Amanda Kay Haney, 22, of Timpson, TX passed away on July 27, 2014. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2014, at 10:00 AM in the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home with Mrs. Charlotte Metcalf officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
Visitation will held on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at Taylor Funeral Home from 5-8 PM.

Amanda was born in Nacogdoches, Texas on April 8, 1992, to Mr. Stanley Haney and Mrs. Lisa Watson Green. Amanda grew up in Timpson, Texas and graduated from Timpson High School in 2010. Amanda enjoyed hanging out with her friends, playing softball, and she had a talent for taking pictures. She was very outgoing, never met a stranger. Amanda was a rebel with a very big heart. In her mother’s words “Amanda loved with everything she had”. She worked as a nurse aid at Pinegrove Nursing Center.

Amanda is survived by her father Stanley Haney; mother, Lisa Watson Green of Tenaha, Tx; step father, Robert Green of Tenaha, Tx; brother, Bobby Bray of Tenaha, Tx; sister, Michelle Haney of Tenaha, Tx; step brother, Jeremy Green of Tenaha, Tx; step sisters, Tiffany Green and Cassi Green both of San Augustine, Tx.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Jimmy and Patsy Watson and Betty Burgay.

Anita Worsham, 79, of Joaquin, passed away Sunday, July 27, 2014 at her residence.

Ms. Worsham was born July 6, 1935 in Hardy, Arkansas. She was employed for over twenty years at Fair Store in Nederland. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star for over fifty years and also a member of Jackson Missionary Baptist Church in Joaquin. Ms. Worsham loved reading and gardening.

Bobbie Jean Foster, 70, of Timpson, Texas, passed away Sunday, July 27, 2014, at her home in the Tennessee Community, Timpson, Texas. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, July 29, 2014, in Timpson Missionary Baptist Church with Bros. Thad Mills, B. A. Morris, P. A. Dubose, and Justin Coburn officiating. Interment will follow in Timpson Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be 5:00 -8:00 PM, Monday, July 28, 2014, at Taylor Funeral Home, Timpson.

Born January 18, 1944, in Silsbee, Texas, Bobbie Jean Foster was the daughter of the late Harold Lamar and Alma (Jarvis) Bussey. Bobbie graduated from San Augustine High School and attended Massey Business College. She and Guy Foster were married May 2, 1969. Bobbie retired after 33 years as a dietician with Timspon ISD. She was also a member of Timpson Missionary Baptist Church for 44 years where she taught Sunday School and BTC.

Survivors include her husband Guy Foster of Timpson; daughter Connie Richard and husband Bobby of Joaquin, TX; sons, Kevin Foster and wife Evelyn of Tenaha, TX, and Rodney Foster and wife Sharla of Timpson; brother David Bussey of Center, TX; sisters-in-law, Jimmie Bowlin of Carthage, TX, Anita Singleton and husband Herbert of Conroe, TX, and Eva Joy Meaux and husband Jerry of Carthage; brother-in-law William Ray Foster and wife Bell of Tenaha; 11 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren.

Willie Earl "Tuffy" Tarver, age 68, passed away July 18, 2014. He was born August 13, 1945 to Reverend Willie and Lucy Tarver.

Funeral services will be held at 1pm Friday, July 25, 2014 at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, Booker T. Washington Dr., Tenaha, with interment to follow at St. John Cemetery, Tenaha, Texas. Officiating will be Reverend Alfred Berry.

"Tuffy" moved to Tenaha, Texas from Timpson, Texas were he continued his education at Booker T. Washington High School in Tenaha, Texas. He later married Ms. Johnnie Ray Washington and to this union one child was born. He was employed by Anderson Saw Mill for several years. He worked many other jobs in his life time until his health got bad.

Virginia Belle Lee, 88, of Garrison, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2014 in Garrison.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 21, 2014 at Garrison Funeral Home in Garrison. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Garrison Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Rick Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery in Garrison. After the service, lunch will be served in the fellowship hall of Garrison United Methodist Church.

