Sybil Bryce, 86, of Houston, passed away Friday, December 29, 2006.

Graveside services will be held 11 am at Pleasant Grove cemetery on Tuesday, January 2, 2006.

She is preceded in death by her husband James Adlee Bryce.

She is survived by Son: Robert Bryce and wife Penny of Houston and Brother in law: Jeral Bryce and wife Marie of Houston.


James Granvel Hopkins, 79, of Center, passed away Friday, December 29, 2006 at his home. He was born April 6, 1927 in the Aiken Community of Shelby County, Texas to James Clyde Hopkins and Neva Cornelia Bridges Hopkins. Mr. Hopkins was a switchman for Southwestern Bell and was a member of The Southwestern Bell Pioneer Club. He was a member and Deacon at The First Baptist Church of Center where he was in Dr. Hooker's Sunday School class. Mr. Hopkins was also a 50+ year member of the Sam Samford Masonic Lodge #149, and served in the US Army.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, December 31,2006 at The First Baptist Church of Center with Rev. Michael Hale and Bro. Carl Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center.

Pallbearers will be the Deacons of the First Baptist Church. Honorary pallbearer will be J.W. Adams.

Frank L. Anderson, Sr. went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 28, 2006. He was born on March 20, 1918 in San Antonio, Texas to Frank and Helena Anderson.

Frank was preceded in death by his daughter Nancy Foster. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Dorothy Childs Anderson, son, Frank L. Anderson, Jr. and wife Edna Faye of Bryan, Texas, brother, Orin Anderson of Helotes, Texas, special friends, J.W. Braden and Catherine Reed and many nieces, nephews and friends. Being loved my many relatives and friends, Frank will be dearly missed but never forgotten.

Frank graduated from the University of Texas in Austin, Summa Cum Laude, on August 25, 1941 with a B.S. degree in chemical engineering. He was an engineer in the petroleum industry working in the United States, Antigua, West Indies and in India. He served his country during WWII in the United States Navy. Frank was an accomplished bridge player, a self taught organist and loved singing gospel songs praising the Lord. His favorite song was "Life's Railway to Heaven". Frank loved nature, his home, and keeping his yard beautiful. Frank was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Center.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Saturday, December 30, 2006. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, December 31, 2006 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center with Rev. Greg Megill officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Silas, Texas.

Avis LaFay Stoker - age 68 of Altus, Oklahoma passed away Friday, December 22, 2006 at Comanche County memorial Hospital in Lawton, Oklahoma.

She was born March 31, 1938 in San Augustine, Texas to Otis Earl Amburn and Vassie Lee (Spann) Amburn. Avis had lived in the Altus area for the last 45 years moving there from Center, Texas. She worked at Jackson County Memorial Hospital as a Licensed Practical Nurse for several years.

Alvis enjoyed fishing, cooking, sewing and playing dominoes, but her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family and her grandchildren.

She is survived by her five children, Flint Calloway of Center, Texas, James Calloway of Altus, OK., Selena Crawford and her husband Steve Windham of Center,TX., Delana Stoker of Altus. OK., Wynoka Crawford and her husband Jeff of Altus, OK.,

She is also survived by her 13 grandchildren and 7 great- grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Odis Earl Amburn Jr..

Funeral services for Avis Stoker are scheduled for Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at 2 p at Watson and Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Center, Texas. Interment will follow at the Spann Cemetery in Center. Local arrangements are made under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Altus, OK.

Cora McSwain, 91, of Center, passed away December 21, 2006 at a Nacogdoches hospital. She was born April 21, 1915 in Eldorado, Arkansas to Henry and Mineola Fletcher Spells. Ms. McSwain was a member of Hurst Street Church of Christ & Mt. Pleasant Church of Christ.

William "Bill" Joseph Barton, 73, of Center, passed away Monday, December 18, 2006 at his home. He was born July 9, 1933 in Center, Texas to Joseph Edward Barton and Corene Busbee Barton. Mr. Barton was a graduate of Center High School. He also graduated from North Texas University with a BS Degree in accounting, SMU with a law degree and the New York University with a degree in taxation. He was also a member of the Kappa Alpha Order with a life-long affiliation of 52 years. Mr. Barton was a member of the First Baptist Church of Center. He was employed by a number of major companies as a CEO and traveled all over the world prior to returning to Center in 1979. Mr. Barton opened his law office in Center in 1980 where he practiced in family law, real estate and taxation.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, December 20, 2006 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center with Rev. Michael Hale officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park.

Among Mrs. Higdon's survivors are two sons, Bobby Dean Cheatwood, of Carthage, and Roy Gene Cheatwood, of Joaquin, four daughters, Judy Choate and Carolyn C. Lee, both of Logansport, and Janice Bonner and Patti Hogg, both of Carthage, two sisters, Betty Daniels and Lynda Palmer, both of Mansfield, and one brother, Don Pierce, of Logansport.

Edgar Loren "Cootie" Enmon, 81, of Ponchatouia, Louisiana died Saturday, December, 2, 2006. He was born July 27, 1925 in Center to Charlie and Minnie Green Enmon. Mr. Enmon was a US Army Veteran of WWII, having received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and numerous other accommodation. He was a fifty year member of the Shelbyville Masonic Lodge and a 32nd degree Shriner in Tyler.

Funeral services will be held at 10 am Tuesday, December 5, 2006 at Watson and Sons Chapel in Center with Mr. Tim Perkins and Rev. Gene Kirkley officiating. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Park.

Surviving are his wife, Wanda Askew Enmon and son, Tom Enmon, three daughters, Loren Enmon, Lesa Enmon, Lynn E. Marino, step son, David Lout, step daughter, Diana Ballard, fourteen grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Ennon was preceded in death by his first wife, Wanda Arnett Enmon, two brothers, Whimpy Enmon and Dick Enmon, two sisters, Verna Alexander and Edith Jones.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Texas Masonic Retirement Center, 1501 West Division, Arlington, Texas, 76012 or the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 815 Market St., Galveston, Texas 77550.

Visitation will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm,. Monday, December 4, 2006 at Watson and Sons Funeral Home in Center.

Wardella Smith, age 77 of Bossier City, La. passed away Saturday, December 02, 2006 at Colonial Oaks Nursing Home in Bossier City, La.

Services will be 1 pm Monday, December 4, 2006 at Mangum Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow at Strong Cemetery in Huxley.

Visitation will begin at 2 pm on Sunday until 8 pm at Mangum Funeral Home and again at 8 am on Monday until service time.

She was born August 5, 1929 in Huxley. She was of the Baptist faith. She is preceded in death by her parents, Waymon and Bertie(Hendricks) Holt.

She is survived by: Husband, Earl Smith of Bossier City, La., Daughter, Susan Giddens and husband Milton of Plain Dealing, La., Son, David Smith and Faye of Bossier City, La., Daughter, Stayce Malone and husband, Keith of Rockwell.

Grandchildren: John D. Ewing and wife, Annie, Jennifer Reeme and husband, Trey, Brian Gidden and wife, Kori, Melissa Moore and husband, Chris, Erica Smith, Jacob, Joshua and Rebekah Malone.

Great Grandchid: Brennon Moore.

Brother in law: Joel R. Smith of Shreveport, La.
