February 24, 2021 - Center ISD announces several athletic event changes.

Basketball
Boys Playoffs Round 2 will be tonight (February 24) at 7:30 at Corsicana High School. Will play winner of LBJ-Austin/Gateway College Prep. Go to www.cisd.org/tickets and then scroll down to the bottom.

Track
The track meet that was scheduled for Thursday, February 25 at Center High School has been cancelled

Tennis (Updated)
The Spring Hill tennis tournament scheduled for tomorrow has been rescheduled for Thursday, March 11th due to the forecast.

Powerlifting (Updated)
Powerlifting will be traveling to Sabine NOT Garrison tomorrow, Thursday, February 25.

Softball
Softball will be attending a tournament at Nacogdoches Thursday and Friday, February 25 and 26.

Baseball (Updated)
JV Baseball is not be travelling today, Thursday but JV will travel to Lufkin on Friday, February 26th only. Varsity will travel to Hudson on Thursday and Friday, February 25 and 26.

Soccer (Updated)

  • Boys Soccer team will not be traveling tonight to Henderson. Game has been cancelled due to weather. 
  • Girls will still be playing tonight, February 25th at Henderson.
  • Girls and Boys Soccer have a home game Friday, February 26 vs Spring Hill starting at 5.

February 25, 2021 - Center Independent School District is proud to announce our newest members of the Roughrider family. Coach Ricky Meeks will be our new Athletic Director and Head Football Coach. Coach Meeks will be joined by his wife, Laci and their sons Blake, Beckett, Sloane and their daughter Emmie Jo.

Currently Coach Meeks is the Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at Alto ISD, but will be joining the Roughrider family on March 1st. Coach Meeks has 14 years of coaching experience, with the last 3 as the Athletic Director / Head Football Coach in Alto. He has state championship experience as an assistant coach for his dad, the legendary Dickey Meeks, in 2010 at Henderson ISD. Coach Meeks brings a 21-13 head coaching record. In 2019, Coach Meeks led Alto to a district championship, which earned him the 2019 District Coach of the Year. Coach Meeks played college football at Northwestern State from 2004-2006. He and his wife, Laci, are both Louisiana natives and both alumni of Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA.

Coach Ricky Meeks comes from a coaching family. His dad is the late Dickey Meeks. The elder Meeks has been elected into the East Texas Coaches Hall of Fame in 2018. He was also a coach in the state of Texas for over 30 years, amassing over 250 wins to go along with two state championships, Chapel Hill (1989) and Henderson (2010).

February 25, 2021 - The Dallas Morning News has announced the Texas Sports Writers Association 2020-2021 Class 4A All State Football Team, and Center ISD had the honor of having three of its young men make the list:

Colton Crawford - 1st team Defensive End
Keamodre Horace - 2nd Team Running Back
Marques Hall - Honorable Mention Defensive Back 

This is great news for these kiddos as well as for the team. Congratulations, Roughriders!

New Summerfield High School on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 –

The Timpson Bears Varsity Basketball Team fell to the Cushing Bearkats by a 59-58 score in a UIL Area Playoff Elimination game.

Timpson trailed 11-2 points at the end of the first stanza. The Bears outscored the Bearkats by a 28-16 margin to take a 30-27 lead into the locker room at the halftime intermission.

Cushing outpaced Timpson 15-9 during the third quarter and they took a 42-39 advantage into the final period.

Timpson’s season saw them finish with a 11-10 record. They were the third seed representative from District 23 2A. The Bears were led by Terry Bussey with 18 points. Other Bears in double figures were Hunter Tipton 11, Donovan Crocket and LT Washington each scored ten points.

Cushing will move on to the UIL Regional Quarterfinals with a 18-7 record. They are the third seed representing District 21. They were led by Deuce Garrett with 19 points.

New Summerfield High School on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 –

The Timpson Lady Bears varsity basketball team fell to the Union Grove Lady Lions by a very close 43-41 score. The game was played at New Summerfield Hornets Gymnasium, a neutral site and was a UIL Regional Quarterfinal Round Elimination game.

The game was close throughout the contest with Timpson leading 9-7 midway through the first quarter. THS trailed UGHS 15-13 at the conclusion of the first period. The Lady Lions held a 33-31 advantage at the end of the third stanza.

Timpson finished the season with a 25-5 win-loss record and represented the first seed of District 21 2A. The Lady Bears were led by Claire Johnson with 11 points and Johna Cruse with 10.

Union Grove moves on with a 21-4 record representing District 23 2A. They were led by Macey Alston with 22 points.

February 24, 2021 - Tonight, The Roughrider Broadcast Team presents Round 2 of the State Playoffs, brought to you by Sabine State Bank. The Riders will travel to Coriscan to play the Austin LBJ Leopards. Center defeated China Spring in Round 1 on Saturday, setting up a rare Wednesday, February 24th match-up for Round 2. Tip off is 7:30pm.

The Ray Jones Chevrolet Pre-Game Show begins at 7:10pm. The Broadcast Team sets the table for Round 2 featuring a visit with Coach Munoz, then they sit down with Rider senior Jake Liker.

Then at halftime the Abundant Love Ministries Halftime Show features a visit with former Roughrider player and current coach Michael Cloudy.

As the game concludes, we'll talk to the Ford Tough Player of the Game during the Farmers State Bank Postgame Show.

Again, tip-off at 7:30pm; pre-game at 7:10pm.

February 24, 2021 - Tenaha Tigers vs Garrison Bulldogs Area Championship game is Thursday, February 25 at 6:30pm in the Timpson Event Center.

Tickets are $5 each and all fans must have a pass that is only available at the TISD high school or Administration office in order to be able to pay at the gate. We are limited to 225 total passes and once the players are able to accommodate their family pass request, the balance of passes will be made available. Probably around 1:30 today.

Cushing High School on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 –

The Tenaha Lady Tigers Varsity Basketball Team saw their season come to an end after a 61-49 point loss to the Douglass Indians. The Area Playoff game was played at Cushing High School a neutral location.

Douglass gained an early 11-8 point lead midway through the first quarter and led 18-12 going into the second period. They held a 32-26 advantage over THS at the midway point.

Tenaha battled to catch up but Douglass junior post Mariah Neal got hot and helped DHS move out to a 49-39 lead by the end of the third stanza. Neal led all scorers with 35 points for the day. Teammate Josie Watson scored 18 points for Douglass.

Tenaha was led by Tiyanna Dagley with 26 points. Kamari Gray added 11 points to the Tenaha score sheet.

Tenaha finished the season with a 15-5 overall record.

Douglass stands at 24-0 and will now face Hawkins in the quarterfinals of the UIL Basketball Playoffs at a time and location to be decided later.

February 23, 2021 - The Center JV tennis team will not be traveling to Longview on Wednesday, February 24th and will instead be traveling with the Varsity on Friday, February 26 to compete in the Spring Hill tournament.

They will be practicing after school Wednesday and Thursday before the Friday tournament.

February 22, 2021 - Lady Tigers Area Playoff versus Douglass is scheduled for 6pm Tuesday, February 23 in Cushing.

Tigers Bi-District Playoff vs Broaddus is scheduled for 6pm Tuesday, February 23 in Wells.

Tenaha will also host two games on Tuesday in the Special Events Center (SEC):

  • Longview vs Nacogdoches in SEC 6pm
  • Woden vs Union Grove in SEC 8pm
