Virginia Lou Allbritton Jetton, 87, a former Center resident, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 29, 2015 in her Longview, Texas, home, after a long illness.

Services are scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015 at 10:00 a.m., Mangum Funeral Home Chapel in Center with Bro. Carl Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park. A visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015 at Mangum Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Virginia graduated from Stephen F. Austin State Teachers’ College in Nacogdoches, Texas, and for many years taught in the Center public school system, where she enjoyed having a positive impact on her students. Above all, she cherished her family, and was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She set an example of enjoying life while meeting life’s challenges with grace and dignity.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mitchell Dean Jetton, a teacher, coach and owner of an insurance agency in Center, in 2003 and daughter, Julie Virginia Jetton. She was also predeceased by her parents, Grace and Henry Allbritton; two brothers, Harry and George Allbritton; brother-in-law, Ralph Yerby, Sisters-in-law, Marie Rane and Maurine Dean and Brother-in-law, James L. Dean.

Billie Jean Taylor King, 77, of Center, passed away Monday, November 30, 2015, in San Augustine.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 1, 2015, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. Funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 2, 2015, at Watson & Sons Chapel with Bro. Ronnie Wheeler officiating. Interment will follow at Antioch Cemetery in San Augustine.

Ms. King was born October 16, 1938, in San Augustine, to Bill and Verna Taylor. She graduated Pineland High School in 1956 and married high school sweetheart, James “Spud” King, in 1958. After residing in Austin for 45 years, she relocated to Center in 2010. Ms. King was currently a member of Ephesus Baptist Church. She retired from Teacher Retirement System in Austin, after 31 years of state service, and following retirement, she enjoyed travelling.

Carolyn Bolton Denby, 59, passed away Wednesday morning in the Health South Rehab Vitas Hospice Unit in Conroe, Texas. Carolyn was born in Cleveland, Texas to William Alton and Bonnie Sue Womack Bolton. She was a stay at home homemaker and mother. She was a member of AA. She will be dearly missed by all of her family and friends. She was a loving mother, sister, and grandmother.

She is survived by her son Emory Willham Denby of San Antonio, her daughters: Bonnie Denby of Shelbyville, and Amber Denby of Pineland, her brother Larry Bolton of Timpson, her sisters: Sue Ann Wood of Hemphill, Tessie Mae Hightower of Nacogdoches, Emily Bjork of Etoile, and Rosie Hopson of San Augustine, her 5 grandchildren: Tyler, Kyle, Cade, Serenity, and Mackenzie. She is preceded in death by her parents and her granddaughter Kali Ann Leone.

Raymond Joe Crawford, 72, of De Kalb, passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2015, in Texarkana.

Mrs. Bobbye Emken, 89, of Joaquin formerly of Galveston, passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at Green Acres Nursing Home.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 29, 2015 at First Baptist Church in Center with Bro. Carl Smith and Bro. John Bender officiating. Burial will follow at Jackson Cemetery at a later time. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service beginning at 1 o’clock p.m. at First Baptist Church.

She was born November 7, 1926 in Shelby County to John Robert and Bertha (Ellis) Latimer. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Golden Harvest Club in Center for many years. She was very active in our community. She loved fishing, talking on the phone and working in the yard and she won Yard of the Month in Galveston 5 years in a row. She was also a member of American Ex-Prisoners of War and Titus Harris (Bataan) Medical Society.

She is preceded in death by her Parents, John Robert and Bertha Latimer, Husband, Dr. Roy Emken and Brother, Leon Latimer.

Mrs. Edna Joyce Boykins, 47, of Shelbyville passed away Friday, November 13, 2015 in Houston. Services will be Saturday, November 21, 2015 at 11am in the Shelbyville ISD gymnasium in Shelbyville. Visitation will be all day Friday at Community Funeral Home Chapel in Center, Tx. Interment will be at East Liberty Community with Pastor Curtis Archie officiating.

Edna was a long time beloved dispatcher and court clerk for the City of Center. She was sworn in as an Associate Judge of the Municipal Court on April 30, 2012.

