Jimmie Faye Thompson Haight, 87, of Joaquin, passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2021, in Center.

Private services will be held.

Born May 13, 1933, in Shelby County, Jimmie is the daughter of the late Alvin George Thompson and Bertha May Coyle Thompson. She attended Bethlehem Baptist Church in Joaquin.

Marlon Clay Odom, 66, of Shelbyville, passed away Monday, March 1, 2021, in Dallas.

His wishes were to be cremated and no service are planned.

Born November 26, 1954, Marlon is the son of the late Stevenson Gilmer Odom and Charlsie Stewart. He loved fishing and hunting and at one time had prize coon dogs.

George Allen Parrott, 94, of Cypress, formerly of the Folsom Chapel Community, passed away Saturday, February 27, 2021, in Cypress.

Graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, March 6, 2021, at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center with Rev. Darwin Parrott officiating. Visitation will be held prior, beginning at Noon.

Born August 27, 1926, in Wells, George is the son of the late Leonard Darwin (LD) Parrott and Nora Diamond Nail Parrott of Center. Immediately upon graduation from Center High School Class of 1944, George voluntarily enlisted for service to his country, serving in the United States Navy during WWII in the Philippines, Iwo Jima and Okinawa stationed aboard USS LSM327.  Honorably discharged at the rank of Yeoman 3rd Class he was awarded the American Defense and Pacific Theater ribbons. George went on to make a 40-year career at Shell Chemical in Deer Park while raising a family in Pasadena.  Following retirement he moved to the Folsom Chapel Community, where he and his beloved wife Christene lived for 25 years. His last 10 years were spent with his son and family in Cypress.

Preceded in death by parents, Leonard Darwin Parrott and Nora Diamond Parrott; brother, James Leonard Parrott; and wife, Christene Parker Parrott.

He is survived by:

James Allen Hammer, of Garrison, Texas passed away Sunday, February 28, 2021, surrounded by loved ones in Garrison, Texas. He was born on January 23, 1941, in Houston , Texas to the late Calvin Hammer and Nellie Mozelle (Thornton) Hammer. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at Holly Springs Baptist Church, Garrison, Texas with Bro. Clint Williams and Bro. Bobby Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Blair Cemetery, Fm 2667, Timpson, Texas.

Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 10 AM at Holly Springs Baptist Church, Garrison.

James was born in Houston, Texas. He graduated Smiley High School, Houston, Texas. He went to police cadet school following graduation. James joined the Houston Police Department and spent over 20 years with them before retiring. He met the love of his life, Helen Hancock, thorough Helen’s cousin, Darrell Lunsford, and the two were married on April 11, 1964. The two have spent over 57 wonderful years together before his passing. 

As James protected the citizens in Houston he had multiple opportunities to work security at the Astrodome and escort prominent people such as, Elvis Presley, and numerous important officials from other countries as well as the United States. James was a hard working individual. Those that knew James knew he could serve as an electrician, plumber, and fix just about anything. He enjoyed working on his tractor and spending time outdoors. 

James immensely loved watching his children and grandchildren play sports, cheering them on every opportunity he could.  He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He loved the Lord and served him through throughout his life. James was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church, Garrison, Texas.

Saitd Jaimes Morales, 22, of Reklaw, passed away February 26, 2021, in Houston. Born November 25, 1998, in Nacogdoches, Saitd is the son of Rufino Jaimes Reyes and Graciela Jaimes Morales.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 3, 2021, at St. Therese Catholic Church in Center with visitation held from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 2, 2021, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. Father Nelson Muñoz will officiate.  Interment will be at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center.

Leo Anthony “Bubba” Clark, 61, of Center, passed away Friday, February 26, 2021, at Nacogdoches Medical Center in Nacogdoches.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, March 1, 2021, at Watson and Sons Funeral Home in Center. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 2, 2021, at Watson and Sons Chapel with Bro. Gordon Vaughn officiating. Interment will follow at Sardis Cemetery in Shelby County.

Born March 18, 1959, in Carthage, Bubba is the son of Leo Willis Clark and Nelda Jean Graves Clark.

