Verna Bell Bledsoe, 87 of Joaquin, passed away Friday, September 27, 2013 at Nacogdoches Medical Center. A wake will be held from 6pm until 8pm on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at Community Funeral Home Chapel, Center, Texas. Services will be held at 11am on Wednesday, October 2 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Joaquin, Texas. Interment will be a Haslam Cemetery, Haslam, Texas with Pastor Sherman Graham officiating.

Charlotte Pierce, 95 of Garrison, passed away Monday, September 30, 2013 in Hemphill, Texas. She was born March 24, 1918 to Ottis Caldwell and Della Culberson Caldwell of Garrison. Visitation will be held prior to funeral services from 12:30pm until 2:00pm Thursday, October 3, 2013 at Garrison Funeral Home, Garrison, Texas. Services will start at 2pm and interment will be a Weaver Cemetery.

John G. Askew, 57, of Center, passed away Saturday, September 28, 2013 in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was born November 4, 1955 in Houston to Thomas Sims Askew and Doris Lillian Goodman Askew. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Center.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, September 29, 2013 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 30, 2013 at Watson & Sons Chapel with Bro. Gordon Vaughn officiating. Interment will follow at McClelland Cemetery in Shelbyville.

Born February 29, 1924, in Timpson, TX, Joe Bill Nelson was the son of the late U. S. Nelson and Fannie Williamson Nelson. He was a graduate of Timpson High School and served in the U. S. Army. Mr. Nelson had worked as a salesman and was a member of First Baptist Church, Timpson.

Mr. Nelson was preceded in death by his parents U. S. and Fannie Nelson and sisters Ben Jean Nelson and Frances Fox.

Thomas “Tom” Marshall Helms, Jr., age 64 of Center, passed away Saturday, September 28, 2013.

Services will be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at Mangum Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Larry Byrd & Bro. Marion Huckaby officiating. Burial will follow at Clever Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Mangum Funeral Home.

He was born December 3, 1948 in Skagway, Alaska to Thomas Marshall Helms, Sr. &Pauline Bynum Helms. He worked for Center Fixture Operations for many years and he was also a school teacher. He was a member of Neuville Baptist Church where he was a deacon.

He is preceded in death by infant Sister, Sally Helms.

Travis O'Daniel Hooper, age 82, of Huntington passed away Friday, September 27, 2013, at his residence.

He was born Oct. 17, 1930, in Shelby County. Mr. Hooper was a U.S. Army veteran and had worked as a laborer.

Survivors: daughters and sons-in-law, Edna and Walter Terrell of Trinity, Shirley Slaughter and Ken Hicks of Huntington, and Mary and Bill Bardwell of Lufkin; son Richard Hooper of Pollok; step-children, Carol Branton of Nacogdoches, Danny Bridges of Lufkin, and Arthur Bridges of Huntington; brother, Verlon Hooper of Center; sisters, Essie Soape and Vivian Luman, both of Aiken; 12 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carter and Vernice Hooper; and a sister, Dessie Knight.

Graveside services are set for 5:00 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, at White Rock Cemetery on Hwy. 7 in Shelby County with Bro. Garrel Faulkner officiating.

Norma Lydia Lout, at 90, went to be with the Lord on September 26, 2013 in Baytown, TX. The cause of death was cancer.

Norma was born on December 17, 1922 in Fort Morgan, Colorado to Carl and Lydia Wessel. Norma served in the Army from November 17, 1944 through March 13, 1946. Norma had basic training Iowa. She departed the US May 20, 1945 then served in France and Belgium. Norma was honorable discharged from (TEC-5) 490 Reinforcement Co. on March 13, 1946 at Camp Philip Morrin in France. Then she remained in Antwerp, Belgium as War Department Civilian Postal Clerk. Norma met and then married Sam Lout in Antwerp, Belgium on July 16, 1946. Then they returned to the US in December 1946.

Norma resided in Center (Campti), Lufkin, and Baytown, TX. While living in Center, she attended Sardis Missionary Baptist Church. She served as the pianist, organist, and church clerk. While living in Lufkin, she became a member Harmony Hill Baptist Church.

Norma was a very sweet Mama, grandmother "Mema", sister, and mother in law. She had many talents which are oil painting, sewing, playing piano and organ, baking, and she loved her cross word puzzles. She was a very Godly woman who prayed and read her Bible daily. She will be greatly missed.


Bob Brooks Ballard III, age 58 formerly of Center, passed away at his home in Bellaire, Texas on Thursday, September 12, 2013.