She was born January 26, 1926 in the Cedar Bluff Community, south of Garrison to D.L. Hancock and Rosa Belle Peterson Hancock. She was a retired school teacher, a member of Garrison United Methodist Church, and a lifelong resident of the Garrison area.

Mary Jane Carter (Nee Lister), 77, a resident of Chowchilla for over 60 years, was born on September 22, 1936 in Shelbyville, Texas. She was the second of three daughters born to Sidney Lister and Bernice Lister (nee Roberson). During Mary’s early childhood years the family lived in Center, Texas. The family moved to California when Mary was six years old. Mary and her sisters went to school in Firebaugh and Red Top.

Mary was a seasonal employee at Tri-Valley Growers in Merced, California for 20 years and was employed with Madera Glass Company in Madera, California for 15 years before retiring in August 2003.

Her leisure activities included fishing, gardening, barbequing, listening to music (country, blues, R&B and gospel), the occasional trip to Table Mountain Casino to try her luck at the slot machines, and relaxing with her family and friends. Mary also enjoyed reading and watching educational programs on television as well as the local and national news to stay up to date on current events.

Mary will be greatly missed by her family and close friends. She leaves behind to continue their life journey without her her younger sister Lula Mae Evans, and her five children: Jackie Smith, Michael Smith, Mark Carter, Carolyn Carter Nixon and Michelle Carter; seven grandchildren: Michael Jr., Monique, Divina, Cortney, Eva, Delaney and Zachary, and several great-grandchildren; her stepchildren: Grace Carter Douglas, Lula Carter Terry, Anita Carter, Harold Carter and their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as a host of nephews, nieces, extended family and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents Sidney and Bernice, older sister Mona Brown, her husband Kermit Carter and step-sons Johnnie Carter and Leroy Carter.

Alfred L. Hudgins, 92, of Longview, passed away Thursday, July 17, 2014 in Longview.

Mr. Hudgins was born November 18, 1921 in Nacogdoches County to Walter O. Hudgins and Allie Anderson. He served in the United States Army and was of the Baptist Faith.

Susan JoAnn Sanford, 64, of Center, passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at her residence after a courageous battle with cancer.

Julius Ray Cogswell, age 83, formerly of Center, passed away on July 6, 2014 in Mountain City, Tennessee. He was born in Center, Texas on September 3, 1930 to Ed Cogswell and Lena Mae Shillings Cogswell. He worked for many years as a sheet rocker in the Beaumont, Orange area.

Mr. Cogswell was cremated and no services are planned.

J. Tom Steele of California died July 8, 2014, in his home on his 78th birthday. A military service will be held Thursday, July 17, 2014 at Rose Hills Mortuary in Whittier, CA.

Tom was born in Center to J.T. and Docia Bishop Steele on July 8, 1936. He grew up in Timpson and Center and joined the Marines at a young age. He was a heavy equipment operator in California for many years.

He is survived by his children, Jim, Debbie, and Tracy of California, six grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.

Local survivors include nephew, Charlie Mac Bussey and nieces, Mary Lou Lout of Center and Barbara Windham of Bossier City, LA and their families.

Fred Carter Green, 79, of Shelbyville, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2014 in Center.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, July 13, 2014 at the home of Danny & Cheryl Green. The family will have a private graveside service at a later date.

Mr. Green was born August 31, 1934 in Shelbyville to Vessie Caraway Green and Mary Leigh Carter Green. He served in the United States National Guard and was a member of IBEW Local 569, San Diego, California. Mr. Green loved working in his garden. He always had a big vegetable garden, fruit trees and beautiful rose bushes. He was also an avid fisherman for many years.

Mr. Gee was born June 22, 1928 in Center to Sidney Gee and Bonnie Lucille Bailey Gee. He was the owner and operator of Gee Lumber Company from 1950 until 1992 and was also instrumental in supplying lumber during the early stages of the poultry industry in Shelby County. Mr. Gee was a member of Heritage Baptist Church in Center.

