Johnson who preceded her in death in 1968. Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker and member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include one sister, Marie Humphries and husband Jamses of Center, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Alice Johnson was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 4 sisters.

Mrs. Alva Harris Ingram, age 95 of the Woods Community in Panola County, Texas, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 24, 2008, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jessie Harris officiating. Interment will follow in Woods Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Mrs. Ingram passed away on Monday night, October 20, 2008, at her home in the Woods Community.

Alva Harris Ingram was born on January 18, 1913, in Beckville, Texas, the last of nine children born to Alford and Elizabeth Shaw Harris. Mrs. Ingram graduated from Beckville High School with the class of 1931. She married Wallace Vincent Ingram on January 2, 1933, in Beckville, Texas and together they celebrated 52 years of marriage before his death on March 27, 1985. Mrs. Ingram lived all of her life in Panola County and was a member of Woods United Methodist Church. She was also preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, Reverend Edward James Harris, Matthew Harris, Reverend Chester Eugene Harris, Dallas D. Harris, Willie Gay Harris, and Odus Joseph Harris; and two sisters, Tommie Pearl Harris and Ettie Bell Harris.

Mrs. Ingram is survived by two sons, Don V. Ingram and wife Julie of Dallas, Texas and Steve B. Ingram and wife Alice of Longview, Texas; five grandchildren, Alice Ingram Mattox and husband Michael of Little Rock, Arkansas, Tiffany J. Ingram of Austin, Texas, Brandyce Ann Ingram of Los Angeles, California, Stephen B. Ingram, Jr. of Brea, California, and Suzanne Ingram Lizza and husband Allen of Longview, Texas; and two great-granddaughters, Ali Ingram Mattox of Little Rock, Arkansas and Ashley Nicole Lizza of Longview, Texas. Dorothy Palmer, age 88 of Center, passed away Monday Oct. 20, 2008 at her home in Center. Services will be 10:00 am ~ Friday Oct. 24, 2008 at St. Therese Catholic Church in Center.Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Spc. Cory Joseph Bertrand, 18 of Center, passed away Tuesday, October 14, 2008 while serving in the U.S. Army in Qazi Bandeh, Afghanistan during his tour of duty.

Services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday October 23, 2008 at Mangum Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Charles Boster officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville with full military honors.
Visitation will be Wednesday afternoon at Mangum Funeral Home.

He was born November 15, 1989 in Opelousas, LA. He joined the military in January 2007. He was a member of the 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division; assigned to Fort Hood. Spc. Bertrand was awarded numerous medals and ribbons, among them are the Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Global War of Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, NATO, the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart

Born in Lufkin, Texas on July 2, 1919, Glaython Bussey was the daughter of the late Thomas Elmer and Eula(Bussey) Galbreath. She was married to Zannie Lee Bussey, and he preceded her in death on February 25, 1976. She was a homemaker and member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Timpson.

Glaython is survived by two daughters, Loretta Tolar and Janet Wagstaff, both of Elkhart, Texas.

She is survived by 5 Grandchildren: Darren Bush, Kevin Bush, Jodi Wages and husband Jeremy, Cheryle Nitsch adn Jay Wagstaff.

Douglas Wayne Smith, 66, of Center, passed away October 15, 2008 at his home. He was born December 7, 1941 in Shelby County to Homer E. Smith and Velma O. Luman Smith. Douglas was a 1965 graduate of Texas A&M, and was a member of Providence Baptist Church.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Thursday, October 16 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, October 17 at Watson & Sons Chapel with Bro. Mervin Scott and Bro. Don Moore officiating. Interment will follow at Old Salem Cemetery.

Bruce Martin, 61, of Shelbyville, passed away Monday October 13, 2008 at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler.

Services will be 4:00 p.m. Thursday October 16, 2008 at Mangum Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Billy Windham, Bro. Jamie Lindley, Bro. Robert Lindley and Bro. B.J. Windham officiating. He was born August 25, 1947 to Quillon Oswell Martin and Lessie (Bridges) Martin. He was a member of the New Harmony Missionary Baptist Church of Shelbyville, he was a member of the Shelbyville Volunteer Fire Department and he was also a member of the Shelbyville Masonic Lodge. He was employed at Shelbyville ISD. He was a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his Parents, Ouillon and Lessie (Bridges) Martin and his Brother-in-law, Tommy Hardy.

Georgia Rebecca "Becky" Wimberly Kelly, of Houston, Texas passed away October 6, 2008. Becky was born August 30, 1944, to Alva and Rachel Wimberly. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all she met; she was a beloved educator for over 30 years.

Otis O. Sanders, Sr., 85, of Center, passed away Monday, October 6, 2008 at Shelby Regional Medical Center. He was born September 26, 1923 in Longville, Louisiana to Sam Sanders and Ruby Earl Miller Sanders. Otis proudly served his country during WWII, the Korean War and two tours in Vietnam. He retired as a master Chief Petty Officer and was a lifetime member of the VFW.

As per his request, Mr. Sanders has been cremated. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, October 9 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center.