Randall Eugene Miller, 52, of Haughton, Louisiana, passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2013. He was born September 22, 1961 at Barksdale Air Force Base to Carl Henry Miller and Barbara S. Adams Miller. Mr. Miller retired from the United States Air Force after 23 years of service. Following his retirement, he worked 9 years in the Civil Service of the Air Force. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing. Mr. Miller was of the Baptist faith.

Funeral services for Mr. William “Bill” Wells, 81, of the Woods Community of Panola County, Texas will be 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Green and Rev. Rodney Puryear officiating. Family visitation will be two hours prior to the service from 2-4:00 p.m. Burial will follow in the Woods Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Mr. Wells died September 24, 2013 in Carthage, Texas.

Mr. William Donald “Bill” Wells was born March 15, 1932 in Cleveland, Texas. He was one of five children born to the marriage of Sherman Dudley and Faye Irene Dovall Wells. He was raised and schooled in Cleveland, graduating from Tarkington Prairie Schools and received his Bachelors from Sam Houston State University. Bill was owner and operator of Lufkin Supply retiring in 1995. He married Patricia Rue Pitts February 2, 1995 and they celebrated 18 years of marriage. Mr. Wells was a longtime member of the Harmony Hill Baptist Church in Lufkin and later the Woods New Hope Baptist Church. Bill was an equestrian enthusiast and cutting horses were his love. He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Assoc., American Cutting Horse Assoc., and National Cutting Horse Assoc. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Gayle “Jim” , Sherman Kenneth and Roy Donald Wells, son, William Donald “Clint” Wells, Jr., Joe Ben Ritter and son-in-law, Donald Squier.

Mr. Wells is survived by his loving wife, Pat Wells of Woods Community, children, Amber Carole Squier of Cleveland, Harriet Ann Modisette of Granbury, Cleve Donald Wells and wife Jana of Burleson, Delinda Lee Wells of Joshua, Blake Ritter and wife Janet of Paxton, sister, Dolly Wells Dill of Cleveland, sisters-in-law, Doris Wells of Eunice, LA, Nicki Wells of Pensacola, FL, grandchildren, Eric, Shelley, Kyle, Kaci, Tyler, Jennifer, Rylee, Presley, Josh and Zack, six great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. George E. Gibbs, 83, of Timpson, passed away Saturday, September 21, 2013 at his residence. He was born May 7, 1930 in Gary to George K. Gibbs and Lillie Esther (Taylor) Gibbs. Mr. Gibbs was of the Presbyterian faith.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at Garrison Funeral Home in Garrison. Interment will follow at Tennessee Cemetery in Timpson. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Lois Annette (King) Burleson, 82 of Pineland, passed away Thursday, September 5, 2013. She was born February 9, 1931. Lois graduated from Pineland High School in 1949 where she excelled in all subject but was most recognized for her skills as the point guard for the basketball team. After graduation, Lois moved to Beaumont, Texas where she met her husband and father to her children, Donald Chenier Sanders, Sr. They were married on August 3, 1949. The Sanders lived primarily in the Golden triangle area while the children grew up. They moved to Austin, Texas in the summer of 1970 where Lois took an administrative assistant potion with the Texas Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation (TDMHMR) and eventually rose to be the Manager of the department of Design and Construction. It was at TDMHMR where Lois met Donald Ray Burleson a retired Airforce Major. After seven years of dating she finally agreed to married him on February 8, 1980. Lois and Ray retired from the State of Texas, taking about 15 years to travel around the United States and at least one trip abroad. They settled in the El Paso area until Spring of 2008 when they moved to Temple, Texas. Both were placed in an Alzheimer's facility in May 2012. Lois loved to cook, sew and be with family. She was an amazing mother and friend to whom her smile, laugh and sense of sassy humor will live on forever.

Don Herman Hataway,51, born and raised in Tenaha, currently of Joaquin, passed away Monday, September 23, 2013 at East Texas Medical Center in Carthage after a brief illness.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 26, 2013 at Mangum Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Gordon Vaughn and Larry Lampley officiating. Burial will follow at Ramah Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 25, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Mangum Funeral Home.

He was born January 4, 1962 to Donald Gene Hataway and Bobbie Ann Lampley. At the age of 17, Don started out working for his Uncle Bob Hataway driving 18 wheelers. He drove 18 wheelers for 34 years and he owned and operated Hataway Trucking with seven 18 wheelers. He was married to the love of his life Brenda for 28 ½ wonderful years. Don was a loving husband, father, papaw and an outstanding friend, he would give you the shirt off of his back for anybody in need and he never met a stranger.

