Tincy Griffith, 71 of Center, passed away Friday, January 28, 2011 at Memorial Hospital Nacogdoches. He was born April 23, 1939 in shelby County, Texas to Dalton Griffith and Nela Hurst Griffith. Tincy Griffith was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and worked at Griffith Furniture and was retired from Center Police Department and Tyson Foods.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 9:00pm, Saturday, January 29, 2011 at Watson and Sons Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm, Sunday, January 30, 2011 at Watson and Sons Funeral Home with Bro. Gordon Vaughn officiating. Funeral services for Mr. George Dewey Faussett, Jr., age 66, of Carthage, TX, will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Thad Mills and Rev. Billy Hughes officiating. Interment will follow in Bethel Cemetery in Logansport, LA. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Faussett passed away on Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 26, 2011, in Tyler.

George Dewey Faussett, Jr. was born on Nov. 6, 1944, in Center, TX to George Dewey and Hortense Alamay Faussett. Mr. Faussett attended Joaquin High School. He worked as a truck driver and mechanic. He enjoyed carpentry, westerns, civil war history, fishing, and plumbing. George was a jack of all trades and a master of all. He married Janet Hunter on Dec. 2, 2002, in Carthage. Mr. Faussett moved to Carthage in 1995, from Texarkana. He attended Mt. Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Gary. Mr. Faussett was preceded in death by his parent.

Mr. Faussett is survived by his wife, Janet Hughes Faussett of Carthage; two sons, Michael Ray Hughes and wife Cathy of Kemp and Otis Hughes and fiancé Monica of Carthage; three daughters, Tonya Renee Polanco and husband Jimmie of Groves, Pamela Freshour and husband Skip of Temp, AZ, and Tersia Davis of Lufkin; two brothers, David Faussett and wife Janice Kay of Tenaha and James Ray Faussett and wife Pam of Timpson; one sister, Doris Hooper of Henderson; and five grandchildren. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends also survive Mr. Faussett.

Serving as pallbearers are Ronnie Mosman, Michael Mosman, John Ballard, James Knight, Charles Lennon, and Charles Rhodes. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Kristopher and Taylor Hunter and Bill DeVaul.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lillian McGee Whiddon, 85 of Carthage, Texas will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 30, 2011 at the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. John Ulrich officiating. Burial will follow in the Scholar Cemetery in Joaquin, Texas under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Family visitation will be Saturday evening from 6–8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Whiddon passed away January 27, 2011 in Carthage.

Mrs. Lillian Flora McGee Whiddon was born January 9, 1926 in Polk County, Texas to the marriage of Nathan Sylvester “Tom” and Alta Magnolia Chance McGee. Lillian was raised in the Baptist faith in Shelby County and attended rural Shelby County schools. She met and married James Olan Whiddon on June 21, 1946 and together celebrated 49 years together until he preceded her in death in 1995. An army wife, Mrs. Whiddon was a homemaker and later owned and operated Lillian’s Beauty Shop in Coahona, Texas until they retired back to Shelby County.

She enjoyed reading, quilting and cooking and was very devoted to her family. Mrs. Whiddon is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Bennie Nathan McGee and an infant son.

Mrs. Whiddon is survived by her sons, Tommy Harold Whiddon and wife Beverly of Austin, James Olan Whiddon, Jr., and wife Lesia of Clayton, New Mexico; daughter, Vicki Alexander of Carthage; niece that she raised, Patsy Rose McCune Cross and husband Phillip of Big Springs; brothers, Leonard Hamilton McGee and wife Inez of Conroe, Clinton Dean McGee and wife Louise of Conroe; Grandchildren, Michael Alexander of Carthage, Tracey Wall and husband Joseph of Kilgore, Randall Scott Whiddon of Waco, Jacob Kyle Whiddon of New Mexico; great grandchild, Emily Madison; special Caregiver, Amy Juarez of Murvaul; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Graveside service for Benjamin “Benjy” Bearden, 61, of Huntsville, TX, formerly of Timpson, will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, January 27, 2011, in Blair Cemetery, Timpson, with Rev. Elmer Mathews officiating. Mr. Bearden passed away January 25, 2011, in Houston, TX.

