Joseph Bradford Bush, 21, of Tenaha, passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2011 in Center. He was born November 20, 1989 in Nacogdoches, TX to Maria Bush and James Bradford Bush. Joseph attended Center Missionary Baptist Church.

Visitation will be held from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, Friday, July 1, 2011 at Watson and Sons Funeral Home in Center. Funeral services will be held at 9am Saturday, July 2, 2011 at Watson and Sons Funeral Home in Center with Bro. Pat Windham officiating. Interment will follow at Sowell Cemetery in San Augustine County.

Willard Howard Parkman, 92 of Tenaha, passed away Monday, June 27, 2011 at his residence.

A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday July 10, 2010 at First Baptist Church in Tenaha.

He was born June 24, 1919 in Shelby County to Howard and Ruth (Hill) Parkman. He is preceded in death by his Parents, Howard and Ruth Parkman and Sister, Virginia Burns.

Elzie D. Smith, 57, passed away June 27, 2011, after a battle with cancer. He was born on October 12, 1953, to Elzie and Elnor Smith, Sr., in Center, Texas, and resided near Broaddus, Texas, for 25 years. His life was filled with love for family, friends, horses, dogs, and gardening. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jo Karen, and his father, Elzie, Sr.

He is survived by his mother, Elnor Smith of Nacogdoches; daughter Jodie Smith Goff and son-in-law Joe; daughter Jamie Smith; grandson Jacob Dean Goff; sister Sandra Hoppe and brother-in-law Frank; brother Kyle Smith and sister-in-law Stacy; cousin Sherry Bishop and her husband David; nephews Greg and Jayson Hoppe, and Brett, Jake, Trey, and Will Smith; along with many relatives and loved ones.

Memorial service will be held Friday, July 1st, 5-7 p.m. at Nacogdoches County Farm Bureau office at 2302 Northwest Stallings Drive, Nacogdoches. Because of his love of gardening and outdoors, the family requests live plants or young trees in lieu of flowers.

Kamryn Elise Cato, newborn, passed away June 21, 2011. She was born June 21, 2011 to April Moore and Chase Cato of Tenaha, Texas.

Funeral services were held Friday, June 24, 2011 at 1pm in Community Funeral Chapel in Center, Texas with Rev. Charles Pier, officiating. Interment followed at Friendship Cemetery, Tenaha, Texas.

Robert Snow Wiltshire, 79, of Center, passed away Saturday, June 25, 2011 at Holiday Nursing Home.

He was born February 6, 1932 to Clyde and Fannie Mozelle (Watson) Wiltshire. He served in the US Air Force for 10 years. He worked for Dr. Pepper where he was in sales and was in charge of special events.

Funeral services for Mrs. Zettie Mae Travis, age 80, of Beckville, TX, will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 27, 2011, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jerry Phillips and Bro. Danny Dodson officiating. Interment will follow at Shiloh Cemetery in Rusk County, TX. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Mrs. Travis passed away on Saturday morning, June 25, 2011, in Longview, TX.

Zettie Mae Travis was born on Nov. 3, 1930, in the Lindsay, OK area to Tommie and Ella Mae Childress Smith. She attended school in Mauriceville, TX. Mrs. Travis married Alex Joe “Jay” Travis on Sept. 1, 1945, in Center, TX. She worked as a seamstress for many years and later for Lockheed Martin. Mrs. Travis moved to Beckville in 1977, from Savoy, TX and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Beckville. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Tommie Joe “Jody” Travis; one brother, Lewis Smith; and three sisters, Tommie Bell Bryce, Berline Keating, and Edie Yarborough.

Masonic graveside services for Mr. Robert H. Adams, Jr., 66 of Carthage, Texas will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 26, 2011 at Old Center Cemetery in the Old Center Community of Panola County, Texas with Bro. Pete Williams officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Family visitation will be Saturday evening from 6–8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Adams passed away Thursday, June 23, 2011 at his home in Carthage.

Mr. Robert Herman Adams, Jr. was born December 1, 1944 in Center, Texas to Robert H. and Ruby Pate Belsha Adams. He was raised and attended schools in Center. Mr. Adams served his country in the U. S. Army, and owned and operated Adams Drilling Company for several years. Robert attended Calvary Baptist Church and was a master mason and a member of the Carthage Masonic Lodge No. 521, AF & AM. He married Rosemary Adams on August 16, 1965 and they celebrated forty-five years together. He loved hunting and fishing and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, son, Michael Lynn Hayes, half-brothers Tommy Belsha and Johnny Belsha, and half-sister, Louise Ellison.

