Samuel Lee Jackson of Tenaha passed away Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at Medical Center Hospital in Nacogdoches following a brief illness. He was born in Center, TX, February 28, 1943, to W.H. and Verna Mae English Jackson. He was slightly older than his twin brother, Jerry.
He was a graduate of Center High School and attended Panola Junior College, where he was a member of the Panola Pony baseball team. He married Billie Balkcom on August 28, 1965.
By trade, he was a welder and worked for oilfield services in the Kilgore/Overton area for over 30 years. He retired to Tenaha with his wife a number of years ago.
He was a man who loved family and getting together for big meals. A favorite pastime was watching his children and grandchildren in their various sports events.

Services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, February 11, 2022, at the First United Methodist Church of Tenaha with burial at the Tennessee Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Mackey, Kelly Cook, Gannon Cook, Trey Reeves, Ty Reeves, and Douglas Jackson.

Voner Dean Singleton, age 69, departed this life on January 31, 2022 in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was born on January 15, 1953 to Alvord (Jack) and Murtha Singleton, Sr. and was raised in Center, Texas.
Viewing is 11am until 6pm on Friday, February 11, 2022 at Community Funeral Home Chapel in Center. Service is at 1pm on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at Triumph the Church and Kingdom of God in Christ, 908 Daniels Street, Center, Texas with Rev. Johnny Jones officiating.
He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
Voner met the love of his life, Liza (Sweet) Singleton and they were were married for 30 years. Voner attended C.H. Daniels High School and worked for Center Motor Company for more than 30 years. Voner was a very loving man and easy to get along with others. Voner lived in Shreveport, Louisiana.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Murtha and father, Alvord (Jack) Singleton; one sister, three brothers, one step-daughter, and four grandkids.

Linval Allen Johnson, 84, of Carthage, Texas, passed away on February 6, 2022, in Tyler, Texas. He was born on April 29, 1937, in Gary, Texas, to the late Burtis and Virgie Johnson. Graveside service will be 3:00 pm on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at Corinth Cemetery, Timpson, Texas with Bro. Mark Manning officiating.
Allen was born and raised in Gary/Timpson area. He was married to the love of his life, Peggy, on December 29, 1972. They were married for 49 years at the time of his passing. Allen loved watching westerns and wrestling with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed watching boxing matches. Allen was a member of Carthage Missionary Baptist Church. He loved his family with all that he was. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Bro. Charles Patrick Windham, 87, of Campti, Texas passed away in his home February 6, 2022 surrounded by his children.
Visitation will be Friday, February 11th, at 5:00 pm at Watson Funeral Home in Center, Texas. Services will be 10 am, Saturday, February 12th, at Watson’s, and will be officiated by Brother Kevin Gentry and the Obituary will be done by Dale Windham. Interment will be held directly after at Sardis Cemetery.
Born November 1, 1934 to Laurie W. “Son” Windham and Zelma N. Squyres Windham, Pat was a man of many talents, from calling in the cows to playing any song his grandchildren desired on the guitar; but, Pat’s greatest talent was leading people to salvation. For over fifty years he followed his calling from Christ, assisted by his devoted wife Janice. In the 67 years the pair spent together nothing fulfilled them as much as spreading their faith. Pat was a husband, a father, a friend, but first and foremost he was a shepherd. Over the course of many years he accumulated a large flock, and at any time of day, or night, he would take phone calls and make trips across county and state lines for them. He would go anywhere, do anything for his church family. To him they were on equal ground with his own family. He truly saw them as his brothers and sisters in Christ. Pat was a man called by God, and the joy he took in being the Lord’s servant was undoubtedly reflected in the blessings he received. In his beloved family in Christ and in his family that carries on his legacy, Pat saw more life and love than most men. To hear it put in his own words, “I feel like I’m drinking from a saucer, cause my cup has overflowed.”

Kenneth Nix entered into rest on January 26, 2022, at LSU Hospital in Shreveport, LA.

Kenneth was born October 23, 1955, to Bowden and Jessie Nix in Zwolle, LA. In 1960, they moved to Arcata, California, where Kenneth attended school from grade K-graduating from Arcata High School in 1973. Kenneth enjoyed fishing and working on small engines.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bowden Nix; mother, Jessie Nix; and great nephew, Trenton Skinner.

