Willie James Krauskopf, 71, of Center, passed away Monday, December 31, 2007 at his home. He was born September 5, 1936 in Bloomington to Frank Krauskopf and Annie Galeia Krauskopf. Mr. Krauskopf was a member of Folsom Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Tuesday, January 1, 2008 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at Watson & Sons Chapel with Bro. Henry Hughes, Bro. Clifton Hughes and Bro. Sam Wheeler officiating. Interment will follow at Folsom Chapel Cemetery in Center.

Audie Sims May, 94, of Joaquin, passed away Friday, December 28, 2007 in a local nursing Center. Ms. May was born on November 21, 1913 in Joaquin , Texas to Frank Sims and Beatrice Sims. She was a homemaker and the greatest mother anyone could have asked for. She was a member of the Old Center Baptist Church .

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, December 30, 2007 at Watson and Sons Chapel in Center, Texas with Bro. Jody Hooper officiating. Interment will follow in the Joaquin Cemetery in Joaquin , Texas . Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Saturday, December 29, 2007 at Watson and Sons Funeral Home in Center, Texas.

Funeral services for H. Clay Harris, 61, of Hudson will be held Sunday, December 30, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. in the Keltys First Baptist Church with Sonny Holland, Brother Elton Musick, Brother Thurmon Whitaker and Brother Jerry Newton officiating. Interment will follow in the Bennett Cemetery in Trinity County.

Clay was born June 15, 1946 in Gilmer, Texas, to the late Daurice (Adams) and Henry Clay Harris, III, was born again June 15, 1972, and died Thursday, December 27, 2007 in Zapata County, Texas.

Clay had resided in Hudson for the past 37 years. He was a school teacher for 24 years and retired from Centerville ISD in Trinity County. Clay was also employed as a principal at Lufkin schools and as senior vice-president for A. L. Williams. He had pastored Mt. Carmel Baptist Church for the past 16 years.

Clay had a love of nature, the outdoors, old western movies and memorabilia. Roy Rogers was his hero and his horse, Chief, was a special friend. Most of all he loved and spent most of his time with his wife, Rosslyn.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Rosslyn (McBride) Harris of Hudson, son and daughter-in-law, Clay and Stephanie Harris of Hudson; daughter and son-in-law, Kristi and Scotty Wilkins of Onalaska; grandchildren, Brittany, Hunter, Cade and Adyson Harris, Savanah and Ben Wilkins; sisters and brothers-in-law, Elizabeth and Verbon Pate of Center and Bennie and Paul Rhoden of Lufkin; numerous nieces, nephews, family members, and a host of friends.

Pallbearers will be Dan Lamont, Jerry Lee, Jon Estes, Quinton Berwick, Steve Harris, Ronnie Vess and Neal Askew.

Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, living memorials may be made to The Gideons International, Lufkin West Camp, P.O. Box 1831, Lufkin, Texas 75902-1831, or the Bennett Cemetery Association, 227 Max Due Road, Groveton, Texas 75845.

Clara Heintschel, 91, of Shelbyville, passed away Friday December 28, 2007 at Twin Lakes Nursing Home in San Augustine.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday December 30, 2007 at Mangum Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor, Carla Reed officiating. Graveside Service will be 10:00 a.m. Monday December 31, 2007 at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves, TX. Visitation will be Saturday December 29, 2007 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Mangum Funeral Home.

She was born March 11, 1916 to H.G. and Argie (West) Powell in Port Arthur, TX. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Shelbyville for 31 years and a member of United Methodist Women for 59 years.

She is preceded in death by her Parents, H.G. and Argie Powell and Husband, Clarence M. Heintschel.

Gladys Bagwell Horton, 97, of Tenaha passed away Wednesday, December 26, 2007 at a Nacogdoches hospital. She was born November 10, 1910 in Shelby County, Texas to George Newton Bagwell, Sr. and Eliza Templin Bagwell. Ms. Horton was very active in her church, Ramah Baptist Chruch in Tenaha, where she was a member and Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of Delta Gamma Teacher’s Association and served as officer in the WMA.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Friday, December 28, 2007 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, December 29, 2007 at Ramah Baptist Church with Bro. Keith Keele and Bro. James Hall officiating. Interment will follow at Ramah Cemetery.

Patricia Glenn Eisenrich, 70, of De Leon, Texas, passed away December 21, 2007 at John Peter Smith Hospital, Ft. Worth, Texas. She was born December 1, 1937 in Angelina County, Texas to the late Rober and Tresa Hamilton Glenn.

Services will be Thursday, December 27, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, De Leon, Texas with Rev. Lisa Neslony officiating. Graveside Service will be at Oaklawn Memorial Park, Center, Texas., Friday December 28 at 11 a.m.

