Mangum Funeral Home announces services for 86 year old, Velma Lee, of Center. Services will be tomorrow (Friday) morning at 11 o’clock, at Mangum’s Chapel. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be this (Thursday) evening from five until eight o’clock. Among Ms. Lee’s Survivors are one son, Lawrence Edward Gandy, of Arizona, and two daughters, Barbara Tabaka, and Sandi Sample, both of Center.

Garrison Funeral Home announces services for 71 year old, Alton L. Lee, of Garrison. Services will be tomorrow (Friday) afternoon at two o’clock, at Garrison Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Bethel Cemetery, in the Appleby Community. Visitation will be this (Thursday) evening from six until eight o’clock. Among Mr. Lee’s survivors are his wife, Loretta Lee, of Garrison, one son, Kenneth Lee, of Garrison, one daughter, Kathy Kortz, of Seguin, and three sisters, Mildred Watson, of Nacogdoches, and Johnnie Ruth Jopling, and LaMerle Bashinski, both of Garrison.

Mildred Wigley Dean Langford
Funeral services for Mildred Wigley Dean Langford, 92. of Lufkin will be held Monday, March 6, 2006 at 1 pm in the First Assembly of God Family Church with Reverend Elbert Smart and Reverend Charles Wigley officiating. Graveside services will be held at 4 pm in the Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center. Mrs. Langford was born October 18, 1913 in Louisiana, to the late Winifred (Robinette) and Ed Carney , and died Thursday, March 2, 2006 in a local hospital. Mrs. Langford had resided in Lufkin since 2002. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Family Church. Survivors include her sons and daughter in law. Rev. Charles and Faye Wigley and Michael and Ginger Wigley, all of Conroe, daughter and son in law, Ann and Pastor Bob Lewis of Lufkin, stepdaughter, Joyce Dean of Nacogdoches, stepdaughter and son in law Carolyn and Ellis "Buddy" Patterson of Nacogdoches, stepson and daughter in law, Robert Earl and Janie Dean of Nacogdoches, 16 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Jasper Wigley, L.D. Dean and Larry Langford, and daughter Verna Putman. Pallbearers will be Mrs. Langford's grandsons: Mark Lewis, Dennis Lewis, Charlie Wigley, Dr. Larry Putman, David Putman and Daron Wigley. The family extends special thanks to the wonderful nursing staff at Pinecrest Methodist Retirement Community, Dr. Kyle Krohn and the nursing staff of Woodland Heights Step Down. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Sunday evening at the funeral home.

Graveside services for 97 year old, Lela Parker, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, will be held Monday morning at 11 o’clock, at Oaklawn Memorial Park Cemetery, in Center. Among Ms. Parker’s survivors are a daughter, Marjorie Culver, of Oklahoma, a son, Billy Rae Parker, of Georgia, and a brother, Hoy McMahon, of Center.

Garrison Funeral Home announces services for 69 year old, Freddy V. Cook, of Garrison. Military graveside services will be Monday Morning at 10 o’clock, at Greenwood Cemetery, in Garrison. Mirther "Pat" Picolla Patrick
Mithe Picolla Patrick, know to many as Pat Patrick, passed away March 4, 2006 at her home in Savoy, Texas at the age of 81. Ms. Patrick was born July 13, 1924 in Hall Summit, Louisiana to parents Dewey and Susie Smith who preceded her in death. She married Thomas Alton Patrick on September 17, 1940 in Coushatta, Louisiana and moved to West Carroll Parish Louisiana soon afterward, living there for many years while farming and raising a family. She later moved to Kilgore, Texas before finally moving to Savoy, Texas in her job as a USDA inspector, where she resided for over 20 years. She loved gardening and being outdoors. She also spent many hours playing dominos and cards with her friends. Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Monday, March 6, 2006 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Carl Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center, Texas.

Survived by : Children, Tom Patrick and wife Sachiko, Joyce Kane and husband Jack, Jinx Preble, Barbara Kelly and husband Paul, Ron Patrick and wife Linda. Grandchildren, Chuck Kane, Lisa Patrick, Michelle Preble, Stephen Cole, Pam Rachal, Erin Patrick, Donnie Preble and Megan Patrick. Sister, Myrtis Holloway. Also a number of nieces, nephews, a host of extended family and long time friends who will all remember her with love. She is preceded by an infant son, Dewey Lynn Patrick. Visitation will be held from 5:30 pm to 7 pm Sunday, March 5, 2006 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center.


Dessie Jones
Graveside services for Bessie Jones, 92, of Center, formerly of Joinersville, will be held at 2 pm, Sunday March 5, 2006 at Mount Hope Cemetery with Rev. John Cheney officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery under the direction of Crawford Crim Bryan Funeral Home in Henderson.

Mrs. Jones died March 3, in Center. She was born on Feb. 5, 1914, in Point, Texas. She was a member of West Main Baptist Church in Henderson and was employed as a cook with Gaston Schools.

Family will recieve friends from 5-7 pm Saturday, March 4, 2006 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Jones and on granddaughter. Survivors include: Three sons and daughters in law, Jimmy and Pat Jones of Carrollton, George W. and Ruth Jones of Center and Billy Joe and Linda Jones of Longview. Five grandchildren and Seven great grandchildren.