Gwan Jacobs, 87 of Tyler, Texas passed away Monday, November 9, 2015. She was born December 2, 1927 in Center to William Elvis and Elberta Vaught Dockens. Funeral Services were held on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at Tyler Memorial Park Cemetery in Tyler with Rev. Darryle Dunks officiating, under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.

Gwan was a member of Central Baptist Church in Tyler for over 30 years before becoming a faithful member of Green Acres Baptist Church for some thirty years. She was born and raised in Center, graduated from Center High School. She helped her husband Bob start the Central Baptist Church in Center. They moved to Tyler in 1950 where she attended Tyler Junior College, studing computer science and worked in accounting until retirement.

In addition to her Parents, Gwan was preceded in death by her Husband Bob Jacobs. They were married 66 years.

She is survived by her loving family including her daughter Beckeye Sheets and husband Roy of Flint, Three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, brothers Waymon and Bill Dockens of Splendora, sister Oleatha Price of La Porte, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.

Honorary pall pallbearers were the Care and Shere Sunday School of Green Acres Baptist Church.

Darrell P. Doggett, 82, of Center, died Thursday, November 12, 2015. He was born on May 7, 1933, in Hurstown, to Lola Belle Lout Doggett and Edgar "Ed" Doggett. Darrell served his country in the United States Air Borne during the Korean War and later retired as a supervisor for Texaco Chemical, formerly Jefferson Chemical, Port Neches.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-seven years, Eddie Doggett; daughter, Joni Doggett Day of Beaumont; grandchildren, Bridget Day Aldridge and her husband, Josh, of Silsbee and Abby Day Riley and her husband, Daniel, of Kountze; great-grandchild, Jemma Aldridge; brothers, Ruben Doggett and his wife, Carolyn, and Spencer Doggett, all of Silsbee; sisters, Willie Jo Doggett Powell of Houston and Janice Doggett Lack of Beaumont; and other family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; and grandmother, Willie Monroe Lout Luman.

A gathering of Mr. Doggett's family and friends will begin at 1:00 p.m., with his funeral service at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, November 15, 2015, at Broussard's, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee. His interment will follow at Hardin Memorial Park, Silsbee.


Chase Todd, 31, of Center, passed away Friday, November 13, 2015 at Good Shepherd Hospital in Longview, Texas as a result of an automobile accident.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 16, 2015 at Mangum Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Don Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Yard Cemetery with Masonic rites given by Sam Samford Lodge No. 149. Visitation will be Sunday, November 15, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Mangum Funeral Home.

He was born July 5, 1984 in Nacogdoches to Ricky and Penny (Shofner) Todd. He worked for Fleur Global for 3 years and was currently employed by Luminant as a master mechanic for the past 10 years. He loved riding four wheelers, hunting and fishing and was a true outdoorsman. He was currently going through the Masonic rites.

He is preceded in death by his Grandparents, Prentice & Bobbie Shofner, Jenell Shofner, Fred L. & Doris Todd, his Aunt, Toni Grace Alford and Cousins, Cody Alford & Jeremy Sims.

Mr. Robert “Bud” Emmett Burns Jr., 95, of Tenaha passed away Friday, November 6, 2015 in Longview. Visitation will be held from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday November 15, 2015 at Watson and Sons Funeral Home, Center, TX. Funeral Services will be held on Monday November 16, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Tenaha Baptist Church with Interment following at Restland Cemetery in Tenaha. Mr. Burns’ parents were Robert Emmett Burns Sr. and Ruby Lee Wooten Burns.

He was a graduate of Tenaha High School. Following graduation he attended Texas A&M University and graduated with a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Class of 1943. Mr. Burns served his country in the United States Navy. He was an avid golfer and Baylor Women’s basketball fan. Mr. Burns was a member of the Tenaha Masonic Lodge #737 and American Legion.

Mr. Burns is survived by daughters Patricia Burns Smith, (Larry) and Karen Burns Meriwether (Tom Snow); grandsons J. Christian Haddock, Scott P. Meriwether, ( Marietta Burke); Martin B. Meriwether, (Rae Ann), and great-grandson Samuel Robert Meriwether; step-daughters Marcy Matties ( Chib Allen) and Elaine Phillips (Bob), and special friends Frank and Diana Wengler and Jean Phelps. Johnnie Eddins of Humble Tx died on November 4, 2015 after a lengthy battle with heart disease. Johnnie and his wife, Ruby were members of the Lake Houston Church of Christ and he formerly attended Watters Road Church of Christ. He loved music and loved to sing. Johnnie owned Johnnie H Eddins Insurance Agency in Pasadena and retired in 2008. He served our country in the Texas National Guard.