Franklin D. “Jessie” Jones, 87, of Schulenburg, Texas passed away Sunday, February 14, 2021, surrounded by loved ones in Schulenburg, Texas. He was born on July 12, 1933, in Garrison, Texas to the late Warren Jones and Ovie (Shipp) Jones. Funeral service will be held at 2PM on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at Cold Springs Baptist Church, FM 95N, Garrison, Texas with Bro. Blackie Cranford officiating. Interment will follow at Cold Springs Cemetery, Garrison, Texas.

Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 1PM at Cold Springs Baptist Church, Garrison.

Jessie was born and raised in Garrison, Texas. He graduated Garrison High School. Jessie entered the workforce and became a welder-burner for many years. He met the love of his life, Billye Rose Seifert, in Houston, Texas through mutual friends. They were married on August 16, 1958, and the two have spent over 62 years together before his passing. Some might know Jessie as “Pullet” or “Speedy”. These are names he earned throughout the years that were special to some. Jessie enjoyed hunting and fishing. He spent lots of time gardening, and enjoying the outdoors. You could find him watching the Dallas Cowboys playing and attending family reunions. He loved his family and took great care of them. Jessie especially enjoyed spending time with his grandson, Carson.

Wavah Jeanette “Bogue” Benoit, 86 years old, passed away at her homeplace in Timpson, Texas on February 22, 2021. Born November 11, 1934 in Timpson, Texas to Anna Lois “Reeves” Hudson and Horace T. Bogue. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Information will be made available soon.

Jeanette lived a full life and believed in hard work as a rule of thumb, as taught by example by her grandfather John Lumas Bogue. As a young lady she went out into the workforce experiencing many jobs including retail, movie theaters, and grocery stores. 

In the early 60’s she operated a “Room and Board” house with 17 rooms and housed 32 occupants. In the late 70’s she began collecting antiques and learned to repair antique clocks. She eventually opened two antique stores. She was always fascinated with and had a love for restoring old things and finding a bargain. Her husband’s job began to lead them to many different states, Jeanette loved the travels and enjoyed meeting new people. 

In ’86 she bought a breeder farm and began to learn all about its operations as the owner, working from sunup to sundown. After 10 years she retired back to Timpson. Anyone driving down Rosehill Road might see her out mowing, pulling up weeds, or climbing onto the roof. Strangers wondered who lived on that “neatly kept” property with the sign that read “Nutbush City Limits.”

Her awesome sense of humor attracted many people to her. She was a great mentor, and she was loved by many. Some may feel the mold was broken after this dear mother of ours was born. Such a legacy. Let us add that if she picked on you or had a nickname for you, you held a special place in her heart.

She’s preceded in death by husbands: Travis Kammerer and Rodney Benoit, brothers: Joseph Wayne Bogue and David Bogue, son: Derek Shane Benoit, whom she regarded as her angel who flew close to the ground, and son-in-law: Eric Fox.

She is survived by:

Juanita Bell Sample Chandler, 86, of Center passed away February 23, 2021, in Center.

Visitation will be held from Noon to 2pm, Friday, February 26, 2021 at Watson and Sons Funeral Home. Services will be held 2:00 p.m. with Bro. Kevin Windham and Diane Sample officiating. Interment will follow at Sample Cemetery.

Juanita was born February 28, 1934 in Houston to MeeMee “Cub” Sample and Oma Permenter Sample. On June 29, 1951, Juanita married James Chandler. The couple spent many years creating a strong marriage, building a loving Christian home and raising their five children always providing the love and support they needed.

In 1980, Juanita and James moved to Shelby County and purchased a poultry farm. They spent many years raising chickens and enjoying East Texas. Juanita loved traveling and went several times to visit her niece, Janice in Germany and surrounding countries. Her traveling companions were her; sister, Oleta; sister-in-law, Ruth and niece Dianne. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and enjoyed telling stories about the things they would do together.

Juanita was a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas and received recognition of “A Real Granddaughter” of James Bedford Sample who was a citizen of the Republic of Texas. She was of the Baptist faith. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