Oleta Lawson Cockrell, 93, of Joaquin, passed away Monday, September 23, 2013 at Holiday Nursing Home in Center. She was born August 8, 1920 in the Antioch Community of Shelby County to Hobson Lawson and Lela Jones Lawson. Oleta graduated from Center High School in 1937 and went on to receive a Bachelor of Science Degree and Master’s Degree from Stephen F. Austin University. She was married for 52 years to Bud Truitt Cockrell, who preceded her in death. Oleta was a retired teacher, having taught in Aldine ISD and Joaquin ISD. She was a member of Joaquin First Baptist Church for over 60 years, where she served faithfully as a Sunday school teacher, church clerk and WMA leader. Oleta was known for her quilting and cooking skills, most especially her delicious cream corn.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 26, 2013 at First Baptist Church in Joaquin. Interment will follow at Joaquin Cemetery in Joaquin.

Pallbearers will be Oleta’s grandson, grandsons-in-law and great grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters and great granddaughters.

Robert Wayne Belrose, Jr. aka “Bobby”, was a resident of Lumberton, Texas for thirty-one years. Born to Robert and Martha Belrose, in Center, Texas, he was raised in Port Neches and was a Port Neches graduate. After graduation, he enlisted in the Army and served four years.

He married his best friend Charlotte on December 12, 1982 and they had three children.

Bobby was a cabinet maker who worked side by side with his wife and they had a wonderful life together. Bobby enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids rather they were watching his favorite TV shows, “Pawn Stars” or “Storage Wars”. He was a man of few words who loved his family. Even though he didn’t have much, he always gave to his wife, children and grandkids, who always came first. Bobby also had a bit of a wild side and loved his motorcycles. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, son and friend. He will be greatly missed by many. Another angel that earned his wings.

Bobby is preceded in death by his mother, Martha Greene Belrose; and brother, Donald Ray Belrose.

He leaves behind to cherish his memories, his loving wife, Charlotte; their three children, Stoney, Shonneeke and David, and Jamie and her husband Chris, all of Lumberton, Texas; seven grandkids, Cassie, Jolie, Elijah, Hannah, Breeah, Brennen and Taylor; his father, Robert Belrose, of Center, Texas and Bonnie Belrose, of Center, Texas; uncles, Jimmy Belrose and his wife Linda of Center, Texas and AB Belrose of Port Neches; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lt. Col. V.E. Wilson, USAF retired, passed away Friday, September 6, 2013. He was born August 1, 1917. He was raised in Center and attended Stephen F. Austin State University. Following graduation in 1940, he joined the Army Air Corp Flying Cadet program. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in March 1942. He met his beloved Ann in 1945 when he was stationed at Boca Raton Army Air Field. They married less than a year later and their romance lasted 63 years. Col. Wilson served in the USAF for 24 years, retiring to Biloxi, MS in 1965. He and Ann had two daughters, Jayne and Sue.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings; and wife, Ann Myers Wilson.

Col. Wilson is survived by daughters, Jayne Stewart and husband SMSgt Robert G. Stewart, USAF retired, Sue McCullough and husband, Russell; and grandchildren, Sara Pitey, Will McCullough and Ben McCullough.

Roy Gene “Bubba” Loosmore of Santa Fe, TX, age 66, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 14, 2013 with family at his side. He was born in Pasadena, TX on November 10, 1946 to Roy Loosmore and Rose Mary Windham.

Bubba worked as a heavy equipment operator for most of his life, and thoroughly enjoyed running a tractor or crane; it didn’t matter which. He was an avid hunter and gardener and enjoyed raising animals and taught anyone who wanted to gain his knowledge. He was an amazing, giving and fearless man who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents and nephew (Timothy Wade Galloway). He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Leann Yancy Loosmore; 4 children, his daughter Tonya Ray, his son Beaujames Loosmore (wife Julie) and their daughter his only grandchild Evie, his daughter Lacy Jean Petermann (husband Joseph) and daughter Kelly Ann Loosmore; and 2 sisters, Sue Bailey (husband George) and their sons, Ray Black and Matt Bailey and sister Annette Vining (husband Steve) their daughter, Rose Mary Galloway (her three sons, Alex, Jose and Eli). Extended family members, Johnny and Mary Rouse, Joyce Ann Painter, Joe Dees, Tonya Longenbaugh, John Michael Rouse and Patricia Hill and Russell Walker and numerous others, he called friend or loved one.