Perry Honea, 72, of Garrison, passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at Nacogdoches Medical Center in Nacogdoches.

Perry was born May 13, 1942 in Nacogdoches County to Calvin Honea and Bonnie Barnhart Honea. He graduated from Garrison ISD in 1961 and went on to further his education at Stephen F. Austin University, where he graduated in 1965. Over the years, Perry was employed with SIC Finance Company in Lufkin, Perry Honea Grocery in Garrison, Stone Fort Bank in Nacogdoches, Chireno Bank in Chireno and Mangum Funeral Home in Center. For the past fifteen years, he has been a loyal and valuable employee of Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center and Garrison Funeral Home in Garrison. Perry was a member of the Garrison School Board for 10 years, a charter member of Garrison Fire Department and EMT, a member of Garrison Lions Club and the Shelby County Cruisers.

Mrs. LaVerne Thruston was born in Pt. Arthur, Texas, on October 11, 1921. She entered into rest on July 8, 2014 at Green Acres of Center. She was a retired homemaker. She lived with her husband, who precedes her in death, most of their lives in the Spring Hill community of Nacogdoches county.

She is survived by her children,

Daughter: Laura Sue Butler Rowe & husband Charles Rowe, of Center.

Son: Martin Wallace Thruston & wife Isabel, of Santa Barbara, California.

Mary Ann Dailey, 78, of High Island, formerly of Huxley, died Friday, July 4, 2014 at Christus Hospital-St. Elizabeth, Beaumont. She was born on November 21, 1935, in Huxley, to Nona Gladys Green and George Washington Vaughn. She was a retired dietician supervisor with High Island Independent School District.

Mary Ann enjoyed cooking, family, friends, holidays, and family gatherings. She especially enjoyed watching golf, game shows, and the New Orleans Saints.

Mrs. Dailey is survived by her husband of fifty-nine years, George W. Dailey; sons, Bobby Dailey and Linda Hadley of Kerrville; Darrell Dailey and his wife, Belinda, of Alvin; and Lonnie Dailey and his wife, Annette, of High Island; daughter, Donna Bertolino and her husband, Jackie, of High Island; grandchildren, Sean, Dean, Wayne, Michelle, Heather, Crystal, Jackie Jr., and Clint; seventeen great-grandchildren; brothers, Thurman and Gordon; sisters, Madge, Barbara Jeff, and Rhonda; and numerous nieces; nephews; and friends.

Juanice Wheeler Powell, 85, of Shelbyville, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2014 in San Augustine. She was born May 28, 1929 to Don and Barksdale Tyer Wheeler. She was born at home on Pearl Street in Center. Juanice’s birth was followed by the birth of two brothers, Richard Don and Gilbert Gene Wheeler.

Juanice graduated from Center High School in 1946, attended Stephen F. Austin State College earning Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Education, with Supervisor and Administrator Certificates. She taught third grade for Center ISD for seven years. She was employed by Shelbyville ISD for 23 years teaching second grade that learning is fun. She retired in 1990.

Juanice transferred her church membership from the First Christian Church to the First Methodist Church in Shelbyville in 1960. She served as a Sunday School teacher, chairman of the Pastor-Parish Relations Committee, Memorial Committee, Historical Committee Trustee and others. She was a member of the Second Mile Club and a life member of the Stephen F. Austin Alumni Association. Juanice enjoyed the San Augustine Duplicate Bridge Club and any foursome-the players as much as the bridge. She enjoyed exercise classes, tap dancing, sharing recipes and most kinds of music. Most of all she loved and cared for her family and tried to make their lives better.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 6:00 Pm, Saturday, July 5, 2014 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, July 6, 2014 at Watson & Sons Chapel with Bro. Nathan Hodge officiating. Interment will follow in the Shelbyville Cemetery in Shelbyville.
