J.L. "Jim" Battles
Funeral services for J.L. "Jim" Battles of Nacogdoches will be 2 pm Thursday, February 2, 2006 at Mangum Funeral Home Chapel in Center, Texas with Rev. Tracy Wright and Bro. Steve Noble to officiate. Burial will follow at White Rock Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5 pm until 8 pm at Mangum Funeral Home. Jim Battles went home to be with his Lord and Savior on January 31, 2006 surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 11, 1927 in San Augustine County to the late Marvin & Della Dillard Battles. He retired from Tipton Ford after 32 years in sales. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Center. Mr. Battles was a dedicated, hardworking, honest man who instilled those values in the many lives he touched. He was ddicated to his Lord and this was evident in his life to the very end. He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 sister, Inis Chandler. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Melba Hughes Battles of Nacogdoches. Doris Miller
Services for 88 Year old, Doris Miller, of Natchitoches, will be held this (Tuesday) morning at 10 o’clock, at the First United Methodist Church in Natchitoches, with burial to follow. Mrs. Miller is the wife of the late T. L. Miller, formerly of Center, and the sister of the late, T. G. Carroll, of Center.

Shirley D. Webb, 70, of Stonewall, Louisiana, passed away Sunday, January 29, 2006 in Mansfield, Louisiana. She was born December 29, 1935 in Joaquin, Texas. Mrs. Webb was employed as a waitress. She was a member of Landmark Baptist Church in Stonewall, Louisiana. Mrs. Webb had been a resident of Stonewall since 1998. Funeral services will be 2 pm Tuesday, January 31, 2006 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home with Bro. Gerald Head officiating. Interment to follow at the Allen Cemetery in Mansfield, Louisiana. Survivors Include: Husband: Jimmy Webb of Stonewall, Louisiana. Daughters: Sue Redwine and husband John of Bossier, Louisiana and Becky Brooks and husband Paul of Logansport, Louisiana. Son: Ricky Smith and wife Monica of Joaquin. Grandchildren: Blake Bedsole, Kit Kitchens, Mathew Smith and Keisi Smith. Iris Gregg, 54, of Center, passed away Sunday, January 29, 2006 in Center. She was born June 2, 1951 in Waco, Texas to Travis Cantrell and Dorthy Juanita Smith Cantrell. Mrs. Gregg was a homemaker, mother and grandmother. She was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church in Center. Graveside services will be at 2 pm on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center with Bro. Roland "Buddy" Gray and Bro. Keith Rose officiating. Jerry Lynn Thompson, 52, of Center, passed away Monday, January 23, 2006 in Nacogdoches. Jerry was born August 25, 1953 in Center, Texas to John Elvin and Lois Joplin Thompson. Mr. Covington served in the US Army and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tenaha. Funeral Services will be at 2 pm on Monday, January 23, 2006 at Watson & Sons Chapel with Rev. Benny Grant, Age 73, of Huxley, Tx. passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2006 at his residence in Huxley. Memorial Services will be held at 2 pm Saturday, January 21, 2006 at Toledo Bend Baptist Church in Huxley. He was born July 15, 1932 to the late Forrest Grant & Sarah Neill Grant. He served in the military for 5 years and worked in civil service for the Federal Government for 38 years. He is survived by : Wife, Rita Grant of Huxley. Numerous Nieces and Friends. Mary Creech Boozer, Age 96, formerly of Tyler, Passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2006 in Ft. Worth, Tx. She is a retired homemaker. Graveside services will be Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006 at 11 am at Shelbyville Cemetery. She is survived by Daughter: Mary Frizzell of Ft. Worth. Lila Mae Jimmerson Schwartz
Lila Mae Jimmerson Schwartz, 80, of Dayton died Tuesday, January 17, 2006 at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Thursday, January 19, 2006 at the Kenefick Southern Baptist Church in Kenefick and graveside services to be held at 2 pm Friday, January 20, 2006, at the Old Center Cemetery in Center.

Lila Mae was born January 31, 1925, in Joaquin to parents Dewey Ellen Ward Jimmerson and has resided in the Dayton area for the past 12 years. She was a homemaker, member of the Kenefick Southern Baptist Church, and enjoyed embroidery, quilting, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren. Mrs. Schwartz was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Bobby G. Schwartz, son: Timothy Hooper, father in law, Richard Oiler, sister Nina Lee Lindsey, and brother, Dewey I. Jimmerson, . Among Mrs. Schwartz’s survivors are her daughter, Martha E. Burch, and husband Charles of Dayton, four sons, Bobby D. Schwartz, and wife Betty of Pearland, Ernie D. Schwartz, and wife Cathy of Texas City, Duane Hooper, and wife Renne of Houston, and Gerald G. Hooper, and wife Linda of Deer Park. Forrest Hailey, 69, of Magee, Mississippi, passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2006 in Center. He was born January 13, 1936 in Shelby County, Texas to James Hailey and I.O. Crawford Hailey. He served his country in the United States Military while enlisted in the Air Force. He was a Baptist by faith and member of Goshen Baptist Church. He worked many years and retired as a supervisor from Magna Tech Manufacturing Co. in Magee. Mr. Hailey also served as Sports Editor for the Magee Courier for many years, in following his love for sports he had served as umpire for MS Baseball for 50 years.