Born February 27, 1949, in Henderson, TX, Benjy Bearden was the son of the late Benjamin Hardy Bearden and Winnie (Fonville) Bearden. He was a graduate of Timpson High School and Stephen F. Austin State University. After teaching in several schools, Benjy became a prison guard for Texas Department of Corrections. He was also a member of Good Hope Baptist Church, Timpson.

Survivors include his brother Hardy Bearden of Timpson, brother-in-law Charles Fletcher of Nacogdoches, and 2 nieces. In addition to his parents, Benjy was preceded in death by his sister Martha Fletcher.

Larry Dale Starkey, age 52, of Frankston, TX, formerly of Gary, TX, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011, in Palestine. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, at Corinth Cemetery with Pastor Leonard Milford officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. Larry Dale Starkey was born on Aug. 10, 1958, in Shepherd, TX to John Ermon and Wanda Mae Nutt Starkey. Mr. Starkey graduated from Shepherd High School with the class of 1976, and later earned his real estate license. He worked in the oil field as a welder. Mr. Starkey married, Linda Jean Martin on Nov. 12, 2002, at Corinth Missionary Baptist Church.

Mr. Starkey is survived by his mother and father, Wanda and John E. Starkey of Gary; his wife, Linda Starkey of Frankston; three step-children, Tammy Bearden and husband Frank of Henderson, Trisha Evans and husband T.J. of Liberty City, and Marie Pendleton and husband Jeff of Carlisle; three sisters, Linda Choate and husband John of Gary, Retha Starkey of Center, and Betty Riggs and husband Wayne of Gary; nine step-grandchildren, Blade and Nikke Gillispie, Tori, Kaytlynn and Breanna Evan, Baylee, Brenden, and Christopher Brown, and Cullen Pendleton. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends also survive Mr. Starkey.

Mr. John Keith Bryan, 44, of San Augustine County, passed from this life late Sunday evening, January 23, 2011, in Nacogdoches after an extended illness. He was born in San Augustine to Kellie and Roxie (Wyatt) Bryan, on December 12, 1966.

John attended San Augustine schools until he had to stay home because of illness. He had worked part-time for Butler Perry Service Station and for Mixon's Convience Store. Again he was forced to stay home because of illness, but he continued working whenever he could. He was a member of Grapevine Missionary Baptist Church. He loved playing the guitar and listening to music.

He is survived by his mother Roxie Bryan of San Augustine; brother Gaylon Bryan and wife Janice of San Augustine; sister Shirley Russell and husband Chris of Foley Alabama; nephews Matt Russell and Jason Bryan; nieces Kim Talton, Jana Bryan and Brandi Nichols; great-nieces Roxie Jane Wallace, Abigail Russell, Isabella Rose Russell, and Charlie Grey Talton; great-nephews Will Russell, Jett Tomlinson, Camden Nichols and Hayden Nichols; Uncles Robert Wyatt and wife Lorene of Lufkin and Burnice Ray Bryan and wife Margie; aunts Ruthie Smith of Silsbee and Annie Mae Gilcrease of Old Salem.

Troy Louise Galbreath Webb of Timpson, Texas,, passed away on Sunday, January 23, 2011 at Garrison Nursing Home. Mary Ann Franks Arnold, 79 of Carthage, Texas pass Tuesday, January 18, 2011 in Carthage, Texas. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 22, 2011 at Hawthorn Funeral Home with Rev. Mrs. Mary Ann Bailey Franks Arnold was born November 19, 1931 in the Buncomb Community of Panola County, Texas. She was the second of four children born to the marriage of William Fred and Annie May Snelson Bailey. Mary Ann graduated from Carthage High School with the class of 1948, attended Panola Junior College and Stephen F. Austin State University where she graduated with a B.A. and a Masters in Education. Her teaching career began when she was 20 in the Beaumont area moving to Clayton in 1952. Mrs. Franks taught art at Carthage High School and Carthage Jr. High. She ended her career after teaching at Gary Elementary School, retiring in 1990. Mrs. Arnold loved following the success of her students, watching them grow into fine young men and women. She was a longtime member of the Bethel Baptist Church. Mary Ann enjoyed the simple things, family and friends, her church family and her student family she always kept in touch with. She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, James E. Franks in 1970 and Rade G. Arnold in 2005, and a brother Wendell Bailey.

