Hilburn Scruggs

Hilburn Scruggs, 86, of Joaquin, passed away Monday, January 13, 2020, in Mansfield, Louisiana.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 18, 2020, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center with Bro. J.C. Lewis officiating.  Following will be a military honors service under the direction of VFW Post #8904. Interment will be held at Lone Cedar Cemetery in Joaquin. Visitation will be held prior to the service, beginning at 11:00 a.m.

Mr. Scruggs was born September 5, 1933, to John Norris Scruggs and Annis Mae Lee Scruggs.  He served in the United States Army and went on to work in the oilfield from which he retired.  Mr. Scruggs loved working and spending time with family and friends.  He was a member of Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by the love of his life of 64 years, Glenda Gail Scruggs; parents, John Norris Scruggs and Annis Mae Lee Scruggs; sisters, Infant Mae Dell Scruggs, Lera Childress, Avis Lambert Lout, Errollene Brimberry, and Audrey Dyer; brothers, Hervey Scruggs and W.L. “Chuck” Scruggs.

Pallbearers will be Chad Adams, Jody Baillio, Kane Diven, Noah Scruggs, Race English, Cam English, and Titan Diven. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Dickerson, Newton Johnson, and the whole Ram House crew.

A special thank you to Dr. Billy Bickham and nurse, Gloria, for their compassionate care over the years, along with Pharmacist Benny Owens with Headrick’s Drug Store in Logansport, Louisiana.