Mrs. Sparks passed from this life on September 12, 2013 at Hospice Homeplace in Tyler. She was born February 6, 1953 in Panola County to the late John V. and Corene Soape Hooker. Kathy had been a homemaker until she went to work for the city of Henderson as the Administrative Assistant to Tourism and Main Street, a post she held for seven years. Kathy and Maxie have been married for 41 years, and she loved the Lord and her family. Kathy was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Corene Hooker.

Survivors include: husband, Frank Maxie Sparks of Henderson; son, Justin Sparks and wife Mary of Jacksonville; daughters, Stephanie Sparks Riddle and husband David of Henderson, and Lee Ann Willis of Mt. David Eugene (Salty) Brothers, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, fun-filled friend, and Christ follower was called home on September 9, 2013 after a fourteen year battle with Alzheimers. Those who knew David remember him for his infectious sense of humor and his ability to make every day an occasion to laugh and be happy. He had a quick wit, a real love of people and a deep-seated integrity.

David was born in Stranger, Texas, on August 18, 1927, to Robert T. and Sadie Brothers. David's family moved to Marlin, Texas when he was young and he graduated from Marlin High School. After graduation, he honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy during and after W.W. II. David obtained his bachelor's degree in 1952 from his beloved alma mater, Baylor University. Upon graduation, he was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and spent the next 38 years there holding various management positions in the business office and marketing division.

On February 9, 1957, David married the love of his life, Martha Peters, from Timpson, Texas, and they began their journey of 56 years together. From this union was born two sons, David Jr. in 1959, and Scot in 1960. David was the boys' Little League manager or coach for many years. He also served as a PTA president while they were in elementary, junior high and high school.

David and Martha's years of marriage were filled with love and adoration for each other. David was dedicated to his family and serving the Lord as a Sunday School teacher/director and in many other capacities.

David was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his sisters, Edna Fay Lindsey and Ethel Martyr, and two brothers, Robert Brothers and Taylor Brothers. He is survived by his wife, Martha, of Sugar Land, Texas, sons, David Brothers, Jr., and wife Ann of Sugar Land, Texas, and Scot Brothers and wife Kim, of Germantown, Tennessee, and four wonderful grandchildren, Sara Beth, Rebecca (and her husband Jeff Laschober), Kristina and Ben. He is also survived by one brother, Billy Brothers of Dayton, Texas.

A memorial service will be held for David on September 14, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Sugar Land Baptist Church, 16755 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land, Texas. William Sean Cole, 45, of Tyler, passed away Tuesday, September 10, 2013 in Tyler after a long battle with cancer. He was born January 11, 1968 in Tyler to William Franklin Cole and Bobbie Carol Carter Cole. He attended Dixie Elementary and John Tyler High School. After graduation, he attended Tyler Junior College. Sean worked for many years as a long haul truck driver for Packerland. He retired from truck driving after a disabling back injury and was continuing his education at Stephen F. Austin University. Sean loved spending time with his son, Nathan. He was a member of Spanns Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Center.

Ms. Yarbrough passed away Tuesday, September 10, 2013, in Center, TX.

Born June 18, 1938, in Carthage, TX, Mellie June Yarbrough was the daughter of the late Lawrence Clifton Dickerson, Sr., and Mellie Briggs Dickerson. She graduated from Carthage High School and attended Stephen F. Austin State University. June enjoyed various occupations throughout her life. She taught school while living in Alaska and was a poultry farmer for 40 years in the Stockman Community of Shelby County. During this time she also owned and operated a business and drove a school bus for the Timpson Independent School District. Even though she was always busy, she found time to enjoy family get togethers and take Sunday afternoon drives to visit family and friends.

Survivors include her sons Edward Yarbrough and wife Deborah of Belcher, LA, and Mark E. Yarbrough of Timpson; daughter Pam L. Yarbrough of Timpson; brothers Larry N. Dickerson and wife Allie of Lafayette, LA, and Charles C. “Brick” Dickerson and wife Vickie of Carthage, TX; sister Wanda Nell Belcher of Vermont; grandchildren Daniel E. Yarbrough and wife Ryan of Haughton, LA, and Joseph A. Yarbrough and wife Callie of Baton Rouge, LA; soon to arrive in November, great grandson Knox Yarbrough; and numerous other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, June Yarbrough was preceded in death by brothers Lawrence C. Dickerson, Jr., and Arthur “Tuffy” Dickerson.

