February 7, 2017 - The boys in green were back at home this past weekend as they took on Vernon College from Vernon Texas.  Panola won three straight earning the sweep in the series and extending their record to 5-1 on the season.  Panola will be back at Jim Reeves Memorial Field this Friday, February 10th and 11th as they host Coastal Bend College from Beeville Texas.  Game times set for 7pm on Friday and the double header starts at 1pm on Saturday.
 
Panola Jumps Out To Early Lead In Victory Over Vernon In Game 1

Panola College defeated Vernon College 9-2 thanks to a strong start. Panola scored on a passed ball and a single by Colby Price (Nederland, TX) in the second inning.

Panola scored three runs in the fifth inning on a fielder's choice by Michael Lawson (Conroe, TX) and a groundout by Cal Smith (Fort Worth, TX).

Cayne Ueckert (Jasper, TX) earned the win for Panola. He threw four innings, surrendering one run, five hits, striking out four, and walking zero.

Panola collected eight hits. Chandler Morris (The Woodlands, TX) and Christian Boulware (Dallas, TX) each collected multiple hits for Panola. Austin De Leon (Frisco, TX), Colby Price, Logan Bailey (Hallsville, TX), and Austin Blakeley (Hallsville, TX) each collected two hits to lead Panola to victory.
 
Hallsville Duo Team Up As Panola Shuts Out Vernon In Game 2

Panola College defeated Vernon College 7-0 in game two of the double header on Friday at Jim Reeves Memorial Field as Hallsville duo teamed up for a shutout.

Panola captured the lead in the second inning. Andrew Pace (Beaumont, TX) singled on a 0-1 count, scoring John Mike Bounds (Beckville, TX) .Panola scored four runs in the third inning on a home run by Bounds. 

Logan Bailey (Hallsville, TX) earned the win for Panola. He tossed five innings, allowing zero runs, two hits, striking out nine, and walking zero.  Colton Brasher (Hallsville, TX) finished the game striking out two and allowing zero runs in two innings of work.

Panola collected 11 hits. Colby Price (Nederland, TX) had three, Colton Oberthier (Hallsville, TX), Bounds, Pace, and each collected two hits.
 
Julian Flores Collects Four Hits As Panola Defeats Vernon 11-3 And Completes The Sweep

Julian Flores (Richland, TX) gave Vernon College fits, as he bagged four hits in Panola’s 11-3 victory on Saturday. Flores singled in the second, homered in the third, singled in the fifth, and doubled in the seventh.

Panola earned the victory and completed their first series sweep of the year.  Vernon's big inning came in the top of the third plating three runs.  Panola answered with three runs of their own and was never pressured the rest of the way.

In the third Colby Price (Nederland, TX) homered off of Gatnes, driving in one run and Flores homered off of Gatnes, driving in two runs.

Taylor Tomlin (Center, TX) earned the win for Panola.  He tossed two and a third innings, allowing zero runs, one hit, striking out one, and walking zero.
Ty Miller (Bullard, TX) started the game for Panola. He threw two and two-thirds innings, giving up three runs, four hits, and striking out one.

Panola had 16 hits in the game. Flores, Price, Duke Ellis (Nacogdoches, TX), Colton Oberthier (Hallsville, TX), Andrew Pace (Beaumont, TX), and Austin De Leon (Frisco, TX) each collected multiple hits for Panola.

De Leon, Pace, Oberthier, and Ellis. Panola was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Logan Bailey (Hallsville, TX) had the most chances in the field with 13.

February 5, 2017 - Carthage, Texas – The Panola College men’s basketball team defeated Bossier Parish Community College in overtime here Saturday evening, 95-85. The win propels the Ponies record to 16-7 and 8-4 in Region 14 play. “Two teams just left it all out on the floor this evening.” Stated Head Coach Grant McMillan. “We found a way to win a close ball game.” He added.

In a high scoring first half, neither team could pull away from each other which led to a 44 all halftime score. It was much of the same in the second half as neither team had a lead bigger than six points in entire frame. Down by two with 29 seconds remaining in the ball game, Devyn Wilson was fouled and proceed to make both his free throws to tie the ball game up at 82 each. Bossier Parish held the ball for the last shot but failed to get an attempt off. Overtime was all Panola. KJ Byers netted two three pointers and scored eight points in the extra frame.

Byers was high point man for the evening scoring 25. Devyn Wilson and Tope Arikawe continued their impressive sophomore campaign adding 15 points each. Keith Hayes added 11 and Marlon Taylor chipped in 10 points. Eric McGill recorded 10 assists. As a team, Panola shot 75 percent from the free throw line and forced 20 Bossier Parish turnovers.

The Panola men continue Region 14 play when they head to Paris this upcoming Wednesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM.

February 5, 2017 - The Fillies went down to Houston, Texas to face nationally ranked San Jacinto Saturday afternoon, and came out unsuccessful, 60-71.

In the first three quarters, the Fillies did not have the energy or answers for San Jacinto's hot shooting. The Gators would go 51% from the field on the night, holding the Fillies to only 29%. Quarter after quarter, the Gators of San Jac just came out hot. Their largest lead on the night was at 26 points in the third quarter with a score of 54-28.