Lula Belle McDaniel Jansen Danley of Joaquin, Devoted Wife, Loving Mother, Beloved Grandmother and Great Grandmother fought a good fight, finished her course, and kept the Faith. Born in Joaquin, Texas on January 5, 1939, she passed from this Earth to her Heavenly Home on February 2, 2022 in Tyler, Texas.
Miss Lula Belle was a graduate of Joaquin High School, Class of 1957. At the young age of 9 years old, Lula Belle purposed in her heart to serve the Lord and offered her praise through her beautiful alto singing voice and piano playing. She was known throughout Shelby County Baptist churches for her music, chicken and dumplings and chocolate pie. She was a church pianist or choir member for almost 75 years and enjoyed every moment of that time. She was a faithful member of Logansport Baptist Church for many years and loved her church family and fellow prayer warriors. Lula Belle enjoyed her job at Center Wal-Mart, where she retired after 20 years, and made so many friends, both, coworkers and customers. Lula Belle’s true heart, tho, was her family whom she adored and loved unconditionally.

Charlie Bill Reneau, Sr., 78, of Garrison, Texas, passed away on January 31, 2022, in Garrison, Texas. He was born on October 3, 1943, in Joaquin, Texas to the late Joseph Nelson and Bessie Mae (Mitchell) Reneau. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, February 7, 2022, at Garrison Funeral Home with Bro. Shak Arrington officiating. Interment will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery.

Charlie was born in Joaquin but was raised in Garrison his whole life. He attended Garrison High School and joined the Army when he was just 16 years old. While in the Army he was a paratrooper and served during the Korean War.
Charlie met Lynda in Garrison and they were married on May 7, 1976. They were married for 40 years at the time of her passing in 2016. Charlie served as Master and was a 32nd Degree Mason member of the Garrison Masonic Lodge No. 670 and also of the Order of the Eastern Star of Garrison.
Charlie loved being outside and doing things with his family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and hog trapping. Reneau Roofing, Charlie’s roofing company, has served the Garrison and surrounding communities for over 45 years. He was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church. Charlie Bill will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Sherry Churchman Frazier, 79, of Timpson, Texas, passed away on February 1, 2022, in Nacogdoches, Texas. She was born on June 1, 1942, in Timpson, Texas, to the late Guy and Eva (Kelsey) Churchman. Funeral service will be 12:00 pm on Sunday, February 6, 2022 at Taylor Funeral Home, Timpson, Texas. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on Sunday, February 6, 2022, at Taylor Funeral Home prior to the service.
Sherry was born and raised in the Wedgeworth Community, going to school there until the rural schools went to Timpson. Growing up on Saturday nights, the Churchman sisters could be heard singing on the radio, they would also sing at church and funerals when requested. She attended church at Highway Tabernacle and Corinth Baptist Church. She kept on singing her specials for as long as she was able.
In the summer of ’58 she met the love of her life, Billy Bob, who tagged her with the nickname “His East Texas Pine Knot.” The summer of ’59 they were married on the family farm. They started their family and had three kids; Robert, Ben, and Linda. Sherry had careers from making screens to sewing robes for Sears and Roebuck, working in the public from selling fish, gas to hamburgers. She was known by many names Sherry Ruth, Mama, Gee, Granny Sherry, and Yah Yah, the greatest of all was caregiver she served so many in the most difficult seasons of their lives, the phone rang and she went with love and a willing heart. She loved to cook, go camping, playing 42, and skipbo. Some of her favorite sayings were “Happy Tears”, “Love you more”, and “Boo, I gotcha you.” To say she will be truly missed doesn’t even come close… 84 will never be the same without her.

Uethel G. Hayes departed this life on January 25, 2022, in Tyler Texas at the age of 88.
She was born on July 7, 1933 in Center, Texas to the late Ira Goodwin and Faydell Hamilton Smith. She attended public school in Center in her adolescence. A dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother, Mrs. Hayes never met a stranger. She understood hospitality and generosity; everyone was welcomed at her table.

James Edward Cox, 71, of DeBerry, Texas, passed away on Saturday, January 29, 2022. He was born on December 11, 1950, in Center, Texas to the late Jasper Henry and Lizzie Clara Parker Cox.
He graduated from Shelbyville High School with the class of 1970. Mr. Cox married Martha Ann Ray on May 17, 1974, at Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church in DeBerry where he has been a longtime member. He worked for 28 years at Texas Utilities/Luminant Mining until his retirement in 2010. Mr. Cox was a Mason and a member of the Sam Houston Lodge #32 in Shelbyville. He also served as a volunteer fireman at the Intercommunity V.F.D. for many years.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jaime Cox Halcumb and brothers, Billy Joe Cox and Dewey Cox.

Jackie Ray Kirkwood, 66, of Tenaha, Texas passed peacefully Saturday, January 29, 2022, in Houston.
Born September 2, 1955, in Dallas, Jackie is the son of Wanda Lee Wolfe and Harley Ray Kirkwood.
Jackie earned his Bachelor of Science, Agriculture Education and Master of Science, Agriculture, degree and retired as a Principal. He served seven years in the Naval Reserves, then transferred to the United States Air Force Reserves where he served for 18 years. Jackie was a Deputy City Marshall for Tenaha for 12 years. Most recently, he was serving Shelby County as Justice of the Peace, Precinct 4.
Jackie loved spending time with his grandkids. His hobbies included hiking, hunting, running, and watching the Aggies. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Tenaha, where he taught Sunday school and served in many other capacities.

