Obituaries 2012 November

11/30/2012

J C "Coach" Warren, 67, passed away Thursday, November 29, 2012, in a Lousiana hospital.

He was born on June 17, 1945, in Orange, TX. He grew up in Shelbyville, TX, and attended Shelbyville High where he was an All-State basketball and football player.

He attended McNeese State University and played for the legendary Ralph Ward. He earned several awards there for his outstanding athletic ability.

He was a coach, teacher and assistant principal at Welsh High School. He was "Coach of the Year" numerous times, and his girls' basketball team was State Runner-Up.
He became the youngest principal in the state of Louisiana at Bell City High.

He became a State Farm agent and was named the #1 agent in the company for two consecutive years. He became a State Farm field executive manager, managing agents in Lake Charles, Lafayette and New Orleans. He was a lifetime member of the coveted President's Club and Million Dollar Round Table. He was chosen by his peers to receive the "Bill Sanders Award" for outstanding management skills.

He served as a Jeff Davis Parish School Board member, was a graduate of Leadership of Lafayette, a Hospice of Acadiana volunteer, charter member of Louisiana Open Golf Tournament Board of Directors, member of Boys and Girls Club Board of Directors, Cystic Fibrosis Board, Rotary Club, Greyhound Backers and the Jeff Davis Business Alliance. He was a Big Brothers Big Sisters volunteer and conducted basketball workshops for them. He was a Top 28 Basketball Tournament host, "The Blue Coats." He was inducted into the LHSAA Hall of Fame; one of his proudest accomplishments was being the founder of the Louisiana Little Dribblers program in 1971.

His vision of providing young people with activities to keep them "off the streets" and to provide them with the fundamentals of basketball proved to help many earn college educations by attending universities on basketball scholarships. Many of these players became coaches themselves.

At the time of his death he was owner of Go Minis SWLA and Cowboy Towing of Lake Charles.

J C was "bigger than life." He loved his friends and family more than life itself and always lived by the "Golden Rule." He battled Parkinson's disease so gracefully for 20 years. It ravished his body, but never took away his spirit. There is a writing called "The Dash" which says that all we leave behind is the dash between our birthdate and death date. His "Dash" will leave an impact on all that knew him and will be his "Footprints" on their hearts.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Kathy Gordon Warren, his children, Ron Warren, Rachelle Richard and Renee Warren, and his grandchildren, Kai Lognion, Chloe Warren, Jillian Richard, Jace Warren and Ian Richard. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joyce and Margaret Warren, and his grandson, Derek Hebert.

Pallbearers will be his son, Ron Warren; grandson, Kai Lognion, brothers, George, Mac and Larry Warren; nephew, Michael Warren. Honorary Pallbearers will be Tommy Meyer, Steve Grantham, Joe Comeaux, Ed Green, Kelvin George and Michael Prudhomme.

His service will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 2, 2012, at First Baptist Church in Welsh. Rev. Pat Deshotel will officiate. Visitation will be Saturday from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and resume Sunday from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Hixson Funeral Home of Welsh and from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at the church.
