March 26, 2021 - The Roughrider Sports Team is proud to announce it is carrying the Rider Soccer Playoffs!

Coverage begins tonight as the Roughriders take on the Livingston Lions in Hudson. Game begins at 6:00pm; pregame begins at 5:45pm.

In the pregame, we'll visit with Coach Martinez and have a special visit with senior Jesus Bustos. At halftime, the Gaddy's Medical Halftime Spotlight shines on Coach Holyfield of Lady Rider Soccer as she visits about the ladies' season. During the Farmers State Bank Postgame, we visit with the Center Motor Company Player of the Game.

March 26, 2021 - Come join the Timpson FFA for their 1st Annual Timpson FFA Bass Tournament on Lake Sam Rayburn off Jackson Hill Marina! 

Registration will be from 4:30pm-6:00pm on Friday, April 2nd at the marina for boats that wish to trailer and starting again at 6:00am morning of April 3rd. Registration is $100 per boat (2 team max) and an optional $20 Big Bass side pot. 50% pay out to the top 10% of the field and additional awards and prizes to top 3 placing boats and big bass.

Tickets are $10 each or 6 for $50. Tickets can be purchased ahead of time or at Jackson Hill Marina the morning of the competition.

March 25, 2021 - On Thursday morning, March 25, 2021, Shelbyville High School's Brooke Elliott signed a college letter of intent to attend Cisco College on a basketball scholarship.

On hand for the event in the SISD board room were family, coaches, school officials, teammates and fellow students.

Brooke has been a standout for the Lady Dragons basketball team. Brooke has averaged a double-double the last two years in points and rebounds. She has been selected as an All-District player for the last three years and was Newcomer of the Year as a freshman. She plans to major in Education and has goals of eventually playing basketball at the highest level.

Brooke is the daughter of Robert and Dawn Elliott. Again, Congratulations to Ms. Brooke Elliott. Go Dragons!!! Go Wranglers!

Center Roughriders Ballpark on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 –

The Center Lady Roughriders struggled early offensively against the Carthage Lady Bulldogs and they eventually lost the District 17 4A varsity softball opener by a 10-3 score.

The contest saw Carthage’s Karsyn Isbell hit safely four times and the Lady ‘Dogs held a 17-5 hit advantage at game’s end.

Center’s offensive highlight was when Ryleigh Youngblood blasted a lead-off solo homer over the right-centerfield wall in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Kaiya Hubbard threw a complete game for Center and she  struck out three Bulldogs on the day.

The Lady ‘Riders rallied, in each the fifth and seventh innings, but left multiple base runners stranded.

Center will travel to Carthage on Friday, March 26, 2021 where JV action will begin at 4:30 p.m. and Varsity district softball action will follow at 6 p.m.

Tenaha Cole DePriest Ballpark on Friday, March 19, 2021 –

The Tenaha Tiger varsity baseball team suffered their sixth straight loss on Friday at home. The team lost to the visiting Martinsville Pirates by a 20-0 score in a District 23 2A contest.

Alex Tyner pitched the first four innings for THS and held MHS to five runs on 4 hits, three errors and four walks. Overall, four Tigers pitchers allowed the Pirates 13 hits and 14 free bases. The Tigers committed six errors on the day.

The MHS Pirates gave up 3 hits and 2 walks to Tenaha.

The Tigers will next play the Mount Enterprise Wildcats at Tenaha on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at 4 p.m.

Joaquin High School on March 16, 2021 –

 

The Joaquin Lady Rams varsity softball team defeated the visiting Garrison Lady Bulldogs by a 9-0 score on Tuesday. The win moved Joaquin’s record to 11-1 overall and they are 3-0 in District 22 2A play.

The Lady Rams gained a 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the first inning when Ebbie McCann reached base on a Garrison error. She advanced to third on a JJ Bass infield hit and then scored later on a passed ball behind the catcher.

Garrison struggled at the plate but gained their first base runner when Chloe Reneau led the top of the fourth inning off with a single to leftfield. GHS finished the day with 2 hits and a walk offensively.

The 1-run lead held up until a rally in the bottom of the fifth inning which saw JHS add 5 more runs on 3 hits, a walk and a GHS error. The highlight was a JJ Bass inside-the-park home run. Joaquin led 6-0.

Joaquin was able to add three scores by Juli King, McCann, and Bass to their tally in the bottom of the sixth inning to gain the 9-run win.

This game saw Shelbyville High School graduate Caleigh Sparks return to Shelby County as an assistant and first-base coach for the GHS Lady Bulldogs.

Joaquin will travel to Mount Enterprise on Friday, Marsh 19, 2021 for a 5:30 p.m. game with the Lady Wildcats.

March 16, 2021 - The Center Lady Riders home Softball game versus Stanley scheduled for Thursday, March 18, has been moved to Saturday, March 20 in Stanley. 7pm is the starting time.

Center Roughrider’s Field on Friday, March 12, 2021 –

Last Friday saw the Center Lady Roughriders Varsity Softball team fall to the Central Heights Lady Blue Devils by a 6-4 score.

The Lady Blue Devils jumped out to a 2-0 advantage in the top of the third inning when Trinity Bailey blasted a 2-run homer over the leftfield wall. In the fourth inning Central Heights extended their lead to 4-0 with a rally fueled by four hits.

Center got on the board in the bottom of the fourth frame when Rylee Youngblood led off with a single to leftfield and was later driven in by an Aryah Turner single.

Center got scores from Shakadria Hubbard, Taylor Horton and Carson Crouch during a rally in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the game at 4-4.

Bailey singled to give CHHS a runner in the top of the seventh inning and Brittany McLaughlin hit a 2-run homer over the centerfield wall which gave the Blue Devils a 6-4 advantage. Bailey was able to strike out all three batters she faced in the bottom half of the inning to close out the game.

Center’s record now stands at 5-11-1 they have one more pre-district game on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 when they host the Hemphill Lady Hornets with JV beginning at 5:30 p.m. and Varsity play starts at 7 p.m.