The Fillies only lead came in the first two minutes of the game as Freshman Ekaterina Karchevskaya hit a long shot from behind the arch. San Jac would go on to win the quarter 22-13. Going into half time, the Fillies found themselves down 24-38, and again down at the end of the third 36-60. 

A new spark arose as the Fillies jumped out in the fourth with a 20-8 run before the Gators gained some consistency. PC got within 8 with a minute left to go, but it was too late for Panola. 

Freshman Patience Okpe would lead the Fillies with 18 as Ekaterina Karchevskaya added a solid 11. Panola was able to force 19 turnovers and come away with 7 steals. 

The Fillies return home for the next two upcoming weeks. Their first match up is against Blinn College on Wednesday, January 8th, at 5:30 p.m. Then, Saturday the 11th is another home game against Coastal Bend College at 2:00 pm, which will also be the Fillies Alumni Game. February 3, 2017 - The Panola Fillies went down to Lufkin, Texas on Wednesday night and could not connect in the loss versus Angelina College. "We just have to start games better, we came out too flat", stated Head Coach Eddie Kite.

Panola found themselves down at half time once again, 35-43. The numbers were low for Panola in every category at that point, from rebounds to field-goal percentage. In the start of the third quarter, Panola would play as best as they could and chip away at the score little by little. Genesis Rivera would go one her own scoring run of 8-0 to bring the Fillies within 9 at 59-50 heading into the fourth.

The game would come close in the last chapter, but it just wouldn't be enough for the Fillies as they got their 5th loss in conference. Sophomore Genesis Rivera led the team with 18 points on the night, and Freshmen Nailah Beyah-Bount and Daria Eremeeva would both chip in 10.

The Fillies hit the road again this Saturday against #22 San Jacinto-North at 2 p.m.

February 2, 2017 Kilgore, Texas – The Panola College men’s basketball defeated Kilgore College here Wednesday night, 75-66. The victory raises the Ponies record to 15-7 and 7-4 in Region 14 play. “It was fun to watch out effort in the second half.” Stated head coach Grant McMillan. “When our guys execute they find another level.” He added.

KJ Byers with the three point attempt.Kilgore maintained a steady lead the first half and took a 27-30 halftime lead. Panola came out on fire in the second half taking momentum with a 41-14 run. The monstrous output gave Panola their biggest lead of 71-44.

Devyn Wilson led the way offensively with 16 points. KJ Byers and Eric McGill both netted 13 points. Rounding out the double-digit scores was Tope Arikawe with 10. Panola only committed six turnovers and shot 46 percent from the three point line.

Panola continues Region 14 play when they host Bossier Parish Community College this Satuday, February 4th. Tip-off is set for 4:00 PM on the campus of Panola College.

(Photo by Brian Naples)January 31, 2017 - Panola College plans to offer academic courses with a field trip to New York City during the Summer 1 session.  The field trip is scheduled for June 13-17. During the trip students will visit the Ellis Island History Museum, Liberty Island, the Finance Museum, the Federal Reserve, and the 9-11 Memorial, with walking tours of Wall Street and Central Park.

Jennifer Coon, Panola College professor of accounting and business, says, "Once students have visited these places they will be free to enjoy the city. They can go to a Broadway production, see a ball game, and just go explore."

Students may earn up to six hours of academic credit in one of three courses: ECON 2301, Principles of Macroeconomics; GOVT 2305, Federal Government, and HIST 1302, U.S. History II. The economics and government courses will be offered as internet courses on Canvas, while the history course will be a face-to-face class. Tuition and fees for the academic courses are in addition to the trip cost for Panola College students. That fee is $1,100.

Those interested in taking the trip without earning college credit may sign up through the Continuing Education Department. Cost for the field trip only through Continuing Education will be approximately $1,250.

Trip cost includes airfare (but not checked baggage), hotel, unlimited metro pass, airport bus and entrance fees to museums. Participants will be responsible for their own meals and any additional events or activities they choose. The flight will depart from Dallas-Fort Worth Airport and land at New York's LaGuardia Airport. At the base price, hotel arrangements will be four people to a room, but each person will have a single bed. The hotel is centrally located in Manhattan.

Participants must be at least 18 years of age, sign all applicable forms, pass a background check to visit the Federal Reserve and pay applicable fees by the due dates.  A $600 non-refundable payment must be paid by Tuesday, April 11, to lock in a spot for the trip. Balance will be due on May 11.

January 30, 2017 - Panola College opened the lid on the 2017 season this past weekend as they hosted Baton Rouge Community College for a three game series at Jim Reeves Memorial Field in Carthage TX.  Panola took the series winning two out of the three games.  Panola now 2-1 on the season will host Vernon College for a three game series at Jim Reeves Memorial Field on Friday February 3rd and 4th.  First pitch is set   

Panola College Best Baton Rouge CC In Shootout, 17-8

Pitchers had a tough day during the game between Panola and Baton Rouge, as the two teams put up 25 runs combined in a 17-8 Panola win.