JoAnn O'Rear Lanigan
JoAnn Lanigan, 74, of Shreveport, passed away Friday, March 3, 2006. She was born November 24, 1931 in Shelby County, Texas to Joe O'Rear and Hilda Wych O'Rear. Mrs. Lanigan was a 1949 graduate of Shelbyville High School and was Catholic faith.

Graveside services will be held at 2 pm Sunday, March 5, 2006 at Wimberly Cemetery in Huxley, Texas with Bro. Luke Garrett officiating

Samuel R. (Sammy) Daw
Sammy Daw, age, 68 of Willis, Texas, passed away Saturday, March 4, 2006. He was born November 30, 1937 in Vivian La. to M. D. (Sarks) Daw and Pardita Miller Daw. Mr. Daw was a 1956 graduate of Joaquin High School and a 1961 graduate of Texas A&M. Funeral services will be held at 11 am Wednesday, March 8, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Joaquin, Texas with Rev. John Davis and Rev. Charles Freeman officiating. Interment will be in the Joaquin Cemetery. William "Bill" Smith
William "Bill" Smith, 71, died Saturday, March 4, 2006 at his home in Livingston, Tx. He was born September 23, 1934 in Houston, Tx. Bill was Police Chief in Livingston from 1976 to 1983. He also worked as Chief Deputy in Walker County and for the Houston Metro Police. He retired from the Navy having attained the rank of SMC. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 7, 2006 at 10 am at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Herb Graf officiating. Burial will be held in Strong Cemetery in Center, Texas at 3 pm. He is survived by Wife Sally Joneil Smith of Livingston, Son, Tim Smith & wife Debbie of Livingston, Daughter, Mary Beth Terry of San Saba, 6 Grandchildren, Brother, Jerry Smith & wife Angle of Austin, Brother, Jack Smith of Montgomery. He was preceded in death by his father Carl Smith and his mother Syble Harrison Smith.

Ruth Haley Bridwell
Ruth Haley Bridwell, age 88, of Center, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2006. She was born May 21, 1917 in Mineola to Benjamin Denton Haley and Daisy Mae Haley. Mrs Bridwell was a member of the First Baptist Church in Center. She taught the third and fourth grade Sunday school class at First Baptist for over 38 years. Mrs. Bridwell was a homemaker, mother and grandmother. She had been a resident of Shelby County for most of her life. Funeral services will be held at 11 am Monday, March 13, 2006 at Waston & Sons Chapel with Rev. Carl Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center. In lieu of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to the Lottie Moon Mission Fund at the First Baptist Church in Center. Lutishia B. Hatton, 79, of Center, passed away March 12, 2006 in Nacogdoches. Ms. Hatton was born August 4, 1926 in the Patroon Community of Shelby County to Ebb W. and Mary Dwire Campbell. She was a member of Hurst Street Church of Christ. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm on Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home, with Kyle Campbell & Jeremy Ferguson officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Shelby County, Texas. Pallbearers will be Dan Eddins, Mark Price, Ted Eddins, Cliff Sedtal, Mike Eddins & Brett Hatton. J.C. Spruiell
J.C. “Jake” Spruiell, of Shelbyville, devoted husband, father, and grandfather peacefully departed this life on Sunday, March 12, 2006 in Tyler at the age of 68. J.C. was born March 9, 1938 in Tahoka to Fred and Noveta Pauline Spruiell. He moved to Shelbyville from Marble Falls, Texas in 1996. J.C. attended South Plains College in Levelland. He married Carol Ann McCrary on March 3, 1967 in Brownwood. J.C. was employed as a supervisor by Amoco Production for 45 years and retired in 1998. He served in the U.S. Air Force, was a Worshipful Master for Shelbyville Masonic Lodge, and was a member of Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church. He was a devoted husband and enjoyed his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Pauline Spruiell and a sister, Linda Hoyt. Those left to mourn his passing include his wife, Carol; one daughter, Jan and husband Ted Currington of Levelland; two sons: Jesse and wife Shelli Spruiell of Marble Falls, and Tim Spruiell of Nacogdoches; six grandchildren: Christi and husband Matt Reed, Chad and wife Ann Currington, and Justin, Corky, Randy, and Landon Spruiell; three great grandchildren: Layton and Kyler Reed, and Brylee Currington; Five brothers; Bill Spruiell of Joaquin, Howard Spruiell of Center, Bobby Spruiell of Austin, Freddy Spruiell and Ronnie Spruiell of Levelland; four sisters; Juanita Leonard of Denison, Trudy McArthur of Spur, Jan Blankenship of Granite Shoals, and Shelly Kelsay of Ariel Wash.; and several nieces and nephews. James Walter Verner - James Walter Verner, 95, passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2006 in Bryan. He was born March 8, 1911, 1.5 miles South East of Peacock, Texas in Stonewall County. He was the tenth child out of twelve born to John Wesley Verner and Myrtie Beatrice Moore Verner.
He was married to Velma Vallie Davis on April 29, 1939 in Commerce by Clyde McCurdy. From that union came three sons and four daughters. He was a retired Congregational Methodist Church pastor. Rev. Verner was a bi-vocational pastor and was active in much of North and East Texas. For five years he pastored in West Texas. His other profession was carpentry and he was proud to receive the 65 year carpenter’s pin.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, March 31, 2006 at New Hope Congregational Methodist Church with Rev. Raymond Robbins & Rev. Ned Chipley officiating.
