I have fought a good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7.

Let not your heart be troubled; ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. Thomas said unto him, Lord we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? Jesus said unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man cometh unto the father, but by me.
St. John 14:1-6

Funeral services for Myrtle Boren, age 94, of Carthage, Texas will be 2:00pm Friday 24, 2012 at the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Don Ellis and Bro. Bob Scott officiating. Interment will follow in the Restland Memorial Park Cemetery in Carthage. Mrs. Boren passed away Wednesday, August 22, 2012 in Carthage.

Born March 18, 1918 in Oklahoma, Myrtle Maude Brazzeal was the daughter of Essie Ellen Waits and Wilbur Louis Brazzeal. Mrs. Boren moved to Carthage as a young girl with her family. She met Thomas Eugene Boren in 1933 and they were married on December 16th of that year. Together they shared 54 wonderful years of marriage until his death on May 13, 1987.

Myrtle was devoted to her family and her church, First Freewill Baptist, where she had been a member for many years. She was an amazing cook and nothing made her happier than to have a houseful of family over for a meal that she had gone to great lengths to plan and prepare. She retired from Panola General Hospital in 1984 with 12 years of service over the cafeteria. Many times through the years since her retirement, “Mrs. Myrtle”, as she was known to many, would run into those that had worked at the hospital during her tenure and the most common comment to her would be – “We sure miss your apple dumplings and your pies”. As her face lit up with pride, she would reply – “I’d be more than glad to make you some”. In her later years this love of cooking kept her busy baking pies and cakes for many throughout the county. Although she wouldn’t say she had a specialty, the most common request was her Sweet Potato Pie. It was not unusual to stop by to visit and find 5 or 6 pies lining her kitchen bar and then find yourself leaving with one of them because as she always put it – “I’ve always got an extra one or two because I never know when one of the kids might stop by”. “Mama Mryt”, as she was known to her family and many others, loved the times that her grandchildren, great grandchildren and several other children that she considered her own spent with her. Whether it be playing a game of checkers, reading a book or standing on the front porch with a smile waiting for them to get off the school bus; rest assured that her arms and her heart were always open for them and they could always count on her having them a snack.

Mrs. Boren is survived by Billie Jean Pugh and husband Max of Beaumont, Texas, Virginia Ellis and husband Ray, Albert Boren and wife Alice, Wesley Boren and wife Martha all of Carthage, Texas; sisters, Bertha Mathis and Gladys Davidson of Marshall, Texas and Violet Hale and Joy Tucker of Oklahoma. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren along with a host of nieces & nephews. She is also preceded in death by a brother, Delbert Brazzeal during WWII.