She was an RN, having retired from her job as Director of Clinical Service at Cross Timber Health Clinic in De Leon, Texas. She had lived in De Leon about 45 years, after moving from the Austin area. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in De Leon, Texas.

Nevada Marie Eaves, 79, of Jacinto City, passed away Friday, December 21, 2007 at a Houston hospital. She was born April 4, 1928 in Joaquin, Texas to Vessie Willis and Luonia Lacey Willis. Ms. Eaves was a member of Pine Ridge Missionary Baptist Church in Joaquin.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Sunday, December 23, 2007 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. Gerald D. Newman, 82, of Shelbyville, passed away Friday December 21, 2007 at Shelby Regional Medical Center.

Services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday December 24, 2007 at Mangum Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ronnie Wheeler and Bro. Jim Moss officiating. Military Graveside will follow at McClelland Cemetery under the direction of VFW Post #8904. Visitation will be Sunday December 23, 2007 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Mangum Funeral Home.

He was born February 24, 1925 to John Franklin and Laura (Dewberry) Newman in Senith, Missouri. He married Gladys Chandler Newman on May 30,1943. He served in the US Army Air Force during World War II at Camp Walters, Mineral Wells as a S/Sgt. from 1943 until 1945 where he received the Eamet Theater Ribbon with 5 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was a carpenter by trade. He also enjoyed gardening and fishing. He was a member of Ephesus Baptist Church in Shelbyville.

He is preceded in death by his Parents, John Franklin and Laura (Dewberry) Newman, Brother, Leamon Newman, Sister, Jewel Slayton and Granddaughter, Deidre Yoest.

He is survived by:

James S. Owens, 89, of Huxley passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2007. He was born January 31, 1918 in Panola County to William Owens and Minnie Dagnell Owens. Mr. Owens served in the US Army, was on the Huxley City Counsel and the Strong Cemetery Board of Directors. He was of the Pentecostal faith.

Janet Barton departed this world to be with the Lord on December 18, 2007 after a year and half battle with cancer. Janet was a loving mother and wife who fought a courageous battle till the end. Even though Janet had moved to Flint, Texas her heart was still in Tenaha were she was born and raised. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tenaha where she was a Sunday School Teacher and a member of the Choir. She was always active in all activities that her children were involved in.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Wednesday, December 19, 2007 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. Doyce George, 87, of Center, passed away Thursday, December 13, 2007 at San Augustine Memorial Hospital. He was born January 25, 1920 in Hunt County, Texas to John George and Callie Kennedy George. Mr. George was a retired postal employee. He served in the Army Air Corp from 1941 to 1945 and was a member of First Baptist Church in Center.

She was born August 10, 1933 to William Robert and Mae Billingsley Swanzy. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Center and she also attended school in Center.

She is preceded in death by her parents, W.R. "Bob" & Mae Swanzy and Brother, Robert Swanzy.

Freddy W. Henry, 71, of Center, passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at a Center nursing home. He was born December 8, 1936 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Howard F. Henry and Wera Christian Henry. He had been a resident of Center since 1945, was a member of Woodmen of the World and was a member and elder of the First Christian Church in Center. Mr. Henry enjoyed his model trains.

Winston S. Smith, (Lt Col USAF Retired) 88, died Sunday, December 9, 2007. Visitation will be at Watson & Sons Funeral Home from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Tuesday, December 11, 2007. Winston was a native of Shelby County, born October 10, 1919 to Nina Stillwell Smith and Samford Smith on the family farm located in the Newbern community. He graduated from Center High school in the class of 1936, and attended Texas A & M during the 1937/1938 term. Since Winston was attracted to military life, he enlisted in November 1939, and his military career lasted thirty years. After a short stint in the Infantry, he transferred to the Army Air Corps and was stationed at Barksdale Army Air Field. During mid 1941 he was selected to attend an aircraft maintenance school at New Orleans, Louisiana. While there he met his sweetheart who became his wife, lover and partner for 66 years. He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps on November 10, 1944. Winston served a tour of duty in Japan during 1945/1946. His next overseas assignment was to Germany during the Berlin Airlift. During 1956 while stationed at Kelly Air Force base at San Antonio, Winston was selected to attend the University of Texas, and received a BBA degree majoring in Industrial Management. Assignments included Chief of the Atlanta Air Procurement District, Atlanta, George, Department of Defense procurement instructor, Fort Lee, Virginia, and Base Procurement Officer Elmendorf AFB, Alaska.

Following retirement Col Smith returned to Shelby County and was selected to be the first probation officer in Shelby County. In this assignment he recognized the need for a rehabilitation facility, and was responsible for organizing and managing a halfway house for alcoholics. He was an ardent participant in Southern Gospel music and sang with several local quartets. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, as he joined in his early teens. While in the military he participated in Base Chapel activities and upon his return to Shelby County renewed his participation with the First United Methodist Church.