Mrs. Era P. (Baker) Porter passed away Friday, November 6, 2015, at her residence near Nacogdoches, Texas, at the age of 94.

Mrs. Porter was born April 7, 1921, in Shelby County, Texas, to parents William Hezekiah Baker and Winnie Lucindy Cox Baker. She had formerly lived in Longview, Texas, for a number of years before moving to Nacogdoches County.

She was a member of Stallings Drive Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred P. Porter, in 1996; her son, David G. Porter, in 2007; along with her parents.

Reecie Robertson Stanley, 79, of the Spann’s Chapel Community, Center, Texas, passed away Monday, November 2, 2015 in Houston.

Graveside Service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 7, 2015 at Spann’s Chapel Cemetery with Bro. Don Noble officiating. Visitation will be Friday, November 6, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Mangum Funeral Home.

She was born October 26, 1936 in the Ramah Community in Tenaha, Texas to Archie Byron and Eula Etta (Joplin) Robertson. She married Bobby Stanley, they were married 48 years until his death in 2009. She was a member of Spann’s Chapel Church where she taught Sunday School. She was a teacher for 39 years where she taught in Angleton, West Columbia, Center and Shelbyville, Texas and retired in 1999. She loved quilting and researching her family and numerous family genealogies and histories. She became a volunteer at the Shelby County Museum in 2000 and she was a member of the Shelby County Historic Commission. She was a faithful supporter of the historical society, museum and genealogy library.

She is preceded in death by her Parents, Archie and Eula Robertson and Husband, Bobby L. Stanley.

Wilda Leona Jones, 94, of Joaquin, passed away Sunday, November 1, 2015, at her residence.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 3, 2015, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. Funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 3, 2015, at Watson & Sons Chapel with Robert Ortigo officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Gardens in Ohio.

Ms. Jones was born February 28, 1921, in Gambier, Ohio, to Jesse Winterringer and Lela Lanmon Winterringer. She loved cooking, quilting, and raising her grandchildren.

Funeral service for Margie Sue (Ramsey) Childs, 87, of Timpson, TX, will be held at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, November 3, 2015, in Taylor Funeral Home Chapel, Timpson, with Rev. W. T. Permenter and Rev. Rick Anderson officiating. Visitation with family and friends will be 5:00 – 7:00 PM, Monday, November 2, 2015 at Taylor Funeral Home. Mrs. Childs passed away October 31, 2015, in Garrison, TX.

Born June 7, 1928, in Pasadena, TX, Margie Sue (Ramsey) Childs was the daughter of the late Sidney Marvin Ramsey and Florence Valeta Hearn Ramsey. Margie graduated from Timpson High School in 1945 and became an Air Force wife when she married G. Terrell Childs on June 28, 1946. She was a devoted military wife. About 63 years ago, she left Timpson by train with two small children in tow. We left New York by ocean liner to meet Dad who was stationed at Skulthorpe Air Force Base in England. Together we moved to Lockbourne, Ohio and moved back to Timpson when Dad retired.

Mom taught Sunday School and enjoyed singing in the church choir. She loved to bake pies and make quilts and give them away. She would take produce from her garden and give to her sisters who weren’t able to garden. Mom loved the Lord and set a good example for her husband, three children, family, and friends.

Margie is survived by husband Terrell Childs; sons, Philip Childs and wife Kathy and Jim Childs and wife Lisa; daughter Sue Childs Pinkston; sisters Avis Stamps and Alma Bridwell; niece Betty Parker; 4 grandchildren: Rob and wife Denise, Stephanie and husband Tim, Elaine and husband Kristian, and Brock; and 3 great-grandchildren: Jessica, Nathan, and Ashley.

In addition to her parents, Margie Sue Childs was preceded in death by brothers Roy and James Ramsey and sisters Grace Pledger, Troy Webb, Mary Lavennie Galbreath, and Emma Milford.