Mr. Adams is survived by his loving wife, Rosemary Adams of Carthage; son, Kenneth W. Hayes of Carthage; sisters, Vera Mae Nemits and husband Joe of Hillister, Carolyn Moore of Center, half-brothers David Belsha of Shelbyville, James Robert Adams and wife, Patsy of Joaquin, Steve Adams of Timpson; half-sisters Nelda Faye Belsha of Center, Diane Belsha of Louisiana, and Mozelle Akins of Center; grandchildren, Melissa, Chris, Jason and Dustin Hayes; and great-grandchildren Alyvia, Cason, Kylie and Jonah Hayes; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Bill Tom Langford, 70, longtime resident of San Augustine, passed away Friday, June 17, 2011, in Nacogdoches.

A native of Hemphill, Texas, he was born to Eunice (Smith) Langford and Benis W. Langford on January 14, 1941. He served in the United States Army during the years of July 1959-July 1961. He retired from the Texas Department of Transportation after working 32 years, and also he served as San Augustine County Commissioner for Precinct 4 for eight years. He was a member of First United Pentecostal Church in Center.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 20, 2011, in the Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel, with Bro. Steve Harris and Bro. Lewis D. (Buddy) Pratt officiating. Interment will be in the Old Salem Cemetery in Shelby County. Visitation will be Sunday evening, May 19, 2011, beginning at 3 p.m. till 8 p.m. at Wyman Roberts Funeral Home, 316 West Columbia Street, San Augustine, Texas.

A native of San Augustine County, Texas, she was born on August 17, 1913, to Janie (Mills) Stringer and Henry Abner Stringer. She worked as a medication nurse for the nursing home.

Darrell McGee, 39, passed away June On June 4, 2011. Services were held Satuday, June 11, 2011 at Community Funeral Home, Center, Texas with interment at Buckley Cemetery, Milam, Texas.

Darrell was born, February 6, 1972 in Harris County unto the parents of Gloria and Percy McGee, who preceded him in death. He became a member of the Greater Mt. Olive Baptist Church at an early age.

He later married Tamiko McGee and this union brought two daughters; one son; and one grand son: Anuska Redmond, Tynequa McGee, SaDarian McGee; and JaCameron Lane.

Peggy Byrn Green, 95, of Timpson, Texas, passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2011, at her home in Timpson.

Born December 21, 1915, to Benn Aline Bussey Byrn and William M. “Mike” Byrn, she grew up in Timpson, graduating from Timpson High School. She attended Mary Hardin-Baylor and Baylor University, where she met John Willard Green. Upon graduation, in 1935, she returned to Timpson to teach English at Timpson High School. She married John Green on December 18, 1936, and began the first of many relocations during his long career with Texaco. Upon his retirement in 1971 as Executive Vice-President of World-wide Sales for Texaco, they returned to Timpson, renovated Peggy’s grandparents’ Victorian home and enjoyed traveling and supporting local charities, especially the Timpson EMS and Volunteer Fire services, for which she was honored by the State of Texas in 2005. John predeceased Peggy in 1987. Peggy was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

Peggy is survived by her daughter, Joan Green Jeffrey, of Liberty, Texas; her son, Mike Byrn Green of Alamosa, Colorado; her granddaughter, Julia Jeffrey Rathgeber and husband, Ross, of Austin, Texas; and two great-granddaughters whom she adored, Byrn Anne Rathgeber and Georgia Ann Jeffrey.

The family wishes to offer special thanks to the staff of Nurses Unlimited, especially Kimberly, Mary, Marla, Cathy, Angela, Mitchell, Peggy, and Cynthia; the staff of Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital and Dr. Richard Baker; Hospice of East Texas; Cindy Tate; Enrique Canada; and Timpson EMS.

Mary Kathryn Carroll, 91, of Center, the wife of late Dr. T.G. Carroll, passed away Friday, June 10, 2011 at Twin Lakes Nursing Center in San Augustine. She was born August 11, 1919 in Venus, Texas to William Burchard Johnson and Mary Nora Hardin Johnson. Ms. Carroll was a member of First Methodist Church in Center.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm, Sunday, June 12, 2011 at Watson and Sons Funeral Home in Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, June 13, 2011 at First Methodist Church in Center with Rev. Joel McMahon and Rev. Carla Reed officiating. Interment will follow at Shelbyville Cemetery in Shelbyville.