She is survived by her son, James Lamar Franks and wife Portia of Carthage, Daughters Mona Ann Dane and husband Matt of Greeley, CO, Candance Marie Carson and husband Jesse of Good Springs, brothers, Fred Bailey, Jr., Charles Bailey and grandchildren, James Arron Franks, Sarah Elizabeth Franks and Matthew Dane, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Mrs. Rosa Lee Hancock Edge was born April 18, 1918 in Old Center Community of Panola County, Texas to the marriage of Robert Earl “Bob” and Stella Johnson Hancock.

Rosa Lee graduated from Carthage High School with the class of 1935, later attending Stephen F. Austin State University. After obtaining her Bachelors, Mrs. Edge achieved her Masters of Education in 1956. While working towards her Masters, Rosa Lee taught grades one through five at Rural Flat Woods School, a one teacher school in Panola County. She married Eldon Rual Edge in December of 1939 and celebrated 58 years together until he preceded her in death in 1998. She continued to teach at different schools such as sixth grade at Leverett’s Chapel, fourth grade at Carthage, and eventually became principal of Libby Primary School from 1974-1979. Mrs. Edge was the Area Vice President of Texas Association for the Improvement of Reading, President of Carthage Classroom Teachers, President of the East Texas Area Council of Social Studies and the Vice-President of Texas Gamma Beta Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa, International Honorary Sorority for Woman Educators. Among the many accomplishments, Rosa Lee also made time to teach the Adult Women’s Alathean Sunday School Class at Central Baptist church where she was a long time member. Mrs. Edge is preceded in death by her parents, husband and siblings, Emory Hancock and Bobbie Jean McDaniel.

Marilyn Covington-Williams, 59, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother lost her long and courageous battle with GIST cancer and went to be with our Lord on January 16, 2011 surrounded by her family. Born on September 27, 1951 in Houston, Tx to Eulon Clay Sample and Bessie Ann Davis, raised in San Antonio and a lifelong member of Southeast Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Shirley Jo and her first husband of 34 years, Gerald Mac Covington.

She is survived by her brother, Tommy Clay Sample; second husband of 2 ½ years, Billy Williams; her children, Julie Ann Covington, Glenn Michael Covington and wife Amanda, Jeffrey Scott Covington, Rebecca Marie Shell and husband Fred, Heath James Williams and wife Mary Beth; grandchildren, Ashley Nicole, Samantha Leigh, Jonathon Lloyd, Kevin, Marissa, T.J., Heath and Eva; great-grandchildren, Paul Lawrence, Raelynn, Rylee and Bianca; niece, Tamlyn Sample Overmier; nephews, Jack Lane Sample and Cody Ray Sample; and numerous other relatives and family friends who loved her very much.

Jewel D. “J.D.” Jones, Jr., 73, of Texas City, passed away Monday, January 17, 2011, in Texas City.

Mr. Jones was born February 22, 1937 in Center, Texas to parents, Jewel Daniel Jones, Sr. and Ruby Warren Jones. He was a retired pipefitter. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Arcadia, Texas and a member of the Oddfellows in Texas City. He enjoyed spending time at his farm with his cows and tractors and hunting and fishing. He had a vegetable garden in Texas City.

His pride of life was his children and grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife Geneva Ann Jones.

Survivors include his daughter Deborah Ann Castle and spouse Kevin; son Jewel Daniel Jones III and spouse Melissa; grandchildren: Dylan Colt Castle, Adison Jewel Jones and Carson Daniel Jones; a sister Noreen Parker; numerous other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Ethel Ann Stewart, age 88, a resident of Center, Texas formerly of Little River County, Arkansas died Saturday, January 15, 2011 in Center.

She was born on September 3, 1922 in Arkinda, Arkansas. She was a retired nurse and a member of the First Baptist Church in Center, Texas.

Mrs. Stewart was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Stewart; one son, Charles R. Price; her parents, Robert S. and LaVada Smith Horn; two brothers, A.C. and Jimmy Horn and her sister Gladys Dawson.

She is survived by one son, John L. and Karren Price of Center; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Graveside services for Mrs. Stewart will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 18, 2011 in the Gravelly Cemetery with Audie Dawson officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

C.W. “Jack” Watson, 84, of Tenaha, passed away Friday, January 14, 2011 at a Tyler hospital. He was born May 5, 1926 in Tenaha to Jasper Watson and Lizzie Mae Wagstaff Watson.