Winston was loyal to his family, his country and his friends. His joy for living was an inspiration.

Arlan Hays was born on July 14, 1914, to Webster F. Hays and Alice Elizabeth (Hall) Hays. He entered into rest on December 6, 2007, in Lufkin, Texas. He attained the age of 93 years, 4 months and 22 days. He began working at the Tribune at age 12. He graduated from SAHS in 1932 and in 1933 he was named as Publisher, a title that he kept until 1997 when he shared the title with his son, Stephen, as Co-Publishers. He remained active in the business until his death.

Some of his many accomplishments in life include First Baptist Church – Member since May 1, 1957, and usher for many years. Chamber of Commerce – One of original directors in 1953; in 1984 received Newspaper Man of the Year, 1993 was Business Man of the Year, 1996 received President Award. 2001 received Lifetime Achievement Award; Honorary Director for about 10 years. Lions – Was an organizing member of San Augustine Lions Club in 1937; served as Secretary-Treasurer of club for 15 plus years, remained member for 70 years. Member of the Sons of the Republic of Texas, Honorary Deputy Sheriff, named as Honorary Admiral in Texas Navy, recognized for his outstanding commitment for his “Service To Others” by Commissioners and County Judge Curt Goetz, in 1997. Arlan’s birthday, July 14th, was proclaimed as “Arlan Hays Day” in San Augustine County, received Community Builder Award from the Grand Lodge of Texas and Redland Lodge #3, SAISD Outstanding Booster Club Service, Lincoln Alumni Award 1995, Distinguished Service Award from American Cancer Society, support of the SA Police Department, honored for supporting the Broaddus ISD, FHA Honored Citizens Outstanding Support, honored by the Texas Nursing Home Association, recognized for his support of the SA Boys and Girls Club, Voice of Democracy Award from VFW Post 9313, Friend of 4-H award in 1970 and 1985-86, Award of Appreciation from the Sons of Republic of Texas, Friend of Public Library Award, and Certificates of Appreciation Awards from the following, DRT, Department of Aging, Girl Scouts, FFA and Texas Dept. of Human Resources. There were many other local awards and recognition.

He is survived by his son, Stephen Hays and wife Kelly of San Augustine; grand-daughter Leslie Hinton and husband Jason of Longview; Great-granddaughter, Harley Lynn Hinton of Longview.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Inga Douglass Hays in 1982, brother, Gordon Carter Hays; sisters, Bessie Beryl Hays, Mary Lucene Hays Boyette and Eva Maxine Hays Sanders.

Services will be held Sunday, December 9, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church, San Augustine, Texas with Rev. Josh Ponder and David Burcham officiating. Interment to follow at Liberty Hill Cemetery, San Augustine County, Texas.

Coye Dayton Bush, 75, of Center, passed away Thursday, December 6, 2007 at a Center nursing home. He was born July 15, 1932 to Elton Dee and Cordell Williamson Bush. He was a member of Center United Pentecostal Church and was a self-employed equipment dealer.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm, Friday, December 7, 2007 at Watson & Sons Chapel in Center with Rev. Edward McRae officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Herman Cemetery in Center. Ollie Bogue, funeral services for Mrs. Ollie Stilley Bogue, age 97, of Duncanville, Texas, formerly of Timpson will be held at 10 AM Monday, December 3, 2007 in the First Baptist Church, Timpson, with Rev. Josh Walters officiating. Mrs. Bogue passed away November 30, in Duncanville. She was born in Timpson, Tx. on June 30, 1910 to parents, James Francis and Effie Lavada (Smiley) Stilley.

Ollie Bogue graduated from Timpson High School on May 18, 1927 and was married that day to Joseph Alexander Bogue. She spent her life caring for her family and enjoyed helping her friends and neighbors. Her family and friends were blessed with her cooking, sewing, and gardening skills. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Timpson.

Her survivors include son James Bogue and wife Barbara of Timpson, daughter Bette Bunger and husband Reid of Duncanville; daughter Brenda Beasley and husband Felton of Brenham, Texas, 6 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Bogue was preceded in death by her parents, husband Joseph A. Bogue, grandson Kevin Beasley, 3 brothers and 1 sister.

James Manshack, 65 of Center, passed away Saturday, December 1, 2007 at his residence in Center. Mr. Manshack was born February 23, 1942 in Center to Melvin Manshack and Modena Parker Manshack. He worked for Hallmark Fixture Operations, where he retired with 37 years of service. Mr. Manshack served in the U.S. Army.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, December 3, 2007 at Watson and Sons Chapel in Center with Rev. Ozay Ford and Rev. Charles Boster officiating. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center.