Jimmie Lou Holsey, 79, of Cushing, formerly of Center, passed away Sunday, September 8, 2013 at Nacogdoches Medical Center in Nacogdoches. She was born June 2, 1934 in Tenaha to J. G. “Jake” Lilly and Lottie B. Hooper Lilly. Ms. Holsey graduated from Joaquin High School and went on to further her education at Elliott’s Business School in Shreveport, Louisiana. She later became a secretary at McLeroy & McLeroy Law Firm, where she retired after several years of service. Ms. Holsey was a member of Center Bible Fellowship.

Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at Joaquin Cemetery in Joaquin.

Lonnie B. Cox, 88, of Center, passed away Friday, September 6, 2013 at Green Acres Nursing Home in Center. He was born October 29, 1924 in Mineral, Texas to Earnest Weston Cox and Susan Margaret Baugh Cox. Mr. Cox joined the United States Marine Corps, were he served during World War II. He later joined the United States Air Force in 1945 and retired in 1966. During his enlistment in the Air Force, he served in both Korea and Vietnam. Mr. Cox was a member of VFW Post #8904 in Center. He was of the Baptist faith.

Funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, September 8, 2013 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center with Bro. Carl Smith and Bro. Mike Belgard officiating. A Military Honors Graveside service will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Anna Beth Butler, age 78, of Lubbock died Monday, Sept. 2, 2013, at Odyssey Hospice.

Miss Butler was born June 25, 1935, in Goodrich and had been a former longtime resident of Deep East Texas, where she taught at various schools. She held a master's degree from Stephen F. Austin State University.

Her survivors include nephews, Dana Butler, Brian Butler, and Gregory Butler; and a niece, Laurie Butler.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Henry Butler and Daisy Griffin Butler; and a brother, Vernon Butler.

Graveside rites are set for 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at Sunset Memorial Park in Nacogdoches with Rev. John Bingham officiating.

Milton Jones lived to be 86 years young. He was born to Walter and Opal Jones of San Augustine, Texas on December 17, 1926, in a tent at a logging camp where his father worked. After high school he joined the Merchant Marines aboard a supply ship between the US, Korea and Japan. On December 14, 1947, he married Norma Jean Tyre from Center, Texas. He had a candy route with Tom’s, and then sold cars in Center for many years before moving to Galena Park. He bought T & J Superette grocery store from his cousin Tommy Arnold. He enjoyed working the store and visiting with his customers. After selling that store, he went to work with Tommy at his store on Bandera in North Shore. Later he went to work with Tommy’s brother, Jack Arnold, at Galena Park Motors. The last three years of his life he lived in a nursing home in Friendswood where he was well known and loved. He was a talker and loved visiting with the ladies. He enjoyed playing jokes and always had a story to tell. He will be missed by all that knew him.

Milton Jones is survived by daughters Milta Whitman and husband Jack, Leezan Grun and husband Eddie, stepdaughter Nancy Haight and husband Bob, and stepson David Jones. He was blessed with many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Milton was an only child and loved his cousins, which were more like brothers: Jack Arnold, deceased; Jim Arnold; and Tommy Arnold. Milton was a good and generous man who enjoyed life; he will be missed by many.

Graveside services were held Thursday, September 5, 2013 at Oaklawn Cemetery in Center, Texas.

Bill peacefully passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2013 and will be greatly missed by family, friends, and students. The son of Elvin and Ethel Moore, he grew up in Shelbyville, TX. After graduation, Bill joined the Air Force and served his country in the Vietnam War. Upon retiring from the military, he began his second career as a math teacher. Bill thoroughly enjoyed all of his students, whom he affectionately referred to as ”turkeys” and “squirrels” and remained close to them throughout the years.

Bill was an avid golfer and was fortunate enough to play on many of his favorite golf courses. He loved his country, the Texas Longhorns, the Dallas Cowboys, but most of all his family. Left to cherish his memory are his son, Ofc. Mike Moore BCPD, of whom he was very proud and wife Carrie; his granddaughter, Sara whom he loved dearly; his loving wife, Virginia along with her son Stephen Hammett, his wife Nikki and two daughters, Ireland and Finleigh; daughter Sharron Brooks and her sons Brandon and Nicholas. He also leaves behind his sister Thelma and brother-in-law Benny Smith and a host of other relatives and friends.

Bill dedicated his life to serving others, therefore, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of choice.