Jack graduated from Tenaha High School in 1945, where he was voted most athletic, and was a member of the Tenaha School Hall of Fame. He served in the US Army during WWII. Jack worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 35 years, before retiring. He was a past member of the Tenaha School Board, the past president of the Telephone Pioneers, and a member of First Baptist Church in Tenaha.

Leon “L.L.” Duncan, 92, of Huxley, passed away Friday, January 14, 2011 at Shelby Regional Medical Center. He was born August 9, 1918 in Shelby County to Charlie Duncan and Cathryn Sanford Duncan.

At the age of 16, L.L. joined the Civil Conservation Camp as a Forestry Surveyor. He was then a ship captain for the Port of Houston, before being drafted to the U.S. Marine Corps. L.L. then worked for Tyler Pipe in Tyler, and after working 30 years for Ivan Smith Furniture, he retired. He was a member of Lydia Missionary Baptist Church and was an avid bass fisherman.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, Sunday, January 16, 2011 at Watson and Sons Funeral Home in Center. Mrs. LaVaughn DeZelle, 85, of San Augustine, passed from this life on Tuesday evening, January 11, 2011, in San Augustine.

LaVaughn was born December 23, 1925, to Dessie (Hook) Dean and Durward Belmont Dean in San Augustine County, Texas. She worked as a Telephone Operator for many years, had worked for the Holiday Inn in San Augustine as a Desk Clerk for 12 years. She was very involved with the girl scouts, the band boosters, and sports, and she was very actively involved with children activities. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the San Augustine Fire Department, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of the Foreign Wars. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in San Augustine. She was married to the love of her life, James (Jimmy) DeZelle on August 31, 1946, in Woodville, Texas.

Graveside Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 14, 2011, at the Liberty Hill Memorial Garden in San Augustine County.

Services for James Betterton, 23, and his wife, Laci Betterton, 25, of Rockwall, will be one p.m., Thursday, January 13, 2011 at the Forest Home Baptist Church, Kilgore, Texas with Reverends Brian Nutt and Veronica Greanead officiating. Burial will follow in the Danville Cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Betterton were killed in an automobile accident just outside of Greenville, Texas, Sunday, January 9, 2011.

James was born February 2, 1987 in Midland, Texas. He attended Kilgore Public Schools and was a member of the 2005 graduating class. James was a Godly man who had made the church a part of his life. He was always happy, a stranger to no one, enjoyed music and playing golf. James loved children and teaching. In 2009 he earned a baccalaureate degree in Music Education from Texas A&M Commerce. He was currently employed as an elementary music teacher at Freeman Elementary School in Garland, Texas. James was a loving and devoted son and husband.

Laci was born September 9, 1985 in Nacogdoches, Texas to J. W. and Judy Strickland. She attended Harmony public schools and was a member of the 2004 graduating class. Laci was also a Godly woman who was always happy. She loved animals and enjoyed traveling, cooking, hiking and camping. Laci was a loving and devoted daughter and wife that was full of life and truly enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She too earned her baccalaureate degree in Music Education in 2008 from Texas A&M Commerce. She was currently employed as an elementary music teacher at Pullen Elementary School in Rockwall, Texas. Her love of music was celebrated throughout her life, from her singing at 5 years old with her grandfather at church on Sunday nights, to her High School Choir and Band days, to her college friends and their favorite concerts; all of which led her to her sweet James. She was so loved.

The Bettertons were music ministers at Westview United Methodist Church in Greenville, Texas. James and Laci loved God, loved their families, friends and most of all, loved each other dearly.

James is survived by his parents, Danny and Susan Richter of Kilgore; grandparents, Don and Lorraine Hahne of Hemphill, Texas; aunts and uncles, David and Renate Cruce of Gilmer, Anthony and Tasha Richter of Midland, Texas; aunts, Sharl Douglas of Midland, Sharon Franklin of Kilgore. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Billy and Kay Richter, James T. Cruce.

Laci is survived by her parents, J.W. and Judy Strickland of Mineola, Texas; a brother, Jimmy Strickland of Granbury, Texas; a sister, Dianna Daniel of Henderson, Texas; nephews, James Michael Strickland of Granbury and Lance Daniel of Henderson; aunts and uncles, Donna and Hugh Fraser of Houston, Tommy and Sharon Vardeman of Holly Lake. Mrs. Johnson was born July 24, 1925 in Shelby County. She was the daughter of the later John and Florence Thompson. She was a member of East Liberty Baptist Church.