The teams combined for 26 hits, including eight extra base hits.

Nine runs in the opening three innings allowed Panola to easily put away Baton Rouge. A sacrifice fly by Chandler Morris (The Woodlands, TX), an RBI double by Christian Boulware (Dallas, TX), an RBI single by Duke Ellis (Nacogdoches, TX), an RBI single by Andrew Pace (Beaumont, TX), an RBI double by Michael Lawson (Conroe, TX), and a walk by Morris during the second inning fueled Panola’s offense early.

Ellis was hot from the plate for Panola. Ellis went 4-5, drove in one and scored four runs.

Cayne Ueckert (Jasper, TX) recorded the win for Panola. He allowed two runs over 3 1/3 innings. He struck out four, walked two and surrendered three hits.

Panola piled on two more runs in the bottom of the third. Pace kicked things off with a single, bringing home Boulware.

Panola scored four more in the seventh on an RBI single by Colby Price (Nederland, TX), a fielder's choice, and a two-run single by George Valdez (Forney, TX).

Panola College survived Baton Rouge’s surge and put up three runs of its own in the eighth when Austin De Leon (Frisco, TX) hit a two run single.

Early Lead In Game Two Gives Panola College Victory Over Baton Rouge CC, 13-3

Panola jumped out to an early lead on Baton Rouge and captured a 13-3 victory on Saturday in game one of the two game double header at Jim Reeves Memorial Field (Carthage, TX).

Five runs in the first three innings allowed Panola to put the game away early.

Colby Price (Nederland, TX) racked up three RBIs on one hit when he homered in the fifth inning.

Logan Bailey (Hallsville, TX) put together a nice outing. Baton Rouge managed just one hit off of him, who allowed no earned runs, walked two and struck out five during his four innings of work.

Panola added two more runs in the bottom of the third. A sacrifice fly scored Austin Blakeley (Hallsville, TX) for the inning's first run.

Panola quickly matched Baton Rouge’s strong inning with a four-run inning of its own in the eighth. Panola scored on an RBI double by Duke Ellis (Nacogdoches, TX), a hit by pitch, a fielder's choice, and a walk by Logan Bailey.

Game Three’s Sixth-Inning Lead Change Vaults Baton Rouge Past Panola College, 8-6

A tight game was decided in the sixth inning as Panola fell to Baton Rouge 8-6 in seven innings on Saturday in game two of the double header at Jim Reeves Memorial Field (Carthage, TX).

Duke Ellis (Nacogdoches, TX) went a perfect 2-2 at the plate for Panola. He singled in the second and sixth innings.

Ryan Ratliff (Emory, TX) took the loss for Panola. He lasted just 2 1/3 innings, walked none, struck out two, and allowed three runs.

Panola jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Panola College Spring 2017's threat began with a single by Austin De Leon (Frisco, TX).

Baton Rouge went up for good in the sixth, scoring three runs on an error and an RBI single.

January 29, 2017 - PC entered the second half of conference play with a home opener against Jacksonville College and came out with a 78-62 win.

What seemed to be a repeat of the first time around, PC easily took the victory from the Jaguars for the second time this season. The Fillies are now sitting at 7-4 in conference and 16-5 overall.

From the jump, Panola had control of the game. The closest Jacksonville would get was within 1 after their first basket, but the Fillies pulled away quickly. The Fillies outscored Jacksonville every quarter and caused 20 turnovers playing solid defense and shooting 45% on the night.

Sophomores Genesis Rivera and Denasia Watson both had perfect games from the field. Rivera would shoot 5-5 with 2 three's, while Watson went 3-3 with 2 three's as well. Rivera finished the night with 18 points and 6 points, leading the Fillies. Freshman Patience Okpe added 14 and Sophomore Charlynn Perry added 13. This is the 14th game this season that the Fillies have had 3 or more score in double figures.

The next game will be on February 1st, at 5:30 against Angelina in Lufkin, TX. The last time the two teams met, the Fillies won 97-85.

January 29, 2017 - Carthage, Texas – The Panola College men’s basketball team defeated Tyler Junior College here Saturday afternoon, 76-61. With the win, Panola raises their record to 14-7 and 6-4 in Region 14 play. “Plain and simple, this was a team win.” Stated Head Coach Grant McMillan. “It was fun to see our guys fly around tonight.” He added

The Ponies came out to a sluggish start finding themselves down 10-1. After a media timeout, a steady offensive attack found Panola take a 14 point lead 40-26. Panola took a Halftime lead of 10 with a score of 45-35. The second half saw more of the same as Tyler only came to within seven. 60-53 with just under 11 minutes remaining in the game. Tyler never came any close and Panola took the 15 point victory.

Leading the offensive charge was Eric McGill and KJ Byers who both tallied 17 Points. Byers also chased down 14 rebounds. Marlon Taylor came off the bench and recorded 10 rebounds. As a team, Panola recorded 49 rebounds and only had seven turnovers.

Panola will continue Region 14 play when they head to Kilgore College this upcoming Wednesday, February 1st. Tip-off is set for 7:00 PM on the campus of Kilgore College.