Alicia was born on August 28, 1924 in Panama, where she met and married the love of her life, Virgil R. “Bill” Worsham, who preceded her in death in 1993. They retired to Shelby County in 1971, where she lived until her health took her to North Carolina in 2007. She was a loving mother who was a full time homemaker and avid supporter of her children’s activities growing up, and continued with grandchildren’s activities whenever possible with a road trip. She never met a stranger and loved to visit. She was a faithful member of New Hope Missionary Church and attended daily devotions at Wedding Park after her move.

Mr. Poskey passed away on August 31, 2013. He was born on December 3, 1926 to the late Abel Triana and Dora Triana.

Frank was born and raised in Nacogdoches. He married his loving wife, Ilse Wanderer Poskey, in Germany in 1961 while serving in the United States Army. He enjoyed fishing, camping and was always tinkering. Frank loved his wife more than life itself. His most special times were spending quality time with his loving kids and grandkids. Frank was known by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

She was a member of Little Flock Baptist Church in San Augustine. Ms. Wilburn was a kind and loving mother and will be sadly missed by many. She pursued a career in nursing earlier in life and spread love and hope to many. A lover of animals, Mrs. Wilburn saved many a needy creature.

Billy Clayton Warr was born September 12, 1943, to Earnest and Liddie Warr, in Shelby County, Texas. He passed from this life at 7 A.M. August 31, 2013, at his home in Tupman, California, surrounded by his family. He was 69.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Melva; his daughter, Julie Casteel, and son-in-law James Casteel. He has one grandson, Jess Casteel, and his family: Jamie, Zoey, Gage, Jake, and an unborn great grandchild that he was looking forward to being with very much.

He will be missed by his three surviving sisters and their husbands: Ruby and Ray Smith; Betty and Travis Prior; Mary and Harry Scates; and numerous nephews and nieces, and he loved every one of them.

He is a born again Christian as of 1988. That does not mean he was perfected in the flesh, but he was in the Spirit, and he loved the Lord.

Born December 28, 1950, in Shelby County, TX, Horace Wayne Bell, Sr., was the son of Willard D. Bell and the late Bethel (Hough) Bell. Horace Wayne was a self-employed mechanic with numerous abilities. He was a true “jack of all trades”. His talents also included playing the guitar. During the past few years, Horace Wayne loving cared for his Aunt Geneva until her death January 29, 2013.

Survivors include his son Horace Wayne Bell, Jr., of Amarillo, TX; father Willard D. Bell and his wife Josephine of Cleveland, TX; sisters Barbara Sykes of Dallas and Wendy Bell of Cleveland; stepbrother Jody of Cleveland; 6 grandchildren, all of Cleveland; cousins Janis Bass and Billie Jean Williamson of Timpson; and numerous other aunts, uncles, and cousins.

H. B. “Bub” Harris, Jr., of Center, passed away quietly Saturday, August 31, 2013 in Houston after a lingering illness. He was better known to his family and friends as “Bub.” He is survived by his sisters, Marge Harris Bentsen and husband Calvin of McAllen and Ann Harris Ralph of Beaumont; three nieces, Pam Bentsen Havens and husband Tim, Margo Bentsen Falb and Susie Bentsen Corrigan and husband Leo; nephew, Tommy Ralph, Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maggie and Bridges Harris of Center.

Bub was born on November 3, 1934 in Center, where he attended Center High School. He excelled in sports, particularly football and tennis and then furthered his education by graduating from Baylor University and receiving his MBA from the University of Texas in Austin. His passion for learning and striving to improve one’s self filtered down, especially to his great-nieces and nephews. Most of his life was spent in Houston, where he was involved in real estate and other investments. Besides his love for business, he enjoyed spending time with his family on the tennis court, at the Houston rodeo or sampling great restaurants. Bub was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Center. He knew the greatest legacy he could leave was his faith in God and relied upon Him to get him through the trials of his life. Bub’s desire would be his passing would be believed as a promotion and all would celebrate life and the time left on this side of heaven would be filled with love, life, kindness, generosity, and doing the right thing in all circumstances.

Johnny Lamar Ricks, 85, of Center formerly of Mt. Pleasant, passed Saturday, August 31, 2013 at Briarcliff Health Center in Carthage.

His wishes were to be cremated and no services are planned at this time.

He was born August 21, 1928 in Titus County to H.R. and Verna (Copeland) Ricks.

He is preceded in death by his Parents, H.R. and Verna Ricks and Brother, Jim Ricks

Bonnie Duncan, 86, of Center, passed away Thursday, August 29, 2013 at Select Specialty Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at Mangum Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Pat Windham officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 3, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Mangum Funeral Home.

She was born January 25, 1927 to Perry and Esther Mae (Dockens) Corbell.