She is survived by two sons, Johnny Johnson and Willie Lewis and one daughter Mamie Johnson Lister.

She is preceded in death by her husband Willie Johnson, Jr; 2 sons Billy Gene and John Willie Johnson and 2 daughters Justine and Rebecca Sue Johnson.

Funeral services for Randy Fancher, 57, of Timpson, TX, will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, January 10, 2011, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Timpson, with Rev. Cliff Hughes officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery. Mr. Fancher passed away January 7, 2011, in Nacogdoches, TX.

Born March 25, 1953, in Nacogdoches, TX, he was the son of the late Billy Bertis and Shirley Ann (Vaught) Fancher. Randy was a 1971 graduate of Timpson High School and a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church.

He is survived by aunts, uncles, and cousins and was preceded in death by his parents Billy and Shirley Fancher.

Graveside service for Benny Ray Rhodes, 76, of Nacogdoches, TX, were held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, Jaunary 6, 2011, at Woodlawn Cemetery, Timpson, TX, with Rev. Josh Walters officiating. Mr. Rhodes passed away January 5, 2011, in Nacogdoches.

Born September 10, 1934, in Garrison, TX, Benny Ray Rhodes was the son of the late Shelby Joiner and Jessie (Barton) Rhodes. He was a graduate of Timpson High School and was owner/operator of a bail bondsman business in Nacogdoches for many years.

Survivors include his wife Yvonne Ceal Rhodes of Nacogdoches, son Danny Rhodes of Nacogdoches, and sister Christine Herring of California. In addition to his parents, Benny Ray Rhodes was preceded in death by his brother Billy Joe Rhodes.

Len B. Hughes, 67, passed away at his home in Dallas, TX on January 5, 2011. Len was born on Sept. 29, 1943, in Sabine Co., TX but grew up in Center, and was a 1962 graduate of Center High School.

He received a BS from Stephen F. Austin State University and his M.D. from U.T. Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas. He joined the U.S.A.F. after medical school and spent 3 years as a flight surgeon. After military service he did a residency in anesthesiology at University of Washington in Seattle, WA. He then returned to Dallas, where he practiced until retirement. Len was an avid camper, skier, and mountain climber.

Dr. Hughes was preceded in death by wife Ellen Kinzie Hughes, who died this past October and parents, Robert Irvin and Addie McDaniel Hughes of Center

He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Ryan Hughes and Sarah Clopton, daughter, Karen Hughes, all of Dallas, brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Robert I. Hughes and wife, Barbara of Center, and brother and sister-in-law Dr. Mack C. Hughes and wife, Kathie of Amarillo, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held for Len on Sat., Jan. 15th at 11:00 am in the sanctuary of Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church.

The family requests that any memorial gifts be made to the charity of your choice or to Faith Presbyterian Hospice in Irving, TX.


Dorothy Erline Crump Thompson, went to heaven on December 16, 2010 at the age of 90 years. “Dot” peacefully died surrounded by her three daughters, and her loving caretaker, Linda Reed Harris.

Born and raised in East Texas, Dorothy was especially proud of her parents, Zannie and Clara “Dee” Crump and their contribution to the education of many students in Timpson and Bridge City. Her only sibling, Edna Crump Kazar, whom Dot affectionately called ‘Sista Bo,’ was also waiting to greet her in heaven. Dot graduated from Stephen F. Austin Teachers College (now Stephen F. Austin State University), married (Dr. James D. Thompson) and raised her four children in Port Arthur, Texas. She enjoyed every moment of their activities, from girl scouts, dance recitals, TJ football games and watching all three daughters march with the Red Hussar Drum & Bugle Corp. Dot enjoyed all sports, especially the Houston Astros. She was a great cook, loved to shop, travel and work crossword puzzles, but more than anything, she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She cherished her family: daughter Kay Thompson Schnitzius and her husband, Tom; daughter Jan Thompson Gardner, daughter Joanie Thompson Yust and her husband, Paul; and son Jim Thompson.