Lela Janice Ware Windham, 83, of Campti, Texas passed peacefully January 30, 2022 surrounded by loved ones.
Visitation will be Thursday, February 3rd, at 5:00 pm at Watson Funeral Home in Center, Texas. Services will be 10 am, Friday, February 4th, at Watson’s, and will be officiated by Bobby Warr and Derrell Bennett. Interment will be held directly after at Sardis Cemetery.
Born February 22, 1938 to Doris Olene Fountain Roberts and Dewey Arlon Ware, Janice was a woman of fierce determination and infinite love. She spent a majority of her years with her cherished husband, Brother Pat Windham. The pair were married March 21, 1953, and were blessed to see 68 love filled years together. They used these years to spread their unyielding faith in God through the church, and their devotion to family amongst their kinfolk. God’s gift to Janice was an affinity toward nurture. She was the kind of woman who could cook away your troubles and heal your aches with hugs. An unrivaled motherly figure that leaves behind huge shoes for the women in her family to fill, but she also leaves behind recipes, stories, and much more to teach them how. Her motherly love knew no bounds, and every child she met became as near and dear to her as one of her own. That bond of family, direct or not, is what mattered most to Janice. She shrouded those most cherished by her in a love that transcends a lifetime and will follow her family forever. Those who knew her were blessed beyond measure, because to know Janice was to be loved immeasurably.

Fonda Alicia Polley, 55 of Center, Texas, died on Saturday, January 29, 2022, at UT Hospital in Tyler, Texas. Mrs. Polley was born to the late Charles and Patricia Polley in Center, Texas on September 11, 1966.
Graveside service will be on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at McWilliams Cemetery in Shelbyville, Texas at 1pm. Rev. Jeremy Moore will be officiating.
Visitation is on Friday, February 4, 2022, at Hicks Chapel from the hours of 1pm to 5pm and family visitation from 5pm to 6pm. Committal is at McWilliams Cemetery in Shelbyville, Texas.

Born March 21, 1934, Margie is the daughter of Anna Koehn and Henry Smith. She met and married the love of her life, Rev. James H. Stephenson and spent many years serving as a devoted Pastor’s wife. Her favorite position was being “Mama” and “Granny”. To know Margie was to love her. She was most recently a member of Center First United Pentecostal Church.

Edith Elaine Wilburn Risinger, 71, of Shelbyville, Texas went to be with the Lord on January 26, 2022, while surrounded by her daughters at home. She was born November 20, 1950.
Visitation will be Friday, January 28th, from 5pm-8pm at Mangum Funeral Home in Center, Texas. Services will be 2pm, Saturday, January 29th, 2022, at Mangum Chapel. Burial will be at West Hamilton Cemetery in Shelbyville.
Edith grew up in Goober Hill and attended Shelbyville High School. She graduated in 1969. She was in the pep squad all through high school.
Edith met the love of her life while still in high school and they were married on March 20, 1970. They were married 47 years when Troy passed away. Together they raised 4 daughters in a loving home.
Edith attended New Harmony Baptist Church. She was baptized in the Sabine River at a young age. She was also a member of the Eastern Star.
Edith loved going to fox hunts with Troy. She loved when anyone would kill a deer so she could fry the deer meat. She loved frying fish, making mashed potatoes, chicken dumplings, and making deer sausage.
Edith loved to go to revivals every chance she got. She loved going to football games and on band trips to Disney World. She served in Vidor band boosters for many years. She was a night owl and loved her nightly talks with Betty Nell. She loved reading and watching scary movies. The most beloved times were anything to do with her grandkids and great grandkids. Her favorite hobby was fishing with the family.
Edith was a caregiver for many years and truly had a heart for giving.

Pastor Joseph F. Hall, Sr., 74, passed away early Wednesday morning, January 19, 2022 at Nacogdoches Medical Center. He was born May 30, 1947.
He was the Pastor of Benford Chapel Baptist Church of Tenaha for over 40 years.
An evening of remembrance will be held from 6pm until 8pm on Friday, January 28, 2022 at Benford Chapel Baptist Church, 126 Martin Luther King Street, Teneha, Texas 75974. A celebration of life is at 11am on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Union Springs Baptist Church, 228 Kyle Porter Road, Mansfield, LA 71052 with Bishop Joseph Hall, Jr. officiating. He will rest until the Redeemer returns at Faltine Baptist Church Cemetery, Gloster, LA.