Pallbearers will be Bill Carroll, Bob Carroll, Keith Davis, Bob Brown, Steve Benedettini, Jonathon Carroll, and Tem Morrison.

.Graveside service for Peter Paul “Pete” Waselus, 90, of Garrison, TX, will be held at 2:30 PM, Sunday, June 12, 2011, in Caledonia Cemetery, Garrison, with Bro. Gary Nolan officiating. Mr. Waselus passed away June 9, 2011, in Garrison.

Born July 30, 1920, in Iowa, Peter Waselus was the son of the late Matthew and Mary (Mathias) Waselus. His family subsequently moved to Oklahoma where he grew up. During the Great Depression, Peter left Oklahoma for California. After lying about his age, Peter enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 16 and served as a Boatswain’s Mate on a Destroyer in the Pacific during World War II. After the war he returned to San Diego and became a building inspector for the City of San Diego, even inspecting Sea World as it was being constructed. During the time he worked for the City of San Diego, he attend college classes at night studying engineering and taking classes to help him better his “trade”. He loved to build houses and constructed lots of condominium complexes and apartment buildings as well as custom homes over his lifetime. In his later years he spent a lot of time remodeling the Caledonia Methodist Church where he attended.

After moving to the Caledonia Community in Rusk County, TX, Peter met Verlene (Stone) Keating. A three week courtship ended with their marriage on April 1, 1977. Favorite pastimes for Peter were fishing, keeping up with current news events and playing the piano.

Survivors include his wife Verlene (Stone) Waselus of Garrison; daughter Susan K. Nolan and husband Gary of Garrison; son Glenn Farris and wife Ruby of Longview; brother Robert Brown and wife Joan of Spiro, OK; 3 sisters: Rose Creech of Ashland, Kentucky, Gloria Hooper and husband Perry of Santee, CA, and sister Ruth Burke and husband Jim of Tulsa, OK; 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Peter Waselus was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 1 sister.

“Buddy” Broadway, 84, of Center, passed away Thursday, June 9, 2011 in Center. He was born April 16, 1927 in Center to John Henry Broadway and Lula Bertha Manshack Broadway. Mr. Broadway was a member of the Shelby County Foxhunters Association. He was a member of the Free Pentecostal Church.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Friday, June 10, 2011 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home. Lynn Murray Holt, age 70, passed away at his home in Phoenix, AZ on June 1, 2011.
 
Lynn was born in Center, TX on April 17, 1941 and grew up in Shelbyville, TX.  He graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1959.
 
Lynn is preceded in death by his father, Lath D. Holt and his mother, Alma Permenter Holt, of Shelbyville.
 
He is survived by his son, Sean Holt and wife, Carolyn Bisson of Glendale, CA and his daughter, Shana Halpin and husband, James Halpin of Phoenix, AZ.  His beloved grandchildren are Jordyn and Lucas Holt and Jamison and Jade Halpin.
 
Lynn is a lifetime member of the historic Masonic Lodge in Shelbyville and was an active member of the El Karubah Shrine Clown Unit for many years in Shreveport, LA.
 
Lynn owned and operated sales and marketing companies for most of his professional career and later worked in residential property management in Los Angeles.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am, Sunday, June 12, 2011 at Watson and Sons Funeral Home in Center. His ashes will then be interred at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center.


There will be a memorial service for Buford Parrish on Saturday, June 11, 2011 at 2 pm at Ramah Baptist Church located on Highway 84 E in Tenaha, Texas.

Mr. Charles Edward Lackey, 76 of Munford, AL passed away Saturday, June 4, 2011 in Anniston Al. Lackey was a native of Talladega County where he lived most of his life. Retired from Georgia Pacific in 2005.

Memorial services for Robert Wayne Hames, Holly Lake Ranch, are scheduled for 1:00 pm Saturday, June 18 at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, Dallas, where he was a long time member and elder. Robert Wayne Hames passed away May 25, 2011 at his home, one day before his 83rd birthday. He was born May 26, 1928 in Wichita Falls, TX to the late George W. and Mary Emma Hames. Born in Wichita Falls, he never forgot his home ties and the Friday Night Lights. He was selected as All State tackle in 1946 and lettered in football at the University of Texas at Austin and MidWestern University in Wichita Falls. He completed his education with a Masters at North Texas State University, Denton. He taught school for 40 years in the Dallas Independent School District before retiring to Holly Lake. Our many thanks to the medical staff at Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler, Heart to Heart Hospice and Kindred Hospital, White Rock and the other medical angels.