She treasured her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: grandson Brent Schnitzius, his wife Kim and their daughter, Avalon; granddaughter Stacey Schnitzius Nash and her stepchildren, Sophie and Patrick; grandson Brad Gardner; grandson Matt Yust, his wife Macey and their son, John Walker; granddaughter Katie Yust; grandson Adam Yust; grandson James Thompson; granddaughter Mariam Thompson and her son Bradyn and granddaughter Rebecca Thompson.

Following a family celebration of Dot’s life, her ashes will be interred in the Blair Cemetery, Timpson, Texas, alongside her loving parents, Zannie & Clara Crump.

Deniece Stanberry Moore was born April 11, 1962 to Tommy J. Stanberry, Sr. and the late Bobbie Jean Tatum Stanberry in Center, Texas. She passed away on December 31, 2010 at her home surrounded by loved ones.

She is preceded in death by her Mother Mrs. Bobbie Jean Tatum Stanberry: Aunts Ethalia Tatum Casey and Ladonia (Sista Baby) Mosby.

She was a member of the East Liberty Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a Deaconess, Announcing Clerk, Youth Matron, sang in the choir, and a member of the kitchen committee. She loved her church and church family. Deniece served God faithfully until her death.

She worked at Tyson for many years and then on to E L Bruce Hardwood Floors until her health failed her.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories: her husband of 30 years Mr. Arvis (Sneaky) Moore; her father Tommy J. Stansberry Sr. both of Center, Texas; one son Marquis (Monakisha) Moore of Dallas, Texas; three daughters, Jeniece, Constance, and Asjia Moore of Center, Texas; one grandson: Kamdyn J. Zackery; on granddaughter: Jabria Jones; four step grandchildren: Alonzo, Kendrick, Deondrae Conway, and Khan Aught all of Dallas, Texas; three sisters Janell (Raymond) Ridgeway of Tenaha, Texas. Sharon (Kelvin) McCowin and Jennene (Calvin) Smith both of Center, Texas; two brothers: Tommy J. (Mellisa) Stanberry, Jr. of Shelbyville, Texas and Montique (Shamika) Stanberry of Spring, Texas; father and mother in law, Willie and Shirley Ratcliff of Shelbyville, Texas; five uncles; three aunts; three brother in laws; three sister in laws; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.


Patricia Wilson departed this earth on December 14, 2010. She was born to Guy Wilson, Jr. (deceased) & Jerlene Wilson (deceased) on July 1, 1978.

Marjorie Sue (Bryant) Perkins, 79, of Marshall passed away Monday, January 3, 2011 in Center, Texas. She was born May 29, 1931 in Denison, Texas, to William Merle and Jewell Lena Gomer Bryant.

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Friday, January 7, 2011, at The Colonial Chapel of Sullivan Funeral Home in Marshall, with Matt Perkins, Tim Perkins, Bryant Perkins, and Stephen Wiggins officiating. Interment will follow at Colonial Gardens Cemetery in Marshall. Visitation will be 5-8 PM, Thursday, January 6, 2011, at Sullivan Funeral Home.

Mrs. Perkins was very active in the Marshall community. She was on the founding committee for the Marshall Regional Arts Council and served as the President from 1989-1991; other organizations that she volunteered her talents were: President of the “Friends of the Starr Family Home State Historic Site”, and started the annual It’s a Wicket Wicket World of Coquet Tournament fundraiser; member of the Harrison County Historical Commission (Court House Presentation Committee) and the Harrison County Historical Society; member of the Friends of the Marshall Public Library; member of the Marshall Music Club; member of the Marshall Depot; member of the Civic Center Advisory Board; member of the Marshall Symphony Society; member of the Marshall Noon Lions Club; member of the Main Street Board; was active in the Marshall ISD PTA during her son and grandson’s school years and many, many other community organizations. Mrs. Perkins and her husband opened and ran the former Gibson Discount Store that is now part of the Texas State Technical College. She was also a member of Marshall Church of Christ.

She is survived by her son, Tim Perkins and wife Norma of Center, Tx; grandsons, Bryant Perkins of Austin, Tx and Matt Perkins of Center, Tx; brother-in-law, Bill Perkins and wife Gene of Plano, Tx; three nephews; three nieces; and numerous other family members.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, J.R. Perkins; parents, Merle and Lena Bryant; sister, Billie Merle Bryant, and brother, Don C. Bryant.
